Royal Welsh Show 2025 main ring attractions announced
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has announced the list of main ring attractions for the 2025 Royal Welsh Show, which will be held from July 21 to 24 at the showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
The headline act for this year's event is the return of the Ukrainian Cossacks.
The Cossacks are known for their daring displays of horsemanship.
They will present a 10-minute showcase of traditional Cossack riding in the main ring.
The Ukrainian Cossack stunt team, led by founder Oleh Yurchyshyn, has performed at more than 20 prestigious events across Europe and the Middle East.
They will perform stunts including flipping beneath galloping horses, forming six-person human pyramids on horseback, and executing somersaults mid-charge.
The team rides Ukrainian Warmblood horses, a breed known for its endurance and bravery.
Many of the riders maintain the traditional 'oseledets' hairstyle, a topknot on a shaved head that symbolises their cultural heritage.
Aled Rhys Jones, chief executive of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, said: "The 2025 Royal Welsh Show continues our tradition of bringing world-class entertainment alongside the very best of Welsh agriculture.
"The Ukrainian Cossacks represent exactly the kind of spectacular, culturally rich performance our visitors have come to expect from the main ring.
"Their appearance this year carries extra significance as a celebration of courage and resilience."
The show will also feature the UK's number one motorcycle display team, Bolddog FMX, who will perform stunts and aerial acrobatics.
Meirion Owen and his sheepdogs will demonstrate traditional sheepdog work, while the Regimental Band & Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh will showcase Welsh musical heritage.
The RAF College Band will perform on Tuesday, and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team will descend into the main ring on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
The British Army Drone Sports Association will demonstrate military drone operations on Monday and Wednesday.
The show will also feature a heavy horse village, celebrating traditional working horses.
Visitors can also look forward to a variety of other main ring entertainment throughout the show, including the Inter Hunt Team Relay, Parade of Hounds, and Mounted Games.
Tickets for the event are available online at www.rwas.wales or by calling 01982 553683.

Today's rugby news as Wales star comes 'full circle' and Jac Morgan gets new high-profile admirer
Today's rugby news as Wales star comes 'full circle' and Jac Morgan gets new high-profile admirer These are your rugby morning headlines for Sunday, July 13. Jac Morgan of the Lions thanks his fans after the tour match (Image:) Here are your rugby morning headlines for Sunday, July 13. Wales debutant hails 'full circle' moment New Wales debutant Keelan Giles says it was a long time coming, as he came 'full circle' - making his debut against Japan nine years after being denied a first cap against the same opposition. The Ospreys wing had been named on the bench against the Brave Blossoms as an 18-year-old back in 2016, but didn't get on in Cardiff that day. Since then, injuries have kept him from getting his hands on a Wales cap - but after a lengthy wait, he finally achieved it after getting on for the second half of Wales' 31-22 win over Japan in Kobe. That victory was made even sweeter for Giles given it ended an 18-Test losing run for Wales. "It's a massive day, a special day for me and my family," he said afterwards. "They made the trip over, which made it extra special. Article continues below "It's unbelievable. It's been a long time coming. "It's almost like a full-circle moment, playing against Japan and being on the bench nine years ago against Japan and not getting on. So it's extra special and a special feeling." Wales captain Dewi Lake spoke after the victory at Noevir Stadium about how this long-awaited victory should be a springboard to better things. "It's huge," said the hooker. "As Jockey spoke about, everyone's worked hard over the last four games but especially over the last five weeks. "So the confidence this will hopefully breed within this group will be huge for us moving forward. Just a massive thank you to the coaches, Jockey, that have built that confidence over the last five weeks and allowed us to express ourselves on the field. "That's been a massive help." Former All Black coach praises Jac Morgan Wales openside Jac Morgan has gained another high-profile admirer as he bids to win a place in Andy Farrell's British and Irish Lions Test team - with former All Blacks coach Ian Foster singing the 25-year-old's praises. Morgan played the full 80 minutes on Saturday against the AUNZ Invitational side in Adelaide - perhaps suggesting that he's not in line to start next week against the Wallabies in Brisbane. Competition for the seven jersey is fierce, with Tom Curry and Josh van der Flier both in the mix. But Foster, who was part of the AUNZ Invitational side's coaching team, picked out the Welshman as the Lion he was most impressed by on Saturday. "You can't help but be impressed with Morgan at the moment," he said. "He's going good as a loosie (loose forward). "There'll be a lot of consideration about that loose forward trio, but they're mobile, they're skilful and he is a tough player. "Look, he just works hard. You could see that we were a bit short in some of our connections at the breakdown on early phases a couple of times and he made a bit of a meal of that. He's good in that space, but he had great support too." Farrell muted on Farrell Jr The 48-0 win over the AUNZ Invitational side also saw Owen Farrell make his first appearance for the Lions on this tour after being a late call-up to replace the injured Elliot Daly. The decision by Andy Farrell to call up his son, despite an injury-hit season in France, has not gone down well with everyone. But the former England captain showed his worth off the bench, with a strong cameo that might just have moved him into the matchday squad for the Tests. However, afterwards, Farrell Sr played down his son's performance. "He did OK, he did OK, as did many others," he said. "There were some great individual performances, wasn't there? But I suppose those individual performances gelled together as a collective." Ford proud of the boys By PA Sport Staff England captain George Ford said he was 'proud of the boys' after a last-gasp 22-17 victory over Argentina in San Juan sealed a 2-0 Test series win. Replacement scrum-half Jack van Poortvliet went over in the final minute with the score locked at 17-17 following Guy Pepper's brilliant blind-side break as England followed up last week's 35-12 win in La Plata in style. Ford, who made his 101st Test appearance for England, said: 'We found a way in the end. We had a lot of opportunities in the 22, but couldn't get over the line. 'I'm proud of the boys. I like our fight, our togetherness, showing how much we care. 'There was some great stuff, we should have scored more tries but the attitude of the group is great.' Both sides scored two tries in the first half, with Argentina twice hitting back through centre Lucio Cinti and wing Ignacio Mendy after touchdowns from England pair Seb Atkinson and Freddie Steward. In a fast and furious encounter at the Bicentenary Stadium, Santiago Carreras' first-half penalty had edged Argentina into a 17-14 interval lead, with George Ford's penalty in the second period hauling England level before Van Poortvliet's thrilling late effort. Argentina captain Julian Montoya said his side paid the price for their ill-discipline. He said: 'We were not good enough, we have to be honest with ourselves. I am sorry we couldn't get the win, we gave away too many penalties.' England forward Ben Curry was sent to the sin-bin for his high tackle on Pablo Matera in the 20th minute and Argentina made their advantage count as Cinti went over for their opening try. Argentina were reduced to 14 men in the second half when number eight Matera received a yellow card just before the hour for killing the ball at a maul just yards from his try line. Article continues below Two tiring teams maintained their ferocious battle – almost entirely in Argentina's half – as the game headed into the final 10 minutes. But with the clock ticking down, replacement flanker Pepper stole clear from a maul and after charging down the blind side he turned inside to send the supporting Van Poortvliet over for the decisive score.

