Riveiro throws unintentional shade at Orlando Pirates?
We won't read between the lines too much, but it sounds as though Jose Riveiro feels he's taken a step up with his move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Bafana boss Hugo Broos has again excluded Orlando Pirates duo Tshegofatso Mabasa and Evidence Makgopa from his squad. The pair made a preliminary group of 42 but haven't made the final 23. Instead, Broos has opted for an array of wide attackers and a solitary central striker, Richards Bay man Yanela Mbuthuma. Couldn't South Africa have benefited from having another traditional number 9 in this 23-man group? It begs the question: Does Broos have a vendetta against Mabasa Makgopa? The latter was a key component for Bafana at AFCON 2023, while Mabasa won the PSL Golden Boot in the 2023-2024 season.
Orlando Pirates' best player is returning
Broos explains why he likes Selepe so much

Hamburg earns a well-deserved retirement
Grade 8 rider Gabriella Reisen, from Redhill, knew something was not quite right with her beloved horse Hamburg during the recent South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) qualifiers, but she didn't realise she was sharing one of their last rounds. Gabriella said, at the time, she had a feeling that something was a little off with Hamburg. 'He was acting differently, but I thought he was just being naughty.' Read more: Equestrian star shines at Sanesa Regionals She added that they went on to compete at the Toyota Easter Festival shortly after, placing an impressive second, third, and tenth in classes of over 70 riders, yet beneath the success, Gabriella felt her partner's effort and struggle. 'Looking back, if I had known what I do now, I would never have pushed him so hard in those two events.' She added that Hamburg, a striking 17 hands high South African Warmblood, has been her partner for two and a half years. 'He's not just a horse; he taught me what love, patience, and trust mean.' Gabriella pointed out that he would jump to the moon and back just to see her happy. 'He was my teammate, my teacher, my once-in-a-lifetime horse.' Gabriella explained that their partnership was not always easy, as Hamburg was big, powerful, and a challenge for a young rider of just 12 when they first met. Many doubted that she could handle him, but she trusted her gut. 'Sometimes you have to take those risks because they lead to something better than you ever imagined.' She said, now that he is retired at Phaeton Park, Hamburg enjoys gentle walks, plenty of love, and days that match the effort he gave in the ring. Gabriella says she is keeping her options open, riding friends' horses to stay in the saddle, but not rushing to find a replacement. 'If I am ever lucky enough to find a horse that's even a quarter of what Hamburg was, I do consider myself truly blessed.' For Hamburg, a well-earned rest. For Gabriella, memories that will last a lifetime. 'Thank you, Hamburg. Enjoy your retirement, my sweet boy. You have more than earned it.' WATCH: Kiwi pundits rave about Springboks... except one
The Springboks achieved a very special piece of history last year when they claimed a fourth successive victory over the All Blacks for the first time ever. As the world champions wrapped up the Rugby Championship title and continued to remain ensconced at the top of the world rugby rankings, the Springboks have unequivocally become the 'team to beat' in the global game. Just this past weekend the Springboks started their 2025 season with a resounding victory over the Barbarians, while experimenting with some selections, which included bringing regular centre Andre Esterhuizen on as a flank. Reflecting on where the Springboks currently stand in the world rugby reckoning, former All Blacks stars Justin Marshall, Jeff Wilson and Mils Muliaina all raved about the South African side on their chat show called 'Broken Voice'. The trio hailed the Springboks for their innovation, strength in depth and just how they have become the team that everyone is chasing. However, their views weren't echoed by fellow pundit and former New Zealand player, John Kirwan, who has become well known in South Africa for his ever-regular criticism of the Springboks. In the video clip, shared and edited by Rugga Chat below, there have been some comical additions which certainly add a lighter touch to the views shared.
