State government can't come to troubled club's aid
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohammad explained that the government cannot provide financial assistance due to the soaring operational costs, a dilemma that many state teams across the nation are currently grappling with.
'Football in Malaysia has become increasingly burdensome financially, making it unsustainable for the state government to support,' he said.
Saarani noted that this situation is precisely why a transition to private sector sponsorship was agreed upon for the club.
He drew a comparison with England, stating: 'In England, while ticket prices may be high, stadiums are filled to capacity. In contrast, ticket prices in Malaysia are low with fewer attendees, yet player salaries remain elevated. This creates a financial strain that both clubs and state governments cannot bear.'
Saarani emphasised that the financial constraints are not unique to Perak, urging fans to understand that other states are also unable to resolve the fiscal challenges their clubs endure.
'The Perak state government cannot help settle the salary arrears for Perak players - that responsibility rests with the sponsor,' he concluded.
However, he assured that the state government remains committed to fostering football development through the Perak Football Association (Pafa), who are tasked with scouting talent across school and district competitions.
'The cost of football development is manageable, and the state has allocated approximately RM1mil to support these initiatives. We are providing the association with essential funding,' he said.
In a startling announcement on Saturday, Perak confirmed that they would not participate in next year's Super League.
Club chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi disclosed that the club are officially up for sale, inviting any interested conglomerates or businesses to come forward.
Perak, established in 1921, has a storied history, competing in every league format to date and boasting eight Malaysia Cup titles.
The future of this historic club now hangs in the balance as they seek new ownership and financial stability.

Perak completes first phase of traditional village chief appointments
IPOH: The Perak government has finalised the appointment of 658 out of 828 traditional village chiefs in the first phase, with the remaining 170 set to receive their letters soon. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad stated that the second phase will proceed after reviewing grassroots feedback and addressing on-ground changes. Saarani highlighted past concerns, including village chiefs not residing in their assigned communities, as well as age and health factors. 'These criteria ensure effective leadership. Village chiefs can serve only until age 65 and will not be reappointed beyond that. 'Health is also a priority—if a chief faces serious medical issues, replacements will be made in phase two,' he said during a press conference after launching the Perak Orang Asli Community Symposium 2025. The selection process involved consultations under the Unity Government Committee, incorporating new candidates, reappointments, and increased representation for women and youth. Separately, Saarani reaffirmed the state's commitment to Orang Asli welfare, citing initiatives like the Kelah Sanctuary Project in Royal Belum, which boosts tourism and local economies. Other efforts include solar system installations in Kampung Sungai Kejar and plans for an Orang Asli Cultural Village in Pos Raya.

MFL reviews VAR system for M-League 2025/26 after debut season issues
THE Malaysian Football League (MFL) has confirmed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will undergo refinements ahead of the 2025/2026 M-League season. This follows multiple contentious incidents during its inaugural implementation last season. Acting MFL CEO Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd revealed that two special briefings were held with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and FIFA to address system enhancements. 'The improvements are not yet finalised, but we recognise the concerns from last season, which was VAR's first year in Malaysia,' he said. FAM Referees Committee chairman Datuk S. However, errors such as the suspension of referee Razlan Joffri Ali after a Super League match between Perak and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) drew criticism. Despite setbacks, Razlan earned praise for his handling of the 2024-2025 Malaysia Cup final, where JDT defeated Sri Pahang 2-1. Mohd Shazli added that the MFL is working to avoid scheduling delays seen last season. The full M-League 2025/26 fixture will be released after finalising key events like the Shopee Cup draw and Asian Champions League (ACL) commitments.
