Austria to stay on Formula 1 calendar through 2041 after contract extension

Associated Press13 hours ago

SPIELBERG, Austria (AP) — The Austrian Grand Prix is set to stay on the Formula 1 schedule until 2041 after a long-term extension was announced Sunday for the race at the Red Bull Ring.
Austria already had a contract through 2030, agreed two years ago, and the new extension sees it match the Miami Grand Prix as the only F1 events contracted into the 2040s.
The Austrian Grand Prix is closely connected with Red Bull's presence in F1.
The Red Bull company's co-founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, who died in 2022, funded the renovations that allowed it to return to the calendar in 2014 after an 11-year absence, and rebranded it as the Red Bull Ring.
'I am delighted that Formula 1 will remain at the Red Bull Ring for many years to come,' his son Mark Mateschitz said in a statement Sunday.
'I am proud to continue my father's legacy and to preserve the rich history of motor racing in (the region of) Styria and at the Red Bull Ring – with and, above all, for the people of the region. Austria's close ties to Formula 1 are an excellent foundation for our long-term partnership. Working together, we intend to continue this success story for many years to come.'
It continues a trend by F1 of planning for decades to come with unusually long deals for certain circuits.
The Canadian Grand Prix was extended to 2035 earlier this month, while Miami got its extension through 2041 last month.
Other Grands Prix with more than a decade to run on their contracts are Bahrain, which agreed a deal in 2022 that is valid through 2036, and the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne has an agreement through 2037.

The 3️⃣ key players in the Flamengo v Bayern Munich clash

Bayern Munich showed its title contender credentials at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and eliminated Flamengo in a thrilling round of 16 matchup. Sign up for DAZN to watch ALL FIFA Club World Cup matches for FREE Advertisement The team led by Vincent Kompany quickly gained the upper hand and was able to manage their efforts in the match, controlling it even when it seemed that Flamengo, with plenty of talent, could complicate things. They struck at the right moments and deservedly won. These were the 3️⃣ protagonists of the duel between Flamengo and Bayern Munich. Erick Pulgar The Chilean midfielder was a protagonist, but for all the wrong reasons. He headed a corner kick into his own goalpost, and later didn't play well, having the bad luck of deflecting Leon Goretzka's shot that became Bayern's third goal. He also kicked Harry Kane, injuring his own foot in the process. He was substituted before halftime. Manuel Neuer The German goalkeeper once again made key saves and played with enormous security at the back of the team, playing as a sweeper when the play required it. Harry Kane In the first half, Harry Kane scored with his left foot, his 'bad' foot, from outside the box, and a slight deflection put the shot on target. It was the English striker's 40th goal of the 2024/25 season. Advertisement Later, in the second half, when Flamengo was pushing, he received the ball near the opponent's goal, where he rarely fails. This time he scored with his right foot, and it was his 41st goal. A brace and a standout performance. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Chivu Confirms France Star Fit For Inter Milan Vs Fluminense Club World Cup Clash

Cristian Chivu has confirmed that striker Marcus Thuram will be fit for Inter Milan's Club World Cup match against Fluminense. The Nerazzurri coach updated on the Frenchman's condition in a press conference ahead of tomorrow's match, as reported by FCInterNews. Advertisement Tomorrow's match will determine which team advances to the quarterfinal. There, they will face the winner of tomorrow's other round of sixteen match between Manchester City and Al-Hilal. Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu had reportedly planned to start Francesco Pio Esposito in attack once again. This after the 20-year-old's star turn against River Plate last week. However, there are reportedly doubts about Pio Esposito's fitness. Reportedly, the 20-year-old has avoided major injury, but he is still not back in training. Therefore, it will most likely fall to Marcus Thuram to start in attack for Inter. Meanwhile, Chivu also gave his thoughts on the possibility of a delay to tomorrow's match due to thunderstorms. That is what happened with yesterday's clash between Benfica and Chelsea. 'I hope that tomorrow, since there's an alert, they'll make a decision before the match,' said the Inter coach. 'If you go to the stadium and they tell you that you have to wait two hours, it becomes hard to prepare for the match,' he explained. Chivu noted that 'there are a lot of details' that the team deal with before the match. Advertisement 'How you eat. When you drink. We're professional athletes, and to express our best for 120 minutes we have to be prepared from all points of view.' 'I hope that tomorrow morning, if there's an alert, a decision will be made beforehand,' Chivu said. 'So that it doesn't affect the quality of the match or the preparation of the players.'
