It went all the way to a nail-biting tie-break and Littler said: 'It just didn't go to plan. I bust the 127 then I missed my doubles.
'I was always three or four legs behind. But after the second break I say to myself 'I'm on the stage until the end, just work hard'.

BLACKPOOL will be the home of darts for the next week as the World Matchplay returns!
There has already been huge drama in round one of the tournament with SIX of the 16 seeded players out.
A new champions is now also guaranteed after Luke Humphries crashed out in his tournament opener against Gian van Veen.
There will be darts action every night this week ahead of the big final on Sunday!

Littler made an awful start, averaging just 80 early on as he lost the opening FOUR legs. In contrast

Littler then halved the deficit with double four but Wattimena then extended his lead to 7-2 to leave the teen sensation on the ropes. At this point Littler had missed TEN efforts on doubles.

The Nuke then hit a vital double 16 to narrow the gap before the second break. He gestured to the fans: 'I'm still here'.
A clinical 107, 70, tops and double 10 followed for Littler to make it 8-7 and he let out a huge scream.

But Wattimena wasn't finished and he showed great spirit to stay with Littler to make it 9-9.
The Nuke then missed one match dart before going to a tie-break. He then blew three more chances to win it but finally wrapped it up with double 10.

Gerwyn Price romped into the quarters with a stunning 11-3 win over Chris Dobey.
It was all one-way traffic and no dramas for the Welshman after his stage aggro with Daryl Gurney earlier in the week.

Price said: 'I think I'm played well in the middle part of the game.

'The crowd were behind me which I didn't expect today after Monday.
'It was fantastic, the middle part of the game I felt I couldn't miss. I put Chris under a lot of pressure. I think he played decent in patches.
'I want to let my emotions go sometimes. It was a tough game.'

James Wade sees off Gian van Veen to secure quarter-final berth at World Matchplay
James Wade rolled back the years to move within two wins of emulating his 2007 World Matchplay triumph in Blackpool. Wade thrilled the Winter Gardens crowd with a 16-13 quarter-final victory over Gian van Veen after early double trouble had left him 4-1 adrift. After winning eight consecutive legs to lead 9-4, the 42-year-old Englishman had to withstand a Van Veen fightback before crossing the finishing line. "I thought I'd thrown it away," Wade told Sky Sports after reaching his 10th Matchplay semi-final. "He was quite weak early on in the game, I just thought I'd pummel him now and I couldn't do it. "Towards the end he was coming back and it was God's gift to me (winning), not my ability. That is for sure. "I was disgusted (with the start) but he didn't make the most of his opportunities. I'm just so happy now, I'm buzzing. "I was so nervous, it was awful. I was tight and anxious and I don't need to be because I can play darts." There was a 19-year age gap between the pair, with Wade having made his made his television debut at the 2003 BDO World Championship eight months after Van Veen was born. But it was the experienced Wade who began nervously in missing his first 11 darts at a double - the same number as his total of missed doubles in 28 legs in beating Joe Cullen and Wessel Nijman - and Van Veen capitalised in the opening mini-session. The Machine looked bemused at his malfunctioning on the big stage, but the first break did him a power of good. Wade rattled off the next eight legs with his heavy scoring putting the 2024 world youth champion under enormous pressure. Van Veen recovered from that assault to trade legs, but breaking rather than holding was what was required from his perspective and Wade kept him at bay. The Dutchman finally broke to get within two legs at 13-11 and had two darts at double 16 to move to within one. But Van Veen slipped wide of the wire and Wade held on for another marvellous Blackpool memory 18 years on from capturing the title.

He achieved all of that without making a major first-team signing for 18 months while selling several members of his squad amid the battle to meet PSR rules. But it feels like all that excitement is quickly evaporating as the feelings of frustration mount. 'We're seeking players that are good enough, that are desperate to come, and that can make the difference that they're in short supply for us. 'We're confident that we can try and get some more players in to strengthen the depth of the squad. We're certainly aware that we need to and we're trying as hard as we can to do that.'