'Where have all the Welsh flags gone' - Eisteddfod mystery leaves veteran baffled
A veteran eisteddfodau supporter has been left mystified by the apparent dearth of Welsh flags at recent National and Urdd festivals. Thomas Victor Jones claimed to have first noticed their absence when he served as a steward at the 2023 Llŷn and Eifionydd national festival in Boduan, near Pwllheli. After searching the Maes and failing to find any Wales flags, he said questions to senior Eisteddfod officials hit a brick wall. 'One told me that putting up flags was a health and safety risk - I wasn't sure if she was joking,' he said. The National Eisteddfod of Wales is Europe's largest music and poetry festival, with more than 6,000 participants competing in Welsh. Considered the ultimate celebration of Welsh culture, Mr Jones found it unfathomable that the Ddraig Goch flag would be excluded. At last year's National Eisteddfod in Pontypridd, he again made a point of searching the grounds for Wales flags. He found one - at the cricket club. Some private caravans had them - but they were nowhere to be found in official and performance areas, he claimed. He undertook similar searches at this year's Urdd Eisteddfod near Port Talbot – and again he said he couldn't find any Welsh flags. It left him wondering if there was a deliberate policy preventing their use. Organisers of both events have refuted the claims, saying Welsh flags are flown proudly where health and safety allows it. But Mr Jones, a community councillor in Llanbedrog, Gwynedd, is adamant. 'I found just one flag at the three events,' he said 'When the Wales womens football team competed this week, I spotted at least 20 and there were probably a lot more." Mr Jones continued: 'For a month before the Bodior event, poles and fences across the Llŷn Peninsula were plastered with Welsh flags and eisteddfod posters. But as soon as you went through the entrance onto the Maes, there were no Welsh flags to be seen 'There are always plenty of other flags, and I've nothing against those, they add a lot of colour. But there are no Welsh flags. I just don't understand it, it's left me very unsettled. I've even met people from New Zealand asking me, 'what's going on?' 'I don't know if it's official policy or there's some other reason. There's definitely something going on – I don't know if it's some kind of censorship.' Like many Welshman, flying the flag is a matter of pride for Mr Jones. Not only does he have the Ddraig Goch on a flagpole on his garden at home, he carries the flag on his haversack when he's travelling. He worries the National Eisteddfod is sending out the wrong message, especially given the Welsh Government's Cymraeg 2050 strategy. This aims to increase the number of Welsh speakers to one million by 2050, effectively doubling the proportion of the population that speaks Welsh daily. 'I've travelled a lot and in every country I've visited, you always see the national flags flying proudly,' said the 80-year-old, former manager of a centre for people with learning difficulties. 'You go to England and you expect to see Union Jacks and flags of St George there – so why not at the Eisteddfod?' Having approached the organisers of this year's National Eisteddfod in Wrexham, he's been assured there will be plenty of Welsh flags on display. 'We'll see,' he said. 'I'll be there checking.' A spokesperson for the organisation said: 'We are unable to erect a flagpole on the top of our Pavilion as doing that would be a health and safety risk. We will have Welsh flags on the Maes this year in Wrecsam. 'We celebrate the fact that we're a festival celebrating our language and culture throughout the whole year, and are actively working with the Welsh Government to reach the Cymraeg 2050 target.' Urdd Gobaith Cymru also confirmed it has no policing prohibiting the display of Y Ddraig Goch at Eisteddfod yr Urdd. However it said practical or health and safety considerations can influence how and where flags are displayed in some areas of the Maes – for example, in performance areas or near temporary structures. The Urdd said the organisation fully recognises the importance of the flag as an expression of Welsh identity. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox The spokesperson added: 'We recognise its significance as a national symbol and can confirm that Y Ddraig Goch and Llywelyn ap Gruffudd banners were proudly on display at Eisteddfod yr Urdd Dur a Môr 2025.' This year's National Eisteddfod take places from August 2–9 in Isycoed, on the outskirts of Wrexham near the industrial estate.
