Oscar Piastri Jokes About Alpine Radio Rant at Austrian GP
The Australian made a comment after having to go off track to avoid Renault-owned Alpine's Argentine driver Franco Colapinto.
'Alpine still managed to find a way to (expletive) me over all these years later, huh?,' he told race engineer Tom Stallard in an exchange not broadcast on television at the time.
Piastri told Reuters at a McLaren fan event in London's Trafalgar Square on Wednesday that his swearing had just been spur of the moment.
'It was just kind of a frustrating coincidence. My qualifying got hampered by an Alpine. I got impeded in the race by both the Alpines. So, it was kind of just a build-up of a few things,' he said. 'And it was more out of frustration.
'I still have a lot of friends at Alpine. A lot of people that I respect a lot.
'It was just kind of an ironic coincidence that the things that hampered me a bit in the weekend were all with Alpine. But, yeah -- more just me trying to express my humour and frustration in the race.'
Piastri joined McLaren after being named by Alpine as their driver for 2023, only for the Australian to very publicly reject the seat with a statement that has become part of Formula One lore.
Then Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer questioned the driver's integrity, and threatened legal action, but McLaren won easily when the matter went to the contract recognition board.
Alpine are now last in the championship, and are still going through turmoil, while McLaren won the constructors' title last year and are runaway favourites again.

SILVERSTONE, United Kingdom: Max Verstappen produced one of the finest and fastest qualifying laps of his career on Saturday to seize pole position for Sunday's British Grand Prix and demonstrate why he is the hottest property in Formula One. The four-time world champion was struggling with a strong wind and cool and damp conditions after choosing a low downforce set-up that trimmed his wings but enabled higher speed on the straights. Before his final run of a tense and closely-fought qualifying hour, Verstappen was two-tenths slower than McLaren's championship leader Oscar Piastri, but the Dutchman powered to a fastest lap of one minute and 24.892 seconds to beat the Australian by 0.103 seconds. "You went motor racing Max!" said his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, his deadpan delivery hiding Red Bull's delight as the team fight to find the performance that will ensure their star driver stays with them next year. The 27-year-old Dutchman, who has declared he wants to stay, has been linked with Mercedes, whose team boss Toto Wolff has confirmed making contact. Unconfirmed Italian media reports this week claimed Verstappen had agreed to the move. Verstappen did his talking on the track, claiming his third pole at Silverstone and the 44th of the career with a virtuoso lap to keep alive faint hopes of defending his drivers' title in the second half of the season. Weather permitting, a third British victory would help him trim his 61-point deficit to Piastri but if it rains, as forecast, Verstappen's set-up might leave him vulnerable to his rivals including Lando Norris, in the second McLaren, who is 15 points behind Piastri in the title race and third on the grid. "The changes helped a lot and the car definitely turned in better," said Verstappen. "On my last lap, it all came together and the balance was much better and we were fast on the straights, but the high-speed corners were more difficult. "We are pushing for more performance. It was tricky out there with the wind as the car is so sensitive to it. We have to wait to see what tomorrow will do and if there's rain around or not. "I'm happy with qualifying. It's a big boost for the team as well and I'm excited to go racing tomorrow. We'll try! We are going to have fun and try to do the best we can." Piastri was less happy. "I was trying to think of how I was going to go faster and I didn't," he said. "The last lap was a little bit messy, but it's been tight all weekend. "I think my first lap was very I left a little bit on the table." "It's tough, especially when you think it's a good lap. You don't want to overdo it and try and go over the limit. There were a couple of corners where maybe I was a bit safe on the way in and tried to make up for it on the way out and it didn't quite work." Norris was third in the second McLaren, a tenth adrift. "It was tough," Norris said. "We are not just fast enough today, but it's all good fun and I am happy with third. Credit to Max, he did a great job. It's going to be fun tomorrow, a good battle." George Russell was next in a Mercedes. The Ferraris of seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc filled the third row. Kimi Antonelli was seventh fastest in the second Mercedes but suffered a three-place penalty. Ollie Bearman was eighth for Haas but collected a 10-place grid penalty.

Pollock, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise this year, was named at blindside flanker for his third Lions match but was a late withdrawal from the Sydney Football Stadium clash. "It was just a bit of an awareness on a calf strain that was tight enough this morning so, knowing what we knew, there was no need to risk him," Farrell told reporters after the unconvincing 21-10 victory. The Lions have lost players for the remainder of the tour in their first two matches in Australia, scrumhalf Tomos Williams suffering a hamstring injury and Elliot Daly breaking his arm. Farrell said his team had come through Saturday's match unscathed. "That's a good positive at this stage," he said. He was less impressed with the error-prone performance of his side and suggested the Waratahs might have watered the pitch before the match to make the conditions tougher. "I mean, that's good tactics from them, isn't it? That the ball's slippy, the breakdown's ferocious enough and the line speed is high octane stuff from them as well," he said. "We kept on trying to overplay at times, certainly around halfway, and putting ourselves back under pressure and keeping them in the game. "And that amount of turnover ball is credit to them, obviously, but not good enough from us." Leclerc leads final British GP practice for Ferrari at Silverstone
FERRARI sent McLaren a reminder of their pace in final practice for the British Grand Prix on Saturday with Charles Leclerc fastest. The Monaco-born driver lapped the Silverstone circuit on an overcast, gusty and much cooler afternoon than Friday with a best time of one minute 25.498 seconds. McLaren's Formula One championship leader Oscar Piastri was second quickest, 0.068 seconds slower, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen third. The session was twice red flagged, once when Oliver Bearman's Haas shed some bodywork and in the final seconds when Gabriel Bortoleto spun on a kerb and bounced across the grass with the car's front left suspension smashed. The final stoppage put paid to anyone trying to improve on Leclerc's time, including Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who ended up only 11th. Hamilton had been quicker than Leclerc in the first two sectors before aborting the final one after the red flags were waved as a result of Bearman's debris on track. McLaren's Lando Norris, 15 points adrift of Piastri after 11 of 24 rounds, was fourth fastest with Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda fifth. Bearman, who ended up sixth, crashed in a bizarre accident at the end while entering the pitlane -- smashing the nose and front wing when he hit the barriers and blaming cold brakes. Alex Albon was seventh for Williams, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar and teammate Liam Lawson completing the top 10. Aston Martin said neither of their drivers had managed to do a representative lap on the fastest soft tyre due to the red flags. Qualifying for Sunday's race, Hamilton's first at home in Ferrari colours, follows later in the afternoon.
