Two killed, 16 injured in Ayer Hitam expressway crash
Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief, assistant fire superintendent Mohamad Shamin Mohamed Salikin, confirmed the victims as Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44. Both were trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.
The station received an emergency call at 12.44am, prompting a swift response from rescue teams. A Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, along with seven personnel from Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng stations, were deployed.
'The crash involved a tour bus, a Volvo tow truck, and a tanker lorry. Rescue personnel found the two men trapped inside the bus and confirmed them dead at the scene,' Mohamad Shamin said in a statement.
Sixteen injured individuals, including the bus driver, were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Another 28 passengers escaped unharmed. Special equipment was used to extricate the victims, and the operation concluded at 3.03am.

The American national appeared in a suit at a court in Bali's provincial capital Denpasar, speaking to confirm his identity, and that he is a Christian from Florida. A verdict was not expected until a later hearing. The US embassy in Jakarta declined to comment. Indonesia hands out severe punishments for drug smuggling and has previously executed foreigners, but has upheld a moratorium on the death sentence since 2017. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's administration has moved in recent months to repatriate several high-profile inmates, all sentenced for drug offences, back to their home countries. Frenchman Serge Atlaoui returned to France in February after Jakarta and Paris agreed a deal to repatriate him on "humanitarian grounds" because he was ill. In December, Indonesia took Mary Jane Veloso off death row and returned her to the Philippines. Sisters nabbed in Lahad Datu after shopping spree with lost debit card
KOTA KINABALU: What three sisters thought was a "paid" shopping spree turned into a costly lesson when they were arrested for misusing a lost debit card in Lahad Datu. The three women reportedly came across the misplaced card and used it for purchases in several malls around town. Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail said on Tuesday (Aug 5) that the owner of the card lodged a report after discovering that the card was missing. The issuing bank then found several transactions made using payWave, and this led to the arrest of the three women, he added. ACP Dzulbaharin said the women are being investigated for unauthorised access to computer material under the Computer Crimes Act 1997. In an unrelated case, two people were detained for providing false information in a MyKad application at the National Registration Department (NRD) in Sandakan on Monday (Aug 4). According to the Sandakan NRD, the first arrest involved a woman suspected of giving false information as the guarantor in an application. The second arrest involved an Indonesian man at the same premises for allegedly using another person's birth certificate as his own to apply for a Malaysian identity card.
