Pricey Rolls Royce rental used in several Metro Detroit bank robberies
That is what happened when a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce was rented and used in a string of thefts, and the owner was unaware.
The backstory
Sam Zahar is the owner of Southfield's Dream Luxury Car Rental, where this week, a customer rented a Rolls-Royce for $1,750 per day.
That was when the theft spree started as the suspect traversed Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb Counties, robbing banks along the way. The case is in the hands of the feds, so it's unclear how many thefts the Rolls and the renter are tied to.
What they're saying
Zahar didn't even know it was going on, as he only found out while scrolling through his phone, seeing a video on Metro Detroit news.
"This is my car," he said. "I got a screenshot and I tried to, that's my car. I was about probably four detectives by my house driving around thinking I stole the bank because the car is under my name."
The driver led police on a chase, then bailed and ran on the city's east side Wednesday night.
Police were able to recover the SUV with about $15,000 in damages, with the driver on the run.

This was, unfortunately, not the first time this had happened to Zahar, as a few months prior someone rented a car from him, then robbed a mail truck after some renters took a G-Wagon for a joyride.
Most recently, a $300,000 vehicle was likely stolen during transport from Miami to Detroit.

Big picture view According to court records verified by the Oakland County Prosecutor, Kinloch assaulted his wife multiple times in the couple's Southfield apartment during an evening in 1993, leading to charges before an eventual plea deal. Testimony from the responding Southfield police officer includes details that Kinloch threw a glass at the victim, threatened her with a knife, and eventually struck her in the back of her head with the handle of the weapon. When the police arrived, the victim was bleeding from a cut she suffered on her hand, had scratches on her face, and could not walk because of injuries she suffered from the thrown glass, according to observations from the responding officer. Kinloch was charged with felonious assault before pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault and battery. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation. Oakland County court records also show he violated his probation and had his sentence extended. Kinloch and the victim remained married for several more years before the two divorced in 2004. A spokesperson with the campaign responded with a statement saying: "More than thirty years ago as a nineteen-year-old, Pastor Kinloch made a mistake. He's never attempted to hide it or run from it. The backstory Kinloch has positioned himself as a political outsider in the campaign to be Detroit's next mayor. Characterizing himself as a community leader with humble roots, he has led the Triumph Church in Detroit for decades. Serving at the helm since 1998, he helped grow the congregation into the tens of thousands with members across Metro Detroit. Kinloch has also scored significant endorsements during the campaign, including one from the United Auto Workers Union. Man indicted after creating improvised explosive devices and placing on Williamsburg Bridge and Manhattan rooftop
A 55-year-old man was indicted Tuesday after authorities say he created and placed at least seven improvised explosive devices in different areas of New York City, including subway track on the Williamsburg Bridge and on Manhattan residential apartment building rooftops, according to an indictment announced Tuesday. Michael Gann, who lives in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, ordered precursor chemicals, which can be combined to create an explosive mixture, online and formulated the seven IEDs, the indictment says. Gann is charged with one count of attempted destruction of property by means of explosives, one count of transportation of explosive materials and one count of unlawful possession of destructive devices. CNN has reached out to an attorney representing Gann but they didn't immediately respond. 'Michael Gann allegedly produced multiple improvised explosive devices intended for use in Manhattan,' FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher G. Raia said in a statement. 'Due to the successful partnership of law enforcement agencies in New York, Gann was swiftly brought to justice before he could harm innocent civilians shortly after his dangerous actions became known.' Vikings' Jordan Addison Resolves DUI Case, Pleads No Contest To Lesser Charge
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison resolved a 2024 DUI citation by pleading no contest to a lesser charge, his attorney said Thursday. Last July, the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a disabled vehicle blocking a lane, and Addison was found asleep in the driver's seat of his white Rolls-Royce and was arrested. Addison, who has 133 catches for 1,786 yards and 19 touchdowns in two seasons, agreed to what is known as a "wet reckless" in California. His attorney, Jacqueline Sparagna, said he will pay a fine and complete two online courses with the expectation that his probation will be shortened from 12 to six months. "Wet reckless" is a plea bargain in which a person charged with a DUI accepts a lesser, misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. The "wet" indicates that alcohol or drugs were involved. "While Mr. Addison's case would have made for a great trial, I admire him for taking responsibility by accepting the City Attorney's "wet reckless" offer," Sparagna said. "Now, he can put this incident behind him and solely focus on his promising career." Tim Younger, Addison's agent, wrote in a social media post that Addison "has kept the organization apprised throughout these legal proceedings, and will continue in his full commitment to being a valuable member of his team."
