Q) have just accepted a pretty senior role at a firm I've wanted to be part of for a while.
However, since receiving the offer, I've discovered I'm pregnant – we weren't trying for a baby, but we'd like to progress with the pregnancy.
My question is, what's the right next step – do I tell my new employer up front?
Or maybe I should stay at my current job in order to get Statutory Maternity Pay?
I'm trying to deal with the physical, mental and financial changes to my life this pregnancy is going to bring, and I can't decide the best way to move forward.

It's completely understandable to feel uncertain about how to navigate this situation.
When it comes to telling your new employer, remember that your pregnancy is a personal matter.

Legally, you're not required to tell your new employer until 15 weeks before your due date, but being open early on can build trust, especially in a senior role.
When you do, focus on expressing your excitement for the role and your commitment to contributing, while also being transparent about your maternity leave plans.
As for staying in your current job to qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), that's a valid option if you've been there long enough and need the financial security.
You likely won't qualify for SMP from the new employer, but you may qualify for Maternity Allowance.

'They will not overstretch themselves again. So that has to go down to player development. Man Utd ‘enter shock talks to sign £100m-rated Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson… but must sell host of flops first'
MANCHESTER UNITED have entered talks with Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson's agent over a potential move, reports claim. But Stamford Bridge chiefs have allegedly slapped a whopping £100MILLION price tag on the 24-year-old Senegal international. 2 According to BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella, United have approached Jackson's representative Ali Barat. But for United to fund such an eye-watering move, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. need to flog some deadweight first. United's stormy finances are well-documented - as is Chelsea's long standing interest in Old Trafford outcast Alejandro Garnacho, who is valued at £70million. But manager Ruben Amorim knows just the men he wants to sell - the problem is hardly any clubs are jumping for them. United are currently focused on off-loading their five-player 'Bomb Squad', who have been forced to train alone after 5pm when the rest of the squad have left Carrington. But Amorim will be boosted by the news that Marcus Rashford is closing in on a dream move to Barcelona, after the clubs reportedly agreed a loan deal, with an option to buy. Although United prefer permanent move, Barca have allegedly agreed to cover Rashford's staggering £300,000-per-week wages. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have expressed an interest in taking Jadon Sancho off United's hands, after Chelsea paid a £5million forfeit for U-turning on their obligation to buy the winger. 2 Meanwhile, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, who both went out on six month loans to Real Betis and PSV respectively, are up for sale. Amorim have already signed Matheus Cunha in a £62.5million move from Wolves and are all set to bring Bryan Mbeumo in for £71million next week. Why Man Utd could finally shift Jadon Sancho | Transfers Exposed But the hunt for a new No.9 is ongoing, with Rasmus Hojlund clearly not the answer to United's goalscoring woes. Hojlund missed several clear cut chances during United's goalless pre-season draw with newly promoted Prem side Leeds in Stockholm on Saturday. Meanwhile, Jackson is up against some stiff competition at Stamford Bridge next season. Chelsea beat United to Ipswich striker Liam Delap 's signature, with the Blues adding proven Prem goalscorer Joao Pedro for £60million shortly after. Following Chelsea's Club World Cup glory in the USA, Jackson ended the season with 13 goals and six assists from 37 games. But 15 of those contributions came in just 30 Premier League appearances. If United were to ramp up their interest in Jackson, they would likely face competition from AC Milan, who are confident they can prize him away from the Prem.

Liverpool close in on transfer target despite £78m claims
Claims of a bid of 90million euros (£78m) being accepted for the Frenchman appear to be wide of the mark, with the two clubs still in negotiations over the fee and the structure of any transfer. Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, the PA news agency understands. But it is understood Liverpool are increasingly confident an agreement will soon be struck, with personal terms already reached with the 23-year-old, who has made a splash in the Bundesliga after last year's switch from Paris St Germain. Ekitike initially moved to Frankfurt on loan 18 months ago before completing a permanent switch in the summer and he scored 15 goals in 31 games to help the club finish third in the German top flight. Read more: His exploits attracted the attention of Newcastle, who reportedly had a £70m offer for the France Under-21 international knocked back and have subsequently seemed to have dropped out of the race. Liverpool had been weighing up a big-money move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, although with the Magpies warning he is not for sale, the Premier League champions switched focus to Ekitike. Arne Slot's side have already signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez this summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili linking up with the side after agreeing a move last August. The likely arrival of Ekitike to Anfield for another sizeable transfer fee might nudge Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa closer to the exit door as Liverpool look to balance the books. Luis Diaz is still attracting attention from Bayern Munich although the Reds have no plans to sell the Colombian.
