People wanting to tempt their tastebuds over the long weekend can head to RIM Park for Waterloo Rib & Beer Fest. Aside from meaty morsels, event goers can also catch some live music and enjoy the kids' zone.
Ontario Pirate Festival
When: Saturday, Aug. 2 – Monday, Aug. 4 (11 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily)
Where: Marden Park (7368, Wellington County Road 30, Guelph)
Hoist the Jolly Roger, grab your treasure map and prepare for a rollicking good time as the Ontario Pirate Festival returns to Guelph. Swashbucklers and landlubbers alike can wander through the pirate village of Dry Bluffs, perusing merchants and craftspeople, watching live performances and immersing themselves in the pirate's life.
Sunflower Fest
When: Aug. 2, 3, 4 and 7, 8, 9, 10
Where: Brantwood Farms (251 Powerline Road, Brantford)
Summer is in full bloom at Brantwood Farms as Sunflower Fest kicks off over the long weekend. Guests are invited to enjoy the beauty of the golden fields, take a wagon ride, pick sunflowers and, of course, grab a few photos.
Tree for Three at Mill Race Park
When: Sunday, Aug. 3 (7 p.m. – 8 p.m.)
Where: Mill Race Park (36 Water Street North, Cambridge)
Music lovers are invited to enjoy an evening of free music in Mill Race Park as Tee For Three brings their traditional folk music to Cambridge. Event goers should bring a lawn chair or a blanket so they can sit back and enjoy the tunes from England, Fance and beyond.

Here's what's open and closed this Civic Holiday in London
Social Sharing It's the Civic Holiday on Monday, Aug. 4. Here's a look at what's open and closed this long weekend in London. Recreation There's a whole list of free program offerings at London community centres from sports, science and arts and crafts. Public outdoor swimming pools are open across the city, along with recreational swimming at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Neighbourhood splash pads will also be running. Go for a train ride or bounce on a leaping lily pad at Storybook Gardens in Springbank Park from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. London Children's Museum is open and is featuring an open studio in their Discovery Lab. Ready for some adventure? East Park and Boler Mountain are both open on Monday. City-run golf courses will be open. London Public Library's Central Branch will be closed for the holiday. Library branch locations are open Tuesday to Saturday. Shopping, Drinks and Food RibFest is happening at Victoria Park, serving up food, fun and line dancing. White Oaks Mall, CF Masonville Mall and Westmount Shopping Centre will be open with reduced hours for the holiday. Covent Garden Market will be closed. Some liquor, beer and grocery stores may be closed or have reduced hours. Check hours with your local store. Labatt Brewery's Store will be open. Transit Banks and Government Services Banks will be closed for the Civic Holiday. All Canada Post offices will be closed Monday, Aug. 4. There will be no City of London garbage collection on Monday, Aug. 5. Waste pickup is rescheduled for Tuesday.

Essa National Draft Horse Show takes over Essa Agriplex
The 2025 Essa National Draft Horse Show (ENDHS) showcases heavy horses,, competitions, and vendors at the Essa Agriplex. The event has happened for the last 13 years in Thornton and is an integral part of showcasing draft horse breeds. John Northcote is the chairman of the ENDHS and said the event brings people from all around the region. 'it's not just showing,' said Northcote. 'They are breeding and they're all home bred, they get sold on to other people.' A six-horse hitch was also showcased and for the first time in the shows history there was an eight-horse hitch on display. 'There's maybe one fair, two fairs in Ontario that's ever had one and you won't even see it at the Royal,' said Northcote. 'It is special and if you would ask the drivers what it's like to handle it, it's not just like six in an extra line. It's like six and an extra six.' The ENDHS will continue Sunday August 3, and will feature Belgium, Clydesdale/Shire, and Percheron stallion and gelding halter classes before hitch classes begin at 1:00 p.m. For more information you can go to their website.
