MTA, EGTB Drive Marine Conservation Through ‘Ghost Net & Beach Cleanup' Campaign In Perak
The initiative, organised by the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) in collaboration with Etiqa General Takaful Berhad (EGTB) and supported by the Nature Ocean Advocate Society (NOAS), Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) and the Perak State Parks Corporation, involved over 80 volunteers, including 50 students, 12 certified divers, 11 NOAS professional divers and representatives from relevant agencies.
MTA chief executive officer Mohd Radzuan Mohamed said the campaign was aimed at raising public awareness on the importance of preserving the environment, particularly the marine ecosystem, which was under growing threat due to pollution.
'This campaign reflects the Takaful industry's commitment to environmental sustainability, in line with the Hijrah27 Transformation Plan under Strategic Thrust 8 (Sustainability & ESG), as part of efforts to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water, which emphasises the conservation of marine resources.
'As a value-based industry, the Takaful sector not only protects people but also the environment. We hope this initiative will inspire more parties to incorporate sustainability into their operations,' he said when met by Bernama here today.
Also present at the programme were Etiqa General Takaful Berhad chief executive officer Shahrul Azuan Mohamed, USAS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wan Sabri Wan Yusof and USAS deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Industry Networking) Prof Dr Shamsul Jamili Yeop.
Mohd Radzuan said MTA, in collaboration with its strategic partners, would continue the conservation programme at other locations as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He said the programme, which was a continuation of the 'Echoes of the Deep' photo exhibition launched at the AICB Knowledge Centre in Kuala Lumpur last month, had successfully removed 328 kilogrammes (kg) of ghost nets from the seabed off Pulau Sembilan.
He added that more than 125 kg of rubbish, including food and drink packaging and discarded items, were collected along a one-kilometre (km) stretch of Teluk Nipah beach.

MADANI Sales: 2,500 Free Chickens Distributed At Two Locations In Port Dickson
PORT DICKSON, July 20 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM) held in conjunction with 'Ukhuwah Kepimpinan Kerajaan MADANI' programme in Port Dickson today distributed 2,500 free chickens to lucky visitors. The programme organised by the Malaysian Nationhood Academy in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living distributed free chickens at two different locations, namely 500 at Batu 1 PJRM while the rest were at Dataran Kampung Pachitan PJRM. A Bernama survey at the Batu 1 PJRM here found that people started coming to the PJRM around 8 am and were seen increasing by midday today to get essential goods at lower prices than the market. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also distributed free chickens to lucky visitors at Batu 1 PJRM, besides being enlivened by the presence of MADANI government MPs and cabinet ministers to greet the people. Visitor, Nurul Nabila Salleh, 36, said she was really looking forward to PJRM because the prices were very cheap compared to the market price. The mother of two hopes that a programme like this can be held every month to help the needy, especially the B40 who are really looking forward to PJRM. "The goods are sold very cheap compared to other supermarkets, if possible it can be held every week or at least every end of the month so that the people can buy at a cheaper price," she told Bernama here today. Former headmaster, A. Damutaran, 68 who agreed with the view said the purchase not only saves money, but also allows buyers to get complete kitchen needs in one place. SJKT Sangeetha Sabah Aims To Become Model Tamil School In Perak
IPOH, July 19 (Bernama) -- A reunion gathering of former students and teachers of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Perak Sangeetha Sabah held here today is seen as a positive step toward positioning the school as a model Tamil school in Perak. Organising chairman P. Chithirakala Vasu said the initiative will be led by alumni and former educators in an effort to strengthen the school's standing ahead of its 100th anniversary celebration. 'So far, we have reached out to more than 500 former students, and we are committed to seeing SJKT Sangeetha Sabah thrive and excel. As we know, the school was established in 1934. 'Many of the alumni now hold prominent positions and can contribute ideas and support to help enhance the school's performance,' she said at the Celebrating 90 Years of Memories reunion event, which was attended by about 50 alumni. Also present was MIC Vice President Tan Sri M. Ramasamy. Meanwhile, Ramasamy described Sangeetha Sabah as more than just a school—calling it an institution and a symbol of dedication to learning, heritage, and the values that unite the community. 'This reunion is not merely a return to the past.
