Ireland name 37-player preparation squad for World Cup
A group of 21 forwards and 16 backs includes the uncapped duo Alma Atagamen and Ivana Kiripati.
Meanwhile, Jane Clohessy and Aoife Corey have retained their places after impressing on their debuts in the Six Nations.
Sarah Delaney, Shannon Ikahihifo, Sam Monaghan, Eimear Corri, and Beibhinn Parsons return after missing the WXV1 and Six Nations campaigns through injury.
The backroom team has also been confirmed. Joining head coach Scott Bemand are Denis Fogarty (Scrum Coach), Alex Codling (Forwards Coach), Gareth Steenson (Kicking Coach) and James Scaysbrook, who comes onboard as Defence Coach.
Ex-Bath and Exeter Chiefs flanker Scaysbrook previously had stints with England U20s and Coventry RFC, in addition to spending time coaching in Hong Kong and Japan.

The squad will assemble on 2 June at the IRFU High Performance Centre ahead of warm-up matches against Scotland and Canada in early August.
The 16-team World Cup takes place between 22 August and 27 September.
Ireland have been paired in Pool C, along with Japan (24 August), Spain (31 August) and New Zealand (7 September).

Porecki makes surprise call to retire after breaking back into Wallabies
Australia hooker Dave Porecki has retired from professional rugby only weeks after reviving his test career. The New South Wales Waratah battled injuries in recent seasons but made his first Australia appearance under coach Joe Schmidt against Fiji last month after nearly two years out of the Wallabies. After suffering a concussion against Fiji and missing the first British & Irish Lions test in Brisbane, Porecki was recalled for the second clash in Melbourne before being sidelined for the third and final test in Sydney due to a cut heel at training. Capped 21 times for the Wallabies, Porecki said it was the right time to start a new chapter in his life. "Rugby has given me so much to be thankful for and has been such a massive part of my life for so long but it feels like the right time for me to turn the page," he said in a statement on Tuesday. "There's a lot of people who have supported me in my journey, and to them I'll be forever grateful. "I'm especially looking forward to spending more time with my wife Shani and kids Luca, Charlie and Billie. "I look forward to continuing to support the game away from the field in this next stage of my life." Porecki was part of Australia's 2023 World Cup squad and became the 88th Wallabies captain after injury to Will Skelton, leading the side in three of their four pool matches at the tournament. Schmidt praised Porecki as the "the ultimate professional and quiet achiever." "He doesn't say a lot, preferring to get on with the job and to lead by example, and he's done that really well for the time that I've known him," he said.

Everyone saying the same thing about Dan Sheehan's ban
The dust has fully settled on the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia. In what was expected to be an utterly dominant series win from the tourists, the Wallabies more than held their own for the majority of the series and if not for some injuries, they could've caused a huge upset. However after the dramatic Hugo Keenan try to win the second test, it meant the Lions had the series wrapped up before the third an final test in Sydney. Some would be forgiven for giving the inconsequential Aussie win a miss but the game didn't pass without incident. In the downpour in Sydney, play was interrupted because of lightning strikes and a resurgent Wallabies assured that the series didn't end in a sweep as off the back of a powerful forward pack, they beat the Lions 22-12. Pic:The game didn't pass without controversy however as Lions hooker and Irish international Dan Sheehan seemingly avoided on-pitch punishment for a dangerous clearout on Wallabies' 10 Tom Lynagh. Lynagh would have to leave the pitch for a Head Injury Assessment which he would fail. He may have avoided punishment from the referee or TMO but Sheehan was cited and has now been given a four-match ban, which can be reduced to three if he chooses to complete a tackle school. Pic: Steve Christo/Sportsfile Sheehan is set to miss Leinster's pre-season game against Cardiff in September, followed by their trip to South Africa to face the Stormers to open the URC season, then their home season opener against the Sharks. and if he completes the tackle school he should be available for selection in the interpro derby against Munster at Croke Park on October 18. It appears that Leinster's second game of the season against the Bulls in Bloemfontein has been excluded from the ban as Sheehan would've been unlikely to feature in both of Leinster's games on the South Africa tour. However many fans have pointed out that Sheehan would've been highly unlikely to play in any of these games, making the ban redundant. Sheehan along with the rest of the Irish portion of the Lions squad are likely to received some much deserved time off after an extended season. The earliest people should expect any of the Lions to play is that weekend of the Leinster-Munster interpro on October 18 but even then not every player will feature. Remember that Sam Kane got a straight red card in the World Cup final for something less that what Sheehan did.' Another said; ' Won't miss any 'real' games. Got at least the next 6 weeks off. There's too many ways for players to downgrade their punishment and end up not serving an adequate punishment for the foul they commit. If he returns in time Dan Sheehan should be available for selection for the Croke Park clash against Munster and their home match against Zebre before Ireland go to Chicago to play the All Blacks on November 1.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey appears in court charged with five counts of rape
The Ghanaian midfielder, 32, has been charged with five counts of rape against two women, as well as a charge of sexual assault against a third woman. The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022, when he was an Arsenal player. Partey stood with his arms behind his back in the dock at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, wearing a black zip-neck jumper. The footballer, who gave his address as Potters Bar, showed no reaction as the charges were read out and was not asked to enter any pleas. The alleged offences include incidents of anal rape, the court heard. His bail conditions include that he cannot contact any of the three women and must notify police of any permanent changes of address or international travel. It comes amid reports that Partey is set to join Spanish club Villarreal. As bail conditions were discussed in court, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said: 'I understand he's no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now.' Partey is due to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2. He was charged four days after leaving Arsenal when his contract expired at the end of June A spokeswoman for Arsenal Supporters Against Sexual Violence said they were 'profoundly disappointed' in the north London club for their handling of the matter. Speaking outside court, Honor Barbersaid: 'We never wanted to be in a situation where the club that we love and the club that has values that we believe in was playing, week-in week-out, a player who is now facing court appearances on six counts of sexual violence. 'We protested outside almost every home game last season because we wanted to disrupt the wall of silence that the club has put up around this issue, and we did that because we want to support our club and feel happy and comfortable supporting our club.' Members of the group held a banner which read 'Arsenal said: 'We do the right thing' then did nothing'. Barber said the group wanted Arsenal to publish their sexual violence policies, 'suspend anyone under investigation for sexual offences' and 'properly support the survivors'. London's Metropolitan Police said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire previously said he 'denies all the charges against him', adding he welcomed 'the opportunity to finally clear his name'. He joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 in a transfer worth around £45m. The defensive midfielder signed for the Spanish club in 2012 and made 188 appearances, as well as going out on loan to Mallorca and Leganes. He played 35 games for the north London club in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals. Partey has also made more than 50 appearances for Ghana including at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. An Arsenal spokesperson previously said: 'The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case.'
