A comprehensive three-day cleanup plan has been prepared for the disposal of sacrificial animal waste and offal during Eidul Azha.
A total of 241 collection points have been established across the city, including 168 primary collection points and 73 secondary points. These sites will be used to systematically transfer waste from primary to secondary points and then to designated dumping sites.

Dr Sabir Memon, Executive Director of Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center, confirmed the death toll. One injured person remains under treatment at the hospital. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the deceased include nine women, 15 men, a 10-year-old boy, and an 18-month-old girl identified as Muqaddas. Another deceased was identified as Shoaib by family members. Many of the deceased belong to the Hindu community. As more debris was cleared, more deceased were retrieved from under the rubble. Rescue teams, assisted by scanning equipment, are continuing efforts to locate more survivors or deceased. During the operation, cash, cheques and jewellery were recovered from three separate locations and handed over to the local union council chairperson. The Edhi Foundation confirmed that the deceased have been transferred to the cold storage facility at Lyari Musa Lane. South Deputy Commissioner Javed Nabi Khosa told The Express Tribune that operations are being carried out with utmost care to avoid endangering anyone trapped alive. He noted that the densely populated area has made rescue work difficult. But the teams are equipped with advanced technology, he added. Rescue workers have employed sniffer dogs and heavy machinery as they search the rubble. Resident volunteers along with the police are assisting in the search operation. The building was declared dangerous after signs of structural leaning were identified. Severe cracks had appeared in the structure after the recent monsoon spell. The residents resisted at first but agreed to leave after successful negotiations. According to South Deputy Commissioner, the building housed 12 flats with 57 residents from 11 families. The building has now been sealed, its power supply has been disconnected and the water tank has been demolished to prevent further danger. 'Unfit for living' Speaking to Express News, Lyari Municipal Officer Hammad ND Khan said that the Sindh government has decided to evacuate all hazardous buildings in Lyari. He said that a formal operation will be decided on Monday during a meeting chaired by the Sindh chief minister. It is expected that all dangerous buildings will be evacuated in phases and demolished. He added that the provincial government will develop a policy to provide alternative housing for the residents of these unsafe structures. Arrangements for temporary accommodation have been made in community centres and hotels for the victims of the collapsed and evacuated buildings, he said. However, most of the affected residents have chosen to stay with their relatives or on-site, he said, adding that TMC Lyari is providing food and other necessities for them. According to Khan, the rescue operation is likely to be end on Sunday. Legal action will be taken under the law against all those involved in illegal constructions in Lyari, he said. One affected woman said the temporary shelter at a KMC school in Lyari was "unfit for living". Demanding accountability for endangered lives, affected residents have accused SBCA officials of accepting bribes, both during and after the building's construction, and ignoring clear violations. After the evacuation, SBCA registered a case at Kalri Police Station against the builder and an unnamed contractor. The FIR states that substandard materials and illegal construction methods were used, putting residents' lives at serious risk, thereby necessitating the sealing of the building. The deputy commissioner said that if any government officials are found complicit in the building's construction, legal action will also be taken against them. He added that residents will be supported in recovering their financial losses from the builder.

Child falls overboard on Disney Dream cruise; father jumps in to rescue her

PHOTO: EXPRESS A child fell overboard from the Disney Dream cruise ship on June 29, prompting a dramatic rescue at sea when her father jumped in after her. The ship, operated by Disney Cruise Line, was returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from a four-night Bahamian cruise when the incident occurred. According to a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson, the ship's crew acted swiftly. 'We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes,' the statement said. The emergency was marked by the 'Mr. M.O.B.' (man overboard) code broadcast over the intercom system. Passengers confirmed the incident happened while the ship was still at sea, not docked. The child reportedly fell from Deck 4, which features a walking track and plexiglass safety barriers. The father leaped into the ocean immediately after. Within minutes, crew members deployed life preservers and a rescue boat, successfully retrieving both individuals. One cruiser, Kevin Furuta, shared on Facebook, 'A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her ... Thankfully the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!' Experts urge safe meat preservation
Health experts have advised citizens to adopt proper meat preservation methods, have the know-how to consume fresh meat to keep their health intact, and avoid risks of saving it from heat and loadshedding. The ritual of Sunnah Ibrahimi (RA) is performed on Eidul Azha by Muslims as a prerequisite for Hajj each year, which is considered the greatest sacrifice in Islam. Talking to a private news channel, Associate Professor and Gastroenterologist Dr Abdullah bin Khalid of the Aga Khan University Hospital has recommended that the citizens should consume sacrificial meat in the form of steaming or boiling, not in processed form. He said that the use of red meat in processed form is not good for humans adding that World Health Organization (WHO) had already declared the consumption of red meat can cause many harmful effects on humans' health and quoted American Heart Disease department estimate that only 350 gram of meat per week can be consumed. Dr Abdullah recommended different precautionary measures i.e. from cutting of qurbani meat till the process of its cooking such as, 1) the meat should be cleared of all the fats, 2) cook the meat in healthy oils i.e. olive oil that is extra virgin oil, canola oil or sunflower oil etc, 3) red meat should not be cooked on high flame, or till prolonged time as it will decrease its nutritive value adding that he said cooking the meat on high flame may be tasty but would be low in nutrition wise, 4) cook meat on low flame will retain its the nutrition value, 5) use meat with salads and chutnies. Replying to a question, he said that patients with heart issues, angina, and high cholesterol should use red meat in moderate quantity, adding that we do not advise them not to eat meat anyway.
