Himanta slams Gaurav over Op Sindoor debate in House
1 2 3 4 Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP from the state and deputy LoP in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, following his speech during the debate on Operation Sindoor on Tuesday, escalating their ongoing political confrontation into a bitter war of words over national security and alleged Pakistani connections. Sarma, who is currently in New Delhi, took to social media platform X, writing, "Speech delivered by our MP from Jorhat in Parliament yesterday proved beyond doubt that he acts on behalf of Pakistan," Sarma went further, describing Gogoi as "a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our pride as proud Indians". Sarma's attack centred on several key allegations. He claimed that Gogoi's "secret trip and close ties with the Pakistani establishment speak volumes". The CM also highlighted what he characterized as a vulnerability in Gogoi's position, stating: "With his wife and both the kids holding foreign citizenship, he can leave India any time". Joining Sarma on X, former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh wrote that Gogoi's "ignorance of modern warfare is a bit concerning" and added, "Truly ashamed to say that he is from the North East." Singh wrote, "Questioning why our fighter jets did not engage at a close range ignores the strategic brilliance of long-range precision strikes that protected our soldiers and ensured that the mission was successful. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? In his speech during the Operation Sindoor debate, Gogoi had questioned the govt's transparency regarding the military operation that followed the Pahalgam terror attack . The Congress MP criticised defence minister Rajnath Singh for not explaining how terrorists managed to reach Pahalgam and kill 26 innocent people.

Incident tarnished India's image, says Orthodox synod
1 2 3 Kottayam: The Episcopal Synod of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church condemned the arrest of the two nuns in Chhattisgarh. The synod, which began at the Church headquarters in Kottayam on Tuesday, assessed that the incident was another example of misusing the anti-conversion law across the country. The synod opined that secularism in the country was facing a serious threat. India's diversity is what sets it apart in the world. Unfortunately, the Chhattisgarh incident tarnished our country's image in the eyes of the world, the synod said. Christian missionaries are carrying out unparalleled mission activities among Adivasis and Dalits. The Christian community is doing notable service in various sectors like education and health. Those who view this with a hateful attitude are hindering the development of the country. The govt should take action against such religious fundamentalists. The fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution should be protected, the synod opined. The synod, which expressed concern over the continuous persecution of Christians in various parts of the country, also demanded that justice be ensured for the nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo Malankara Mar Thoma Church condemns attack Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church Metropolitan Theodosius Mar Thoma condemned the arrests of the nuns in Chhattisgarh. The arrest of nuns engaged in dedicated service in Chhattisgarh was truly a matter of deep concern and worthy of condemnation, said the metropolitan. "The innocent nuns, who serve selflessly without any religious or social discrimination, became the victims of an act that blatantly violates fundamental rights and undermines the core values of Indian democracy. It is the govt's responsibility to ensure justice through the country's legal framework and to make it accessible to all citizens," he said. Legal protection must be provided to everyone, regardless of caste or religion, and the innocent must be safeguarded. The nuns must be assured of full legal protection, released without delay and justice must prevail, he said. MSID:: 122977653 413 |

SAD to intensify agitation against land pooling policy, hold protests across Punjab
Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday declared it will intensify agitation against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab govt's 'Land Pooling Policy'. The party announced plans to hold at least four major protests, one each in Bathinda, Patiala, Ferozepur, and Moga in August. The decision was made after a core committee meeting of the party on Tuesday. Following the meeting, senior SAD leader and party spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema stated that the party would protest against the "land grabbing scheme" in Bathinda on Aug 4, in Patiala on Aug 11, in Ferozepur on Aug 21, and in Moga on Aug 30. He mentioned that "the outline of the state-wide opposition to the govt's land loot was discussed at meetings of the party district presidents as well as the working committee earlier in the day, which were presided over by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal." Earlier in the morning, Badal launched the party's state-wide campaign, "Proud to be Akali" (Mainu Maan Akali Hon Te), by releasing and pasting stickers on the workers' vehicles and also releasing flags to be hoisted on the homes of all workers and supporters of the party. "Members in all three meetings strongly condemned the wave of vendetta and repression let loose against the workers and leaders of the Opposition parties, especially the SAD," Cheema said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Cheema also condemned the shocking incident of a Sikh girl student, Gurpreet Kaur, being stopped from appearing in the Rajasthan Judicial Services exam in Jaipur. He said the meeting outlined an elaborate programme in connection with sacred religious and historical events, including the anniversary of the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur and the historic Rakhar Punia conference at Baba Bakala Sahib on Aug 9. Cheema stated that the Punjab govt, especially the chief minister, owed an apology to the Khalsa Panth for "turning the solemn anniversary of the Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib into an entertainment programme at Srinagar." The Akali leader added, "It is strange that the CM has not even deemed it necessary to express regrets and apologies for the event organised by his govt." Responding to a question about the five-member committee calling a meeting of general house delegates to elect the president of a new faction of the party on August 11, for what it calls the revival of the Shiromani Akali Dal on the directions of Akal Takht, SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said, "Anyone is free to make a new party. Everyone has the right to interpret things in their own way." However, Cheema pointed out that "the then Akal Takht Jathedar termed the decision, exercise, and assigning of duties by (SAD) working committee (to carry out membership drive as per party Constitution) as correct." Cheema emphasised, "The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) election took place on April 12, in which the party president was elected. The party organisation has also been largely announced. The record has been submitted to the Election Commission as per the party Constitution. District chiefs have been appointed, and the process to complete the organisational structure at the circle and booth level is in its final stages. " Questioning the legality of the five-member committee carrying out the exercise claiming it will usher in a revived SAD, Cheema said, "Is it legally possible? Tomorrow any four people can come together (and say they are forming SAD)." He added, "This is not a joke. As per the party Constitution, even if a booth level agent is to be appointed, it will have my signature and that of the constituency representatives authorised by me. There are rules, there is a party symbol (allotted by the Election Commission)." MSID: 122978625 413 |
