Police to submit Zara Qairina case file to AGC today
'The investigation paper into the case has been completed, and it will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor today, insya-Allah,' he was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini.
According to the report, the AGC is expected to issue a press statement on the matter later today.
On Saturday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that police had concluded their probe, with around 60 witness statements recorded during the course of the investigation.
Zara, a Form One student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar, Sabah, was found critically injured in a drain beneath her school dormitory in the early hours of July 16, after reportedly falling from the third floor.
She died the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
Her body was buried on July 17 without a post-mortem, prompting her mother to seek legal steps to exhume the grave for an autopsy, amid public concern and questions over the cause of death.

Ab Rahaman named Johor police chief, replacing M. Kumar who heads to Bukit Aman CID
JOHOR BARU, Aug 4 — Bukit Aman management (services and personnel) division deputy director Ab Rahaman Arsad has been appointed the new Johor police chief, effective today. The 58-year-old senior officer officially replaces Datuk M. Kumar, who has held the post since January 24, 2024. Kumar is expected to take up his new role as Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director. The handover of duties ceremony took place at the Johor police contingent headquarters and was witnessed by Bukit Aman management department director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid. Ab Rahaman was also promoted to the rank of police commissioner during the ceremony, which included the symbolic passing of the baton of command from Kumar. Originally from Kulai, Johor, Ab Rahaman began his police career in 1989 and has held several senior positions, including head of the management department for both the Negeri Sembilan and Kedah police contingents. Kumar, 56, joined the police force in December 1991 as an Inspector. His previous roles include serving as Johor deputy police chief, Johor CID deputy chief, Johor Baru South deputy district police chief, and Mersing district police chief. At the same event, there was also a handover ceremony for the Johor Police Family Association (Perkep) chairmanship, as Kumar's wife, Datin S.P. Shanthi, passed the role to Ab Rahaman's wife, Salwah Mahdan. The ceremony was witnessed by Perkep management department chair Datin Seri Selmiah Tuan Ibrahim.

KLIA to get advance screening, autogates by year-end to curb illegal entry, says home minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — The government is reportedly set to roll out an advance passenger screening system by the end of the year to help prevent illegal entries at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told the Dewan Rakyat today. According to Free Malaysia Today, he said the system will initially involve 10 of the 56 airlines operating in Malaysia and will allow immigration authorities to access passenger information before their arrival. 'The use of autogates will minimise human interaction as all entry and exit screenings will be fully digital, with no discretion required from officers,' he was quoted as saying. Saifuddin reportedly said the use of digitalised immigration services would reduce opportunities for abuse. A total of 635 autogates will reportedly be installed at 123 entry points nationwide. The first phase will reportedly begin in December at key locations including KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Penang International Airports, as well as the Sultan Iskandar Building and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex in Johor Bahru. Saifuddin reportedly said the autogates will use biometric data such as facial recognition, iris scans and thumbprints to reduce the possibility of system manipulation. The ministry is also testing body-worn cameras on immigration officers at several entry points, including KLIA. A plan to purchase 614 cameras is expected to proceed next month, pending approval. Saifuddin reportedly added that the new measures are part of efforts to address misconduct by enforcement officers. Last year, 26 officers at KLIA were dismissed for their involvement in a syndicate that allowed certain individuals to pass through immigration without proper checks. 'There is no place in the home ministry for officers who lack integrity. We have zero tolerance for such misconduct,' he reportedly said.

Man fined RM1,300 for using slur against Orang Asli MP Ramli

(Bernama pic) TAPAH : A herbal products seller from Seremban has been fined RM1,300 by the magistrates' court, here, after pleading guilty to posting an insulting comment against Cameron Highlands MP Ramli Nor on Facebook. Toraise @ Turesh Kumar Munusamy, 53, pleaded guilty before magistrate Anis Zainab Pawanteh. He admitted using the derogatory term 'sakai' and belittling Ramli's intelligence in a comment posted on May 27 at around 9.30pm. According to the charge, the comment provoked anger and was likely to cause a breach of public peace. Prosecuting officer Herman Kayae handled the prosecution while R Balamurali represented Toraise. Earlier, Balamurali appealed for a lighter sentence, saying that his client is a single father raising two children and earned only RM1,000 to RM1,500 a month from a small business. He also said Toraise had pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and apologised for his actions. Herman, however, asked the court to impose a fair sentence as a deterrent, stressing that the accused's actions could disrupt harmony. Ramli, who is also a Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, became Malaysia's first Orang Asli MP when he was elected to the Cameron Highlands seat in a by-election in 2019. He won with a majority of 3,238 votes. He defended the seat for a second term in the 2022 general election, winning with a greater majority of 4,544 votes. The Orang Asli development department (Jakoa) had issued reminders that Jakun and Sakai, while being indigenous groups, carry a negative connotation.
