Police search for bogus roofer who conned homeowners
Police are searching for a "heartless" fraudster who skipped his sentencing hearing after conning homeowners by convincing them to part with thousands of pounds for unnecessary renovations.Steven Lee had previous convictions and had been released from jail under licence but continued to swindle eight victims across north-west England, with three in Stockport, Greater Manchester.The 39-year-old, of Preston, Lancashire, pleaded guilty to eight fraud offences including one relating to a loss of £118,000 before a trial was due to start at Preston Crown Court.Lee then failed to attending a further hearing earlier this month when he was sentenced in his absence to 10 years in prison.
A warrant has since been issued for his arrest following the investigation by Lancashire Police and trading standards departments in Stockport and Halton, Cheshire.
Lee had traded under the names Drysky Property Services and Dedicated Roofing Solutions, with victims – many of whom were vulnerable - targeted for unnecessary, substandard or incomplete property work, the court heard.
Police also discovered his cousin Eli Young, who was living with him in Rosemary Lane, Bartle, was also involved in defrauding three of the victims.The 41-year-old was also sentenced to four years' imprisonment.During sentencing, Judge Unsworth described the offending as "deliberate, planned and heartless."Councillor Dan Oliver, cabinet member for public protection at Stockport Council, said: "These types of crimes have a detrimental impact on the victims long after they are committed and I hope they gain some small comfort from the sentencing."

A SUSPECTED German fraudster who faked her own death and was given away by her giant pet poodle will face court on Monday. Inna Z, 51, was arrested by police in Majorca after her company doubted the claim she had been killed in a car accident and tracked her down with detectives. 3 Her giant poodle was noticed walking the streets and led investigators back to the exec. The tax adviser was accused of defrauding around £900,000 from the German solar power firm she worked for. She was summoned to court in November 2020, but her sister reported she had been killed in a car crash of March that year. A death certificate was provided, but her company in Rostock, north Germany, smelt a rat and hired private detectives to investigate. They discovered that her social media was still active, meaning Inna was either still alive or being impersonated. They also found out she owned a giant poodle. The pooch became the object of their search, and was spotted out for a walk in Santa Ponca, Majorca. Large poodles are not a common sight on the island, so the canine stuck out. It led the team to a swanky villa in the town - and the supposedly dead Inna. Inna admitted to staging her demise after false documents were found in the house. Appearing in court soon after her arrest, she said: "It was clear they were going to catch me, but I wanted some time." The prosecutor's office has estimated the total amount she defrauded sits at around £5million. This week she reached a plea deal where she will avoid jail if she repays £1.5million. Her sister Anna, who wrote the email to the court, will also avoid jail. It comes as a British dad died this week on the island when he fell off a wall onto rocks. Ben Clark, 41, died instantly when he plunged 15ft in the early hours of Friday morning. His daughter, Kaci Fraya, is believed to have been on the Spanish holiday to Cala Agulla on the island's northeast coast with her dad at the time of his death. 3

Paul Ince arrested and charged with drink driving after car crash
Paul Ince, the former England captain, has been charged with drink driving after a collision involving a Range Rover on Saturday. The former Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan midfielder was held by police after the vehicle hit a central reservation in Neston, Cheshire. Officers have since confirmed he will appear in court next month to face a charge of drink driving. Cheshire Police said it was called to reports of a collision at 5pm on Saturday. 'The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier,' the force said in a statement. 'Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man. Paul Ince, of Neston, has since been charged with drink driving. Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday 18 July.' As reported by The Daily Mail, the incident took place close to Heswall Golf Club where Ince has previously posted content on Instagram. Ince was England's first black men's captain and won 53 caps for his country, starring at Euro 96 and the World Cup in France in 1998.. Having won a European Cup Winners' Cup, two Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and a League Cup while playing, he has since embarked on a career in management. His most recent head coaching role was at Reading, where he left in 2023. He had previously been at Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn Rovers, Notts County and Blackpool.

FORMER Man United and England star Paul Ince has been charged with drink driving after crashing into a central reservation. The 57-year-old was arrested after a black Range Rover crashed in Cheshire on Saturday, close to Heswall Golf Club. 2 He was later charged with drink driving and was bailed. Ince will appear before Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday. A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told The Mail: "At around 5pm on Saturday 28 June, police were called following reports of a collision on Chester High Road, Neston. "The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier. "Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man. "Paul Ince, of Neston, has since been charged with drink driving. "Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday 18 July."
