TDAP-SWCCI workshop aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs
LAHORE: In an effort to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem for women in Sialkot, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Women Entrepreneur Division, in collaboration with the Sialkot Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SWCCI), successfully organised a capacity-building workshop titled 'Investment Readiness Program' in Sialkot.
The initiative was designed to support women-led startups and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) by equipping them with the strategic tools needed to attract investment and scale their ventures confidently.
The workshop drew an enthusiastic group of approximately 30 women entrepreneurs who engaged in the interactive learning experience. It was led by Saad Ashraf Raja, Founder of Edlytica, who covered a comprehensive range of topics essential to early-stage business development. Key modules included strategic planning using the Business Model Canvas, financial literacy, investor engagement, and preparing investor-ready documentation such as data rooms.
Saad Ashraf also introduced participants to various financing options, from traditional bank lending to angel investment and venture capital.
Participants were encouraged to actively engage throughout the session, leading to rich discussions and tailored advice that addressed real-world business challenges.

KP holds awareness session on e-vehicle policy
PESHAWAR: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organised an awareness session on National Electric Vehicle Policy (2025-30) here at Civil Secretariat. It was jointly presided over by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Industries, Abdul Karim Tordher, and Special Assistant for Transport, Rangez Khan, along with Federal Secretary for Industries and Production, Saif Anjum. Saif Anjum gave a detailed presentation aimed at promotion of electric mobility and eco-friendly transport across the country. The workshop was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Department Ikramullah, Secretary Planning and Development Department Adeel Shah, Secretary Transport Masood Younas, along with other senior officials, representatives from federal and provincial departments, industrialists, business leaders, President of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI), Fazal Muqeem, representatives from traders' associations and other key stakeholders. The workshop was organized to raise awareness about the new national policy and to strengthen coordination between federal and provincial governments. Participants actively contributed suggestions for further improving the policy. Under the new five-year policy, a target has been set to convert 30% of the country's vehicles to electric by 2030. To support this transition, 3,000 electric vehicle charging stations will be established nationwide. Addressing the participants, the Special Assistant Abdul Karim Tordher said that the world is moving towards environmentally friendly transport solutions and the promotion of electric vehicles (EVs) is a significant step in this direction. He said that sincere policy-making efforts in Pakistan is a positive step in this regard, but emphasized the urgent need for a clear and comprehensive regulatory framework to ensure effective implementation. He stressed the importance of developing local manufacturing capabilities for electric vehicles, particularly in the production of lithium batteries. Trade with Uzbekistan: FCCI says issues related to banks can be resolved on priority basis
FAISALABAD: Banks related issues could be resolved on top priority basis to give a quantum jump to the bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, said Rehan Naseem Bharara, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI). In a meeting with Sarvar Abdirakhimov, Second Secretary Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, they discussed diverse issues relating to agriculture, textile, towel, hosiery, surgical goods and cutlery etc. President FCCI said that Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Tukhtayev was kind enough to allow the issuance of visas to the local businessmen on the recommendation of FCCI on his personal request while Uzbek Airways was also operating three weekly flights between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. He said that middle men were exploiting the current situation due to the non-availability of proper and direct banking channels between the two countries. He said that the governments of two countries must remove these hurdles to streamline and enhance the direct trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Rehan Naseem said that he has extended an invitation to Alisher Tukhtayev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to visit FCCI at a time and date convenient to him. Sarvar Abdirakhimov said that his government was offering excellent opportunities and incentives to the potential investors. He said that land would be provided particularly to the potato growers in Uzbekistan. He said that his country was also interested in enhancing cooperation with Pakistani investors in the fields of leather and meat processing etc. He said that the Uzbek President is also expected to visit Pakistan which would help in resolving the current issues at the top level. He said that a 'Made in Pakistan Expo' was held in June last year and this practice could be repeated to showcase and introduce Pakistani products in the Uzbek markets. Qaisar Shams Gucha, SVP offered vote of thanks while President Rehan Naseem Bharara decorated Sarvar Abdirakhimov with a special 'Pin' to mark the 50 Year Golden Jubilee Celebrations of FCCI. Pakistan envoy to China visits Khorgos Free Trade Zone, Cooperation Centre
BEIJING: Pakistan's envoy to China Ambassador Khalil Hashmi paid a detailed visit to Khorgos Free Trade Zone in northern Xinjiang. This zone offers a unique triad of advantages as China's busiest dry port, border gate and cooperation Centre serving as an ideal bridge for the free flow of good and people between China and Kazakhstan. He also met with the local leadership and discussed how this dry port had developed into sixth generation crossing point for people and goods. Both sides also discussed ways to carry out exchanges and collaboration to draw upon the good practices of Khorgos dry port for its potential application in the Khunjerab dry port between Pakistan and China. The Ambassador is currently in Xinjiang, China for an official visit. During his visit to the dry port, Ambassador Hashmi was briefed on how technology-driven operations of the customs and immigration authorities at Khorgos had led to efficient, uninterrupted movement of people and goods. Among other things, it was informed that cargo trucks could be customs cleared in 25-30 minutes due to integration of technology and the two way volume of trade had increased 46 % in 2025 year-on-year basis. The Ambassador was also briefed on the successful operation of the duty free border market spread over an area of 5.8 square kilometres where citizens of China and Kazakhstan as well as third countries could enter and shop duty free. The Ambassador and local authorities decided to maintain contact to promote exchanges and study visits to explore the possibility of replicating this successful model for Pakistan's border markets with its friendly neighbors. Ambassador's visit comes in the wake of several measures taken in recent years by both Pakistan and China to upgrade the land border infrastructure between the two countries.
