A brilliant new war drama is about to be removed from BBC iPlayer
BBC viewers only have a couple of days to binge-watch one of the best recent historical dramas available on iPlayer.
Starring several major names from the world of British TV and film, this stunning Second World War series dramatises several pivotal moments from the conflict.

While battles are fought across Europe, the lives of several ordinary citizens intertwine in surprising ways.

World on Fire's second series, which features Doctor Who 's Jonah Hauer-King leading the drama as British interpreter Harry Chase, is currently on BBC iPlayer - but not for long.
It's set to be removed this Wednesday (16th July), giving viewers less than two days to catch up on this acclaimed six-part series.

The drama, created by Peter Bowker, currently has an impressive 84 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating rave reviews from TV critics.
The aggregator's critical consensus reads: 'Though at times more style than substance, World on Fire's layered storytelling never steps on itself, leaving room for its excellent ensemble and gorgeous set-pieces to fill in any narrative gaps.'
A five-star Google review from a fan concurred: 'Outstanding gritty realistic..... superbly acted with 3 plots running at the same time.

'BBC is the only organization that can make a series like this and it is one of their best.'
Another said: 'Engrossing and exciting, World on Fire brings us into the lives of civilians in Britain, Poland, France and Germany during World War Two.
'The compelling central characters experience the cruelties and heroism of life under fascism but from completely fresh angles.

'Eye opening and great acting. Leslie Manville on superlative form.'
Scott Bryan said of the show: 'It's deeply haunting, this first episode is set in 1939 and the lack of knowledge that the characters have about how the war will unfold, in this awful momentous period in history; the anxiety really builds.

"It's a remarkable form of storytelling; from different sides, different locations, people from different classes, sexualities and at the end of the day what it shows really well is 'war was hell'. It's absolutely a Must Watch.'
And an audience member on RT posted: 'A really engaging storytelling with an excellent execution. The cast was quite interesting.
'I really love the multilanguage aspect of the show. It really shows the world to its viewers.

'This adds a layer of authenticity and realism, especially it shows the story is set in a real culturally diverse environment.'
In addition to Hauer-King and Manville, the second season of World on Fire features an incredible line-up featuring Julia Brown, Blake Harrison, Ewan Mitchell and Mark Bonnar.
With just a matter of hours until the second series is removed, will you be catching up on this riveting historical drama with an evening binge this week?
World on Fire series 2 is available on BBC iPlayer until Wednesday, 16th July.

Bear Grylls reportedly set to host bizarre new BBC show that sees 'feuding people rekindle through nature'

Bear Grylls is reportedly lined-up to host a bizarre new BBC show that will see the born survivor 'rekindle feuding people through nature'. The 51-year-old adventurer will lead colleagues, friends and neighbours alike on an expedition in Wild Reckoning, according to a TV source. It's thought the show will air next year, after his Netflix series Celebrity Bear Hunt was axed after just one series. But it seems he's back with something a little different this time. An insider told The Sun: 'Bear will be back doing what he does best - showing people that nature is the best healer. 'He's married for 25 years and a dad of three so is well versed in handling such challenges.' Bear has previously said that good communication with wife Shara, 51, and their three sons is the key to getting along. Daily Mail has contacted the BBC and Bear's reps for comment. In June, it was confirmed Netflix have axed their big money television show Celebrity Bear Hunt. The programme, which was set in Costa Rica and was hosted by Holly Willoughby alongside Bear Grylls, won't return. Sources close to the show which aired in February say that while the ratings did well it was expensive to make and Netflix are now planning to do more live events rather than pre-recorded shows. One told MailOnline: 'Everyone was very proud of the show but when it came to it, it was just so expensive to make. 'You had to have a whole set in Costa Rica, loads of staff and loads of celebrities. The overheads were eyewatering.' It is understood that cheaper locations were looked at but nothing was appeared to be suitable. Celebrity Bear Hunt had an impressive line up of celebrities including Spice Girl Mel B and tennis player Boris Becker who would not have been cheap to hire, according to sources. Other celebrities that took part included Lottie Moss, Danny Cipriani, Big Zuu, Joe Thomas, Kola Bokinni, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Leomie Anderson, Shirley Ballas, Steph McGovern and Una Healy. The show, which was Holly's first programme with Netflix, featured twelve celebrities who are sent to a jungle in Costa Rica, where they were forced to avoid being hunted down by Grylls. Along the way, the celebrities faced various challenges and solve puzzles.

Operation Save Davie is on, but one more scandal and ‘he's out'

O n Friday evening, Tim Davie was at the opening night of the BBC Proms, listening to a Mendelssohn overture that was inspired by a cave on an uninhabited Scottish island. Given the past month the BBC's director-general has had, hotfooting it from the Royal Albert Hall to that Hebridean cavern may have seemed quite appealing. Last week was the most bruising in a line of bruising weeks for Davie, who was under attack on three fronts. On Monday the BBC admitted that its documentary about children in Gaza had breached editorial guidelines; the MasterChef scandal was reignited by the release of the report into Gregg Wallace's behaviour and the subsequent sacking of his former co-host John Torode; and Davie was facing renewed scrutiny over the live streaming of antisemitic comments by Bob Vylan at Glastonbury last month.

Mrs Browns Boys returning to the BBC after controversy

The fifth series of the comedy programme is now only weeks away and is returning despite the creator apologising for a racial slur. Teasing the new show, the corporation said: "Agnes Brown and the gang from Finglas are back! "Everyone's favourite Irish Mammy returns for a brand new fifth series featuring all your favourite characters, so get ready for more slapstick shenanigans this spring!" According to The Sun, the BBC's head of comedy, Jon Petrie, added: "Brendan has created an iconic comedy character in Agnes Brown. "Mrs. Brown's Boys is a BAFTA-winning comedy show and one of the BBC's most-watched comedies ever. I'm proud to have it in the BBC Comedy stable." Mrs Brown's Boys will return to UK telly on Friday, August 1 at 9:30pm on BBC One. BBC viewers dub Mrs Brown's Boys 'utter garbage' and 'worst thing' they have ever seen Despite this popularity, many are not so keen on the show, with one person penning: "The worst show I've ever seen. It's ghastly, and thankfully, no one I know likes it, because if they did, then I'd disown them. UTTER GARBAGE." Another said: "Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever watched in my life. "For something that is labelled as a comedy, it is incredibly unfunny. "The entire premise of this show is woefully outdated, predictable, cringe inducing, with an annoyingly overactive audience. "Of all genres, comedy is probably the most diverse in terms of its audience reception, but if 1920s-style slapstick is your jam, this will probably tick a box for you." However, with a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb, most enjoy the programme. Recommended Reading: One person wrote: "Some of the funniest slapstick I have seen in years. The live audience and the accidentals (on-stage flubs) only serve to make what is already hilariously funny, even funnier." Another added: "Love this series. I can't stop watching it. Terrific cast, fantastic humour. I never want the show to end. So much craziness in the world today, so much to worry about, but this show takes you away from it. Brilliant, Mr. O'Carroll." A third fan said: "So glad I stumbled upon this show through a friend. It has to be the funniest show I've ever seen!"
