3 Reasons Arm Holdings Is a Must-Buy for Long-Term Investors

Yahoo14-02-2025
Arm Holdings (NASDAQ: ARM) has emerged as a top AI stock following its initial public offering in September 2023. The chip design company, which specializes in power-efficient CPU architecture, seemed to be initially misunderstood by investors, but the stock has since tripled from its IPO price.
Arm's shares are expensive today, trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 47, but the stock still offers tremendous long-term potential, especially as the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) spreads. Let's take a look at three reasons why Arm is a must-own stock for long-term investors.
Arm stock got a shot in the arm (no pun intended) when the Stargate joint venture project was announced shortly after President Trump took office.
Arm was named as one of five key initial technology partners, along with Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle, and OpenAI, for the new venture, which pledges to invest at least $100 billion in new AI infrastructure. Arm already partners directly on components with Microsoft, Nvidia, and Oracle, and OpenAI uses its technology.
Softbank, which is Arm's majority owner, is also the key financial partner for the project, and Softbank's influence across the tech world shouldn't be overlooked by investors. In fact, Softbank, OpenAI, and Arm have also partnered on an AI project in Japan called Cristal Intelligence, whose goal is to develop Advanced Enterprise AI.
At the heart of Cristal Intelligence is an investment in AI agents that perform tasks without human assistance, and those agents will require increasing compute power as they scale up. That's where Arm plays a key role as its architecture is the most effective at conserving power, and that advantage will continue to drive its adoption in the AI era.
So far, the vast majority of AI spending has taken place at the data center where hyperscalers and other tech companies are spending billions on Nvidia GPUs. Arm has benefited from that growth as its Grace CPUs are in Nvidia's Grace Hopper and Grace Blackwell Superchips. It also licenses its technology to the major cloud computing companies for their own chips, including Amazon's Graviton, Microsoft Cobalt, and Google Axion.
Arm's market share in the cloud has increased from 9% to 15% in the last two years, and the market value of that opportunity has risen from $16 billion to $21 billion.
However, Arm's biggest opportunity in AI could be at the edge, meaning devices that are being used directly by consumers including handheld electronics like smartphones, automobiles, appliances, and robotics. This is Arm's traditional strength as devices that run on a battery tend to use Arm-based chips since they're better at conserving power.
Edge AI, which includes technologies like Apple Intelligence, is expected to grow significantly over the coming years, and that will favor Arm.
Arm has a unique business model in the semiconductor industry. It licenses its technology and then collects royalties when the chips containing that technology are sold. As a result, there's a lag between license revenue and royalties beginning to be earned from that license of two to three years, but royalty revenue collected from a single license can continue for over a decade.
In fact, half of Arm's current royalty revenue comes from products launched 10 years ago or more. While the company is benefiting from the AI revolution, the payoff will come over a long period of time rather than in a handful of quarters as it has for Nvidia.
Arm's revenue growth of 19% in the third quarter might seem modest for a stock with its valuation, but it's paying the way for a boom over the next decade especially as new chips like its v9 and compute subsystems (CSS) command a higher royalty rate than older chips.
Between its leading CPU architecture, relationships with cloud hyperscalers, and promising royalty pipeline, Arm is a must-own stock for the AI boom.

