DP World Jebel Ali is a Sapphire 5300 compact gearless container vessel with cutting-edge maritime technologies designed to enhance cargo handling efficiency, reduce operational costs and contribute to a more sustainable maritime industry.
To commemorate the maiden call, DP World and Unifeeder senior management hosted a special reception at Jebel Ali Port, underscoring the port's pivotal role in global supply chains, said
DP World in a statement.
DP World Jebel Ali will be integrated into Unifeeder's Asian Gulf ISC Service (AGI).
The vessel's compact design allows for greater manoeuvrability and access to smaller ports, including inland terminals, opening new opportunities to expand supply chain networks.
The vessel is expected to save approximately 1,700 metric tonnes of bunker fuel annually, leading to 15 to 20 percent reduction in carbon emissions for its intended routes, it stated.
Ganesh Raj, Global Chief Operating Officer of Marine Services, said: "The addition of the DP World Jebel Ali to our fleet strengthens our commitment to providing agile, efficient services that deliver value to our customers."

Syria Signs $800M Tartous Port Deal With Dubai-Based Company
Syria has signed an $800-million agreement with Dubai-based DP World to redevelop the Tartous Port, state media reported on Sunday. The deal was signed in Damascus in the presence of self-appointed Syrian interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa. The agreement grants DP World a 30-year term to operate and upgrade Tartous, one of Syria's most strategic coastal hubs. Syrian officials say the deal is part of a wider push to modernize the country's logistics infrastructure. 'This strategic move will bolster our port operations and logistics services,' an unnamed Syrian official told SANA. Qutaiba Badawi, chairman of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, called the deal 'a new phase of field and maritime work in Syria.' DP World chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said the agreement would position Tartous as a global transport node. 'Syria possesses valuable assets,' he said, adding, 'The port of Tartous will be one of the best in the world, particularly in transport and cargo handling services.' According to Badawi, the contract was the result of months of negotiations and was structured to be 'tight, fair and transparent.' The agreement includes infrastructure and technological upgrades to expand Tartous's cargo capacity and support the recovery of Syria's industrial and commercial sectors. The Tartous contract follows a series of high-value agreements signed in recent months, including a 30-year deal with France's CMA CGM to operate Latakia Port and a $7-billion energy contract with Qatari, Turkish, and US firms to restore the power grid. The US lifted most of its sanctions on Syria last month, citing what it called 'positive actions' by Sharaa's administration. US President Donald Trump has revoked the Foreign Terrorist Organization designation for the Nusra Front, later known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), according to a State Department memo filed on 7 July. In December 2024, HTS – under the leadership of Ahmad al-Sharaa (who went by the name Abu Mohammad al-Julani when he was still an ISIS chief) – successfully ousted former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and took power in Damascus. On June 7, Syria was reinstated to the SWIFT banking system, as Damascus began implementing financial reforms under Central Bank Governor Abdul Qader al-Husriya. The Tartous Port deal comes seven months after HTS declared the ousting of the Assad government following its capture of Damascus and the flight of former president Bashar al-Assad.

Syria signs $800 mn port deal with UAE-based company
Syria signed an $800 million deal with UAE-based company DP World yesterday to develop the port of Tartus, state media reported, as the new authorities continue their efforts to support post-war reconstruction. Following the toppling of longtime Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad in December, the new Islamist authorities have worked to reconnect the country to global companies and kickstart reconstruction after 14 years of civil war. 'In the presence of President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, an agreement was signed between the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and DP World, valued at $800 million, as a strategic step aimed at enhancing port infrastructure and logistics services in Syria,' state-run news agency SANA said. Following the signing of the deal, DP World CEO Sultan Bin Sulayem said Syria's economy had 'significant assets, including the Port of Tartus, which represents an opportunity to transport and export many Syrian industries.' In a statement also shared by state media, he pledged to make Tartus 'one of the best ports in the world.' DP World operates dozens of marine and inland ports and terminals globally, particularly in Asia, Africa, and Europe. The Syrian civil war devastated the country's infrastructure, and the new authorities hope to use the lifting of Western sanctions to attract investments and fuel reconstruction efforts. Qutaiba Badawi, head of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, said the parties were 'not merely signing a technical agreement, but we are laying the foundation for a new phase of field and maritime work in Syria, repositioning ourselves on the regional and international economic map.' In May, Damascus signed a 30-year contract with French shipping giant CMA CGM to develop and run the port of Latakia. That same month, Syria signed a $7 billion energy deal with a consortium of Qatari, Turkish, and US companies as part of efforts to revive its crippled power sector.

DP World unit in deal to develop Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone project
Mahadha Development Company, an Emirati-Omani joint venture majority owned by DP World, today (May 26) signed an agreement with Omani authorities for the development of the first phase of Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone in Al Buraimi Governorate. The Phase 1 will cover 14 sq km, with expansion plans to reach 25 sq km in Phase 2. The zone will benefit from direct connectivity to both Jebel Ali Port in Dubai and Omani ports, enhancing cross-border logistics. Under the agreement, Mahadha will be responsible for developing the infrastructure and facilities, preparing the masterplan and environmental studies, and designing the initial layout. The first phase will target a range of economic activities, including manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, plastics, mining, food processing, and security and safety services - all provided through an integrated one-stop-shop service model. The agreement was signed by Engineer Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz), and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, representing Mahadha Development Company, which will develop the new zone. The deal was inked in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Oman. On the occasion, Bin Sulayem said: "The Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone represents a new chapter in the growing economic relationship between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman. Through close collaboration with Opaz and our Omani partners, this new zone will strengthen our deep trade ties while reflecting our shared ambition for sustainable and diversified economic growth." "At DP World, we are committed to developing a world-class platform that will create new opportunities for growth, strengthen connectivity and bring long-term economic value to both Oman and the UAE," he stated. In his speech, Engineer Al Dheeb said: "The Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone has been designed to support key development goals, including creating jobs, attracting advanced knowledge and modern technologies, and fostering a business-friendly environment that aligns with the sustainable development objectives of Oman Vision 2040." "The zone's strategic location in the Buraimi Governorate - at the crossroads between Oman and the UAE - provides seamless connectivity to both Sohar Port and Jebel Ali Port. This positioning is expected to enhance logistics efficiency, lower costs, and improve market access across Gulf, Asian, and African trade routes," he added. The Al Rawdah project is a strategic initiative that will leverage its geographic location to strengthen supply chains, re-export activity, and logistics connectivity between Oman, the UAE, and international markets. The zone will serve as a key engine of economic diversification aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and Oman Vision 2040. It aims to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), increase industrial output, and create thousands of jobs as the zone scales over the coming decades. In 2024, non-oil trade between the UAE and Oman reached a record AED56 billion - a 9.8% increase from the previous year - highlighting the deepening economic partnership. The Al Rawdah Zone is expected to accelerate this trend by establishing a modern and advanced ecosystem for trade and manufacturing. DP World brings four decades of expertise in developing and operating economic zones, including the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), the first free zone in the Middle East and one of the most successful globally.
