New Delhi: State-owned
THDC India

Gujarat government
to supply 184.08 MW
clean energy
from its pumped storage plant (PSP) in Uttarakhand.
The agreement with Gujarat is aimed at supporting Gujarat's peak-hour power demand and enabling the large-scale integration of renewable energy (RE) into the grid, THDC India said in a statement on Thursday.
The agreement was signed between THDC India Director (Finance) Sipan Kumar Garg and GUVNL MD Anupam Anand, in presence of Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals, Government of Gujarat and THDC India CMD R K Vishnoi on Wednesday in Gandhinagar.
"The agreement reinforces THDCIL's commitment to driving the energy transition through innovative
hydropower
technologies. With India's first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant, we are offering Gujarat a reliable and green energy solution to meet its dynamic peak-hour requirements," THDC India Ltd CMD Vishnoi said.
THDC India Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC, has constructed a 1,000 MW (250 MW x 4 units) PSP project at Tehri in Uttarakhand.
The first unit began commercial operations of electricity earlier this month.
On the agreement, THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) further said it is aligned with the Government of India's vision of promoting pumped storage projects as a reliable solution for flexible generation and grid balancing, particularly in the face of rising renewable penetration and variable demand patterns.
THDCIL has an overall installed power generation capacity of 2497 MW, including 1,865 MW under various stages of construction.
The company generates power from sources like hydro and pumped storage, thermal, wind and solar. PTI

All You Need To Know About UPI Changes Effective From August 1

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is set to implement a set of changes to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from August 1, 2025. The changes, including balance check and transaction status, are aimed at making the interface stable and efficient. In a circular dated April 26, 2025, NPCI stated that they are working to reduce the response time of UPI transactions to improve the performance. It added that the adjustments will benefit remitter banks, beneficiary banks and Payment Service Providers (PSPs), such as PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm. Later on May 21, 2025, NPCI noted: "PSP banks and/or acquiring banks shall ensure all the API requests (in terms of velocity and TPS - transactions per second limitations) sent to UPI are monitored and moderated in terms of appropriate usage (customer-initiated and PSP system-initiated)." Here are the key changes: Daily Balance Check Limit: The users can check their account balance only 50 times a day per UPI app. If they use multiple apps, the limit applies to each app separately. Transaction Status Check Limit: They can check the status of a failed transaction only 3 times a day, with a minimum gap of 90 seconds between each check. AutoPay Timings: AutoPay transactions will be processed in specific time slots: Before 10 AM, Between 1 PM and 5 PM and After 9:30 PM. Linked Bank Account View Limit: The users can view their linked bank accounts only 25 times a day. Payment Reversal Cap: They can raise a maximum of 10 payment reversal requests in 30 days, with a cap of 5 per sender. Beneficiary Name Display: The recipient's registered bank name will be visible before confirming payment, reducing errors and fraud. Stricter Rules for Banks and UPI Apps: NPCI will monitor API usage, and non-compliant banks and apps may face penalties or restricted access. "Members are requested to take note of this compliance requirement and communicate it to relevant stakeholders and their respective partners for implementation by 31st July 2025," the circular added. IMF praises India's UPI Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) praised India, saying that the nation makes faster payments than any other country with the quick growth of UPI. The usage of other instruments, including debit and credit cards, is on the decline. "India now makes faster payments than any other country. At the same time, proxies for cash usage have fallen," the note said. "Since its launch in 2016, UPI has grown quickly, while some proxies for cash usage have begun to decline. UPI now processes more than 18 billion transactions per month and dominates other electronic retail payments in India," the fintech note said.

Andhra govt cancels two Adani projects at company's request

The Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled two Adani Green Energy Ltd 's ( AGEL ) pumped hydro storage power projects (PSP)--1,200 MW Kurukutti and 1,000 MW Karrivalasa--at the request of the company due to "local issues", a top official said on Monday. In a government order (GO), Chief Secretary K Vijayanand noted that AGEL wrote to the government to cancel these projects due to boundary disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, which it termed "local issues". "The government, after detailed examination of the proposal of AGEL in consultation with various stakeholders, has further issued orders for the cancellation of 1200 MW Kurukutti and 1000 MW Karrivalasa Pumped Hydro Storage Power Projects in Parvathipuram Manyam District allotted to AGEL," Vijayanand said. The AGEL received permission to set up these two projects during the previous YSRCP government on June 29, 2022. The feasibility reports for these projects were prepared by the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) by engaging TCE Ltd while AGEL took up the responsibility of survey and investigations and the preparation of detailed project report (DPR). On September 12, 2024, AGEL requested the cancellation of these two projects due to a boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and requested to refund the facilitation charges paid by the company or adjust those funds towards the allotment fee due for 1000 MW Pedakota and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects. The Pedaktoa and Raiwada projects were also allotted to AGEL. Again on May 15, 2025, AGEL requested the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects through a letter, said Vijayanand. Taking into consideration the difficulties in conducting survey and investigations due to border disputes, the vice chairman and managing director of NREDCAP, M Kamalakara Babu, has requested the government to consider the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects as "there is no fault on the part of the developer", AGEL, said Vijayanand. Further, Babu also requested the approval to adjust fee paid for these projects after deducting the expenses incurred for conducting the survey and investigations by NREDCAP against facilitation fees and DPR expenses after adjusting the taxes payable, in respect of 1000 MW Pedakota PSP and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects. The AGEL's cancellation proposal was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on July 17 and it had agreed to cancel Kurukutti and Karrivalasa projects due to local issues as per the request of the developer, added Vijayanand.
