GOF seizes over RM5mil worth of smuggled plants in Kelantan
GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said its 9th battalion confiscated the items from a lorry which was stopped during the Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan at 4.15pm last Friday.
"Inspection of the lorry uncovered a landscape plant of the Eugiena species, 1,500 climbing plants and 2,000 Busida plants. The seized items, including the vehicle, are worth about RM5.5mil,' he said in a statement on Sunday (May 11).
He said the 26-year-old male lorry driver was also detained after failing to produce any documents related to the plants, and the case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Plant Quarantine Act 1976.
"The suspect and seized items were handed over to the Kelantan Agriculture Department for further action,' he added.
In a separate case, the GOF Battalion 8, in collaboration with the Kota Baru Municipal Council, foiled the sale of unlicensed electronic cigarettes at a premises on Jalan Raja Perempuan Zainab at 5.15 pm Saturday (May 10).
"A 36-year-old man was found on the premises, and checks uncovered 4,064 units of vape liquids and devices without valid documentation, with the seizure valued at an estimated RM284,000,' he said. - Bernama

GOF seizes protected birds worth RM30,000 in east coast raids
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized protected bird species worth about RM30,000 during wildlife enforcement operations across three east coast states this year. Southeast Brigade GOF commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the seizures were made between January and June under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. "Five people, including a man and a woman from Myanmar, were arrested in connection with the offences," he said. Reviewing the previous year's operations under Op Bersepadu Khazanah (OBK), Nik Ros Azhan said the brigade carried out 12 operations, resulting in nine cases with total seizures valued at RM94,110. He stressed that the GOF remains committed to protecting forest reserves and wildlife habitats, particularly in areas vulnerable to poaching and encroachment. "OBK on the east coast is a joint effort involving the GOF, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), and the Forestry Department.

Kelantan police step up action against illegal gold panning
KOTA BARU: Illegal gold panning in Kelantan is still considered under control, with most activities carried out on a small scale, police said. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said such activities, largely confined to traditional gold panning methods, do not involve any major or organised syndicates. "The situation remains manageable. Most of these activities are minor in nature and limited to small groups," he said. Yusoff added that enforcement efforts would continue under Op Bersepadu Khazanah, with support from other government agencies. "The police, through the General Operations Force (GOF), will continue working with the Forestry Department and the Land and Mines Office to carry out joint operations to curb illegal activities," he said. Op Bersepadu Khazanah, launched in 2019, is a nationwide integrated operation aimed at protecting wildlife and preventing illegal activities in forest reserves, particularly in areas rich in biodiversity and prone to poaching.

GOF seizes RM520,000 worth of e-cigarettes in Kelantan
TUMPAT: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 2,600 units of electronic cigarettes worth about RM520,000 in an operation here on Wednesday. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said a man was also arrested in the 10.30am raid. He said the operation took place at an illegal jetty in Kampung Tengkorak. "The GOF team was conducting a routine operation when they spotted a suspicious four-wheel-drive vehicle parked in the area. "While they were checking the vehicle, a man approached and claimed ownership of it. "Further inspection led to the discovery of 2,600 units of electronic cigarettes, estimated to be worth RM520,000," he said. He said the man, who is a local, was subsequently arrested. He said the confiscated items were handed over to the state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for further action. The case is being investigated under Rules 4(1), 4(2), and 6 of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Cigarette Devices) Order 2022.