Microsoft valuation surges above $4 trillion as AI lifts stocks

Shares of Microsoft spiked Thursday following blowout quarterly results, lifting the tech giant into the previously unprecedented $4 trillion club along with Nvidia, another artificial intelligence standout. The landmark valuation is the latest sign of growing bullishness about an AI investment boom that market watchers believe is still in the early stages -- even as companies like Microsoft plan $100 billion or more in annual capital spending to add new capacity. Microsoft reported profit of $27.2 billion on revenue of $76.4 billion in its fiscal fourth quarter, capping another year of growth amid massive customer interest in the company's cutting-edge AI capacity. Shortly after midday, Microsoft shares were up 4.3 percent, giving it a market capitalization slightly under $4 trillion after earlier eclipsing the benchmark. "Cloud and AI is the driving force of business transformation across every industry and sector," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. "We're innovating across the tech stack to help customers adapt and grow in this new era." The results drew plaudits from Wall Street analysts on an earnings conference call at which Nadella boasted that the company had opened new data centers across six continents in the last year and touted major contracts for global companies like Nestle and Barclays. Microsoft was one of the first tech giants to double down on artificial intelligence when the launch of ChatGPT in 2022 rocked the tech industry. Microsoft has had a strategic partnership with ChatGPT maker OpenAI since 2019, holding rights to its intellectual property. At the heart of the results was a stunning 39 percent surge in Azure, the company's legacy cloud computing platform, which is getting "supercharged" with AI, said Angelo Zino, technology analyst at CFRA Research. Zino attributed "just about all of" Microsoft's recent surge in valuation to AI. - Legacy businesses - While Nvidia is part of a wave of tech companies that have risen to prominence with the AI boom of the last few years, Microsoft has long been among America's corporate elite, joining the prestigious Dow index in 1999, more than a decade after introducing the once-revolutionary Windows program. The company's revenue base includes such workplace mainstays as the Outlook email platform and the LinkedIn career website. Microsoft also has a significant gaming division with the Xbox console. All of these businesses are set to benefit from Microsoft's AI advantages. "We view (Microsoft) as kind of the enterprise king," said Zino. "What AI does is it provides new growth opportunities for this company." For all of fiscal 2025, Microsoft reported revenues of $281.7 billion, up 15 percent from the prior year. Microsoft's revenues have more than doubled from 2018, when they were $110.4 billion. Zino thinks Microsoft is poised for a comparable run over the next six or seven years when it could see annual revenue growth of 10 percent as greater use of AI creates even more opportunity. The biggest risk to this outlook -- and to the AI boom generally -- would be "if we get to the point where supply for AI exceeds demand," Zino said. "That could put pressure on pricing for cloud computing and space." jmb/jgc

Robinhood Sheds Its Meme Stock Skin, Emerges As Full-Fledged Fintech Player

Robinhood Markets, Inc. (NASDAQ:HOOD) shares moved lower on Thursday, despite delivering stronger-than-expected second-quarter results. The stock and cryptocurrency trading platform reported second-quarter revenue of $989.0 million on Wednesday, up 45% year-over-year. The revenue beat a Street consensus estimate of $898.95 million, according to data from Benzinga Pro. Several analysts have weighed in on the stock with updated price forecasts. JP Morgan's Kenneth B. Worthington reiterated a Neutral rating while raising his price forecast from $98 to $ John Todaro maintained a Buy rating and significantly lifted his price forecast from $71 to $120. Meanwhile, Cantor's Brett Knoblauch reaffirmed an Overweight rating and increased his price forecast from $100 to $118. JP Morgan's Take Worthington noted that while Robinhood delivered strong top-line results and kept operating expenses disciplined at $550 million in second quarter of 2025, the quarter also reflected the platform's growing maturity, with multiple products and business lines performing well. The analyst highlighted Robinhood's progress in moving beyond its earlier dependence on meme-stock trading and acknowledged management's solid execution, but pointed out that the platform still lags larger rivals in product breadth and scale. Additionally, he expressed caution regarding the long-term profitability of Robinhood's smaller-sized accounts. The analyst raised the fiscal year 2025 adjusted earnings per share forecast from $1.31 to $1.53. Cantor's Perspective Knoblauch highlighted that the firm's third quarter is off to a strong start, with July net deposits surpassing $6 billion and equity and options volumes expected to hit record highs amid renewed interest in meme stocks. The analyst noted that continued product innovation is driving user growth and expanding Robinhood's share of customer wallets, a trend expected to strengthen with the upcoming launch of Robinhood Banking in the fall. While shares are already up 185% year-to-date compared to the S&P 500's 8%, Knoblauch acknowledged that some investors may feel they missed the opportunity to buy in. Knoblauch projected a 6% increase in crypto volume for 2026, assuming a like-for-like comparison with Bitstamp's 2025 figures, though he expects a down year based on typical crypto market cycles. Needham's Viewpoint Todaro stated that Robinhood is performing strongly across its business, prompting an upward revision in estimates and price target. The analyst expressed increased confidence in the company's ability to drive operating leverage, raising the projected 2026 EBITDA margin to approximately 65%. Todaro also raised the forecast multiple, citing reduced regulatory risks around Robinhood's crypto offerings, including staking, tokenized assets, and prediction markets. The analyst raised the fiscal year 2025 revenue estimate to $4.342 billion from $3.941 billion. Price Action: HOOD shares are trading lower by 1.68% to $104.32 at last check Thursday.
