Don't boycott courts for flimsy reasons, HC tells advocates
Madras high court
observed recently.
A division bench of justice S M Subramaniam and justice A D Maria Clete observed that lawyers are bound to protect the interest of the litigants and the majesty of the courts. Therefore, boycotting the courts frequently for flimsy reasons or based on certain individual grievances of any lawyer cannot be appreciated under any circumstance.
The court was hearing the petition filed by R Jim seeking a direction to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to initiate disciplinary action against the erring office bearers of the Tirunelveli Bar Association.
The petitioner also alleged that the members of the association are involved in boycotts for flimsy reasons, causing inconvenience to the people who are longing to secure justice in the court of law.
The judges observed that the petitioner could not establish any wrongdoing against the office bearers of the association. In the absence of any specific complaint regarding misconduct or illegality committed by the office bearers, the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may not be in a position to initiate appropriate action.

It is needless to state that a complaint must be specific.
The judges took note of the submission of the petitioner, who stated that he is willing to give a specific complaint against the lawyers who are indulged in such illegal activities or misconduct to the Bar Council. In the event of receiving any specific complaint from the petitioner against the office bearers of the association or any practising lawyers, the Bar Council shall initiate all appropriate actions, as contemplated under the Advocates Act, 1961, and the Rules framed thereunder, including the Bar Council of India Rules, the judges directed and disposed of the petition.

'PM who travelled the most on taxpayers' money': Mahua Moitra targets Modi's five-nation tour; cites Munir-Trump meet
NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra launched a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five-nation foreign tour, questioning its diplomatic value and raising concerns about India's international standing under his leadership. In a video shared by PTI, Moitra said, 'Honourable Prime Minister has left yet again on another very long foreign tour. Few questions for the Honourable Prime Minister for the globe-trotting Prime Minister.' She questioned the effectiveness of PM Modi's diplomacy, saying, 'Mr. Prime Minister, you've probably been the one Prime Minister who's travelled the most on taxpayers' money apparently cementing India in the global world order and making sure that we are in prime position.' Referring to recent international developments, Moitra pointedly asked, 'How is it that after all your diplomatic outreach and after all of India's efforts that today the leader of the free world is openly professing love for what is known as a terror hub, is having meals with its army chief and worst of all India and Pakistan have been hyphenated together — something that was unthinkable even 10 years ago. Today the Prime Minister of India and the Prime Minister of Pakistan are being spoken of in the same breath. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? 'How is it after all your efforts Mr. Prime Minister and after the efforts of our external affairs ministry, after all diplomatic efforts, we have been unable to diplomatically isolate Pakistan?' Moitra also targeted the PM over US president Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. 'This Operation Sindoor that was carried out with much fanfare in which 140 crore Indians including all opposition parties backed you 100%, came to a ceasefire with the President of the United States announcing this was the operation of success — was the operation a failure? At what timing was it decided that a ceasefire would be called? And at whose decision was this?' She further by pointed at the ongoing international financial support for Pakistan. 'Multilateral organisations like the World Bank, like the IMF, are bailing out Pakistan with billions of dollars. In the face of them doing what they have to India, we have either been completely unable to convince them or Pakistan's just done a better job than we have.' Prime Minister Modi departed on July 2 for a five-nation tour to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.

After 15 years, PU colleges get new principals through lucky draw
Patna: In an unprecedented move, five constituent colleges of Patna University (PU) on Wednesday got their new principals not on the basis of their merit or qualifications but through a lucky draw. The new incumbents posted in different colleges of PU through a lottery draw include Nagendra Prasad Verma, a history teacher of Jai Prakash University, Chapra at Magadh Mahila College; Anil Kumar, a chemistry teacher from a UP college at Patna College; Alaka Yadav of Mahila College, Hajipur at Patna Science College and Magadh Mahila College home science teacher Suheli Mehta at Vanijya Mahavidyalay. The fifth candidate, Yogendra Kumar Varma of Patna Law College was posted as principal of the same college. All the five incumbents were earlier selected as principals on the recommendation of the Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC) following consideration of their academic qualifications and interview. Ordinarily, the posting of a principal in a college is done by the vice-chancellor of the university concerned. However, on the complaints of alleged foul play in posting of principals in some universities, governor-cum-chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan, ordered that the posing of BSUSC-recommended candidates would be done through a lottery system under the supervision of a three-member committee, headed by the vice-chancellor of the university concerned and consisting of the chancellor's representative. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo A selected candidate had even challenged this order in the Patna high court, but withdrew the petition later. In case of posting of principals in PU colleges, it was finalised by a three-member committee consisting of PU vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh , registrar Shalini and chancellor's representative Rahmat Jahan. The notification of these postings would be issued in a day or two, said PU sources. Some senior academics, however, maintained that the posting of principals in single faculty colleges should not have been done arbitrarily through lottery. Otherwise, a teacher of home science would certainly face difficulties in managing an institution of commerce and how would a chemistry teacher administer an institution specialising in humanities and social sciences, they asked. Notably, PU colleges will get principals recommended by the university service commission after a gap of about 15 years.
