Johnny Vegas admits he had a 'meltdown' amid his ADHD battle as he reflects on the 'most difficult part of his life' and what saved him
has admitted he had a 'meltdown' amid his ADHD battle as the comedian, 54, opened up about the most challenging year of his life. The actor and comedian's upcoming two-part Channel 4 show sees him create a piece of art for his hometown, St. Helens, in Merseyside. However during filming, the star was rocked by a shock health diagnosis as he discovered he had ADHD. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioural condition defined by inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. And now Johnny has opened up about the 'most difficult time of his life' and how his art saved him. He told The Mirror: 'I went into meltdown, I couldn't function. It seemed insurmountable. I had to get professional help. This has been the most difficult part of my life. But the art saved me.' Explaining how the noise in his brain stops when he is working on his art he continued: 'With ADHD, when everyone else is going to bed, my brain goes, "It's just you and me now". 'It lives to work against you. But the one time the white noise stops, the one time I can focus, the one time that having ADHD is good for you is art. The world makes sense when I am working on my art.' Johnny took a year off work amid his health battle before he returned for his debut art exhibition. His new documentary, titled Johnny Vegas: Art, ADHD and Me, will see the star embark on a 'creative endeavour' that ends up being a 'journey of self-discovery'. The documentary delves into 'an honest and heartfelt conversation about mental health and understanding yourself'. Previously speaking about the new show, Johnny revealed he was once a 'dedicated wannabe ceramicist'. He said: 'I used to sit at a potter's wheel on stage. People thought it was a gimmick but I actually started out as a dedicated wannabe ceramicist. 'Art was my educational saviour. Over years of witnessing what felt like an ongoing decline in educational commitment to the very same arts I felt it was time I threw my hat back into the ring. 'To kickstart a debate about culture in general, whilst giving something of a visual a symbol of gratitude back to my honestly beloved town.' Channel 4 boss Shaminder Nahal revealed the documentary had been filmed over years and added: 'This series brings to life the power of art for everyone – how it can soothe, help, energise and inspire. 'Beautifully filmed over several years by Eddie Stafford, the series showcases Johnny's unique humour, heart and passion – uncovering the intricacies and demands of artistic process along the way. 'It's an enlightening, eye-opening and emotional journey.' WHAT IS ADHD? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioural condition defined by inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. It affects around five per cent of children in the US. Some 3.6 per cent of boys and 0.85 per cent of girls suffer in the UK. Symptoms typically appear at an early age and become more noticeable as a child grows. These can also include: Constant fidgeting Poor concentration Excessive movement or talking Acting without thinking Inability to deal with stress Little or no sense of danger Careless mistakes Mood swings Forgetfulness Difficulty organising tasks Continually starting new tasks before finishing old ones Inability to listen or carry out instructions Most cases are diagnosed between six and 12 years old. Adults can also suffer, but there is less research into this. ADHD's exact cause is unclear but is thought to involve genetic mutations that affect a person's brain function and structure. Premature babies and those with epilepsy or brain damage are more at risk. ADHD is also linked to anxiety, depression, insomnia, Tourette's and epilepsy. There is no cure. A combination of medication and therapy is usually recommended to relieve symptoms and make day-to-day life easier.

Sean ‘Diddy' Combs denied release from jail to await sentencing
Sean 'Diddy' Combs cannot go home from jail to await sentencing on his prostitution-related conviction, a judge said on Monday, denying the rap and style mogul's latest bid for bail. Combs has been behind bars since his September arrest. He faced federal charges of coercing girlfriends into having drug-fuelled sex marathons with male sex workers while he watched and filmed them. He was acquitted last month of the top charges – racketeering and sex trafficking – while being convicted of two counts of a prostitution-related offence. The conviction carries the potential for up to 10 years in prison. But there are complicated federal guidelines for calculating sentences in any given case, and prosecutors and Combs' lawyers disagree substantially on how the guidelines come out for his case. The guidelines are not mandatory, and Judge Arun Subramanian will have wide latitude in deciding Combs' punishment. The Bad Boy Records founder, now 55, was for decades a huge figure in pop culture. A Grammy-winning hip hop artist and entrepreneur with a flair for finding and launching big talents, he presided over a business empire that ranged from fashion to reality TV. Prosecutors claimed he used his fame, wealth and violence to force and manipulate two now-ex-girlfriends into days-long, drugged-up sexual performances he called 'freak-offs' or 'hotel nights'. His lawyers argued that the government tried to criminalise consensual, if unconventional, sexual tastes that played out in complicated relationships. The defence acknowledged that Combs had violent outbursts but said nothing he did came amounted to the crimes with which he was charged. Since the verdict, his lawyers have repeatedly renewed their efforts to get him out on bail until his sentencing, set for October. They have argued that the acquittals undercut the rationale for holding him, and they have pointed to other people who were released before sentencing on similar convictions. Defence lawyer Marc Agnifilo suggested in a court filing that Combs was the United States' 'only person in jail for hiring adult male escorts for him and his girlfriend'. The defence's most recent proposal included a 50 million-dollar (£37.6 million) bond and travel restrictions and expressed openness to adding on house arrest at his Miami home, electronic monitoring, private security guards and other requirements. Prosecutors opposed releasing Combs. They wrote that his 'extensive history of violence — and his continued attempt to minimise his recent violent conduct – demonstrates his dangerousness and that he is not amendable to supervision'.

Hollyoaks confirms unexpected reunion for Ste and Rex
Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) is keen to reunite with Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) in Hollyoaks next week – but not without son Lucas' (Oscar Curtis) blessing. Rex, as viewers know, targeted and groomed Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) into a world of exploitation earlier this year while working with sister Grace Black (Tamara Wall) to traffic the teens of the village. He subsequently had a change of heart and turned himself in to the police after boyfriend Ste uncovered what he did to son Lucas' boyfriend Dillon, branding his partner a 'monster'. After some persuasion from Donny Clark (Louis Emerick), Rex decides to inform on sisters Grace and Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) and next week, he's introduced to Froggy (John Middleton), shocked to realise that he's his granddad. And soon after, Rex is released from prison. Knowing he'll be public enemy number one if spotted, he hides in the shadows upon his return to the village. Ste, meanwhile, attempts to reach out to Lucas, who brushes him off, and later he's left in shock when Rex approaches him. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Despite what Rex did to Dillon – who is still very much struggling in the wake of his exploitation ordeal – it seems Ste is willing to give him another chance, but only if Lucas is receptive, reiterating that they will need to get his son's blessing. While Ste contemplates how exactly to get Lucas on side, Rex arrives at Grace's flat, much to the horror of Clare, who is in an unforgiving mood. Grace, however, is determined to turn over a new leaf and, unwilling to lose another brother, she pleads with Clare to leave Rex unharmed. Later, Ste finds Rex outside The Dog and, with Lucas out for the evening, he invites him over for tea, with the former flames spending the night together. More Trending As is always the case in this village, it doesn't take long for word to spread about Rex. When he pays a visit to The Hutch, the whole village turns against him, understandably refusing to forgive his role in the exploitation of the teens. The question is: will Ste's reunion with Rex prove controversial? How will Lucas react? Not to mention the rest of the village?
