THE £250,000 Lamborghini believed to have been driven by Diogo Jota in his tragic car crash has been plagued by recalls and serious safety issues.
The horror smash happened just after midnight on Thursday on a Spanish motorway near the northern town of Cerdanilla.

The Liverpool star, 28, and his younger brother André Silva, 26, died at the scene.
Sources at Lamborghini said the company believes the car is a Huracán - a luxury model often seen in the garages of football's elite.
Aces like Kyle Walker have been spotted driving the same iconic supercar.
The model is no longer in production but was one of Lamborghini's most successful cars.
Authorities are investigating whether the crash was caused by a punctured tyre that blew out.
There is no indication that any other safety issues that had been subject to recalls over recent years played a part in Jota's tragic crash.
It is also not known what specific Huracán model the footballer was driving when he crashed.
The Huracán – a £250k+ Italian supercar beloved by football stars and celebrities – was in production from 2014 to 2024 and became one of Lamborghini's best-selling vehicles, with more than 25,000 units sold globally.
The Huracán has faced safety-related recalls over the years, including headlight adjustments that could cause glare and reduce visibility, as well as a seat belt warning failure, Carscoops.com reports.
A September 2024 recall affected 39 examples of the Huracán EVO Spyder in the US.
Lamborghini admitted that a crash protection bracket — essential to the front structural member — may have been installed on the wrong side due to human error at the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory.
Diogo Jota's tragic final post revealed just hours before dying in car crash
Affected cars were built between November 20, 2023 and July 26, 2024.
That defect, reportedly discovered by a factory worker, prompted Lamborghini to block production and inspect affected cars, reports autoevolution.com.
In November 2023, Lamborghini recalled 7,805 Huracán models built between July 30, 2014 and October 30, 2023.
The issue was a function in the infotainment system which allowed drivers to adjust headlights horizontally — including into 'tourist mode' for left-hand driving — a feature not allowed under U.S. federal safety rules.
This could create glare for oncoming traffic and reduce driver visibility.
Lamborghini issued a software update to remove the feature.
Certain 2021 and 2023 Huracán Coupé and Spyder models were recalled due to an issue where the door unlatching cable's safety clip might not have been properly secured during assembly.
This raised concerns that doors could fail to open properly during an emergency.
Lamborghini Huracán's main features
LAUNCHED in 2014, the Huracán succeeded the Lamborghini Gallardo and became one of the brand's best-selling models.
Production ended in 2024, with over 25,000 units sold globally before it was replaced by the plug-in hybrid Temerario.
Here are some of the main features of the supercar:
Engine & Performance
• 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine
• Power output varies by trim, with up to 640 cv (632 hp) in the Huracán Performante
• 0–62 mph in 3.2 seconds (varies by model)
• Top speed: over 200 mph
Variants
• Huracán EVO
• Huracán Performante
• Huracán STO (Super Trofeo Omologata)
• Huracán Spyder (convertible variants available across trims)
Dimensions & Weight
• Length: Approximately 4,459 - 4,520 mm (175.6 - 178 inches).
• Width: Approximately 1,924 - 1,956 mm (75.7 - 77 inches).
• Height: Approximately 1,165 - 1,248 mm (45.9 - 49.1 inches).
• Curb weight (with fluids): Around 1,553 kg (3,423 lbs).
• Dry weight (without fluids): Can be as low as 1,339 kg (2,952 lbs)
Lamborghini advised that authorised dealers would inspect and fix the problem at no charge.
Some models produced between 2021 and early 2022 were also recalled after it was discovered the seat belt warning chime and dashboard visual indicator might not activate when the vehicle dropped below 20 km/h — a failure to meet minimum safety standards.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Lamborghini told The Sun: "We are saddened to learn of the accident that occurred in Spain involving a Lamborghini, in which Diogo and André Jota tragically lost their lives.
"In this moment of deep sorrow, we extend our heartfelt condolences to their family.
"Automobili Lamborghini awaits further information regarding the circumstances of the incident, in full respect for the people involved."
Prem ace gone
Diogo Jota's tragic passing has sent shockwaves through the footballing world.
The Liverpool and Portugal ace had only just married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso 10 days earlier and leaves behind three children.
Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, said: 'We have lost two champions.
'The passing of Diogo and André Silva is an irreparable loss for Portuguese football, and we will do everything possible to honor their legacy every day.'
Liverpool Football Club said it was 'devastated' by the news.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo paid tribute, writing: 'It doesn't make sense… I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and André.'

Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey charged with raping two women

The Metropolitan Police said the midfielder faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following alleged offences between 2021 and 2022. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said he 'denies all the charges against him', adding: 'He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.' The Ghanaian international was charged four days after leaving the North London club. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, police added. Partey is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts of rape against another. The force said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Ms Wiltshire said the 32-year-old has 'fully co-operated with the police and CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) throughout their three-year investigation'. Partey, of Hertfordshire, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said: 'Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. 'We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. 'You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@ Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 in a transfer worth around £45 million. The defensive midfielder signed for the Spanish club in 2012 and made 188 appearances – as well as going out on loan to Mallorca and Leganes. He played 35 games for the north London club in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals. Partey has also made more than 50 appearances for Ghana – including at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. He left Arsenal following the expiry of his contract on Monday.

Max Verstappen ‘clear' about ending his F1 career in a Red Bull, says team boss

Verstappen's future is under scrutiny ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix with Red Bull under-performing and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff making moves for the Dutchman. George Russell is out of contract at the end of the year but the Englishman is extremely confident he will be retained, while his team-mate, rookie Italian teenager Kimi Antonelli, also believes he will drive for Mercedes in 2026. Verstappen has a deal with Red Bull which runs until 2028, although a performance clause could activate an early release. Verstappen is third in the world championship, 61 points title leader Oscar Piastri. However, Horner said: 'Max has a contract until 2028, and he has made it quite clear that he would like to finish his career in a Red Bull car, from start to finish. That is something which is unique and special to him. 'Max has been with Red Bull since the start of his career, his success has come with Red Bull, he is a big part of our team and he has a great deal of faith in the team and the people around him. 'So, while there is always speculation and noise we all sit fairly comfortably with where we are at, and what the situation is. 'In any driver's contract there are performance clauses, and that exists for Max, too, but his intention is that he will be driving for us in 2026. The most important thing is the clarity that exists between Max and the team and that is very clear.' Verstappen is looking increasingly likely to be unseated as the sport's world champion with McLaren holding a clear advantage over the rest of the field. Horner has already declared a two-horse race between Piastri and British driver Lando Norris for the championship. Norris is 15 points behind Piastri heading into his home race at Silverstone. The McLaren drivers appear to be handling the heat of vying for the title as team-mates but it is a recipe which traditionally does not end well in Formula One. Yet, McLaren CEO Zak Brown insists their rivalry will not boil over. 'The relationship they have is fantastic,' said Brown. We have put a lot of time and effort on building the chemistry within the team and that starts with the drivers. 'You saw how they handled their collision in Canada, and how they conducted themselves after that, and I see no reason why they can't have a battle all the way to the end, remain very good team-mates, and may the best man win. I am sure they will shake hands and congratulate each other after.'

Gangland ‘Godfather' Eddie Lyons Snr bids farewell to gunned down son & kingpin pal as loyal hoods pack out funeral

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) GRIEVING Godfather Eddie Lyons Snr can't hide his pain as he says a final farewell to murdered son Eddie Jnr who was laid to rest with lifelong Lyons gang pal Ross Monaghan. The 67-year-old was surrounded by security heavies as he arrived with loved-ones for the joint funeral of two of Scotland's most notorious crime kingpins. 14 Eddie Lyons Jnr, left, and Ross Monaghan were murdered by a gunman on May 31 14 The funeral of Eddie Lyons Jr and Ross Monaghan took place today 14 Gangland boss Eddie Lyons Snr pictured leaving the funeral Lyons, 46, and Monaghan, 43, were given a final send-off this afternoon - one month after they were gunned down in a Spanish boozer amid Scotland's raging turf wars. The solemn occasion came days after we revealed authorities in Spain had handed over the pair's bodies to relatives for repatriation. Hundreds of friends, family and underworld figures gathered at Bishopbriggs Crematorium in north Glasgow to show respect to Monaghan and Lyons Jnr - brother of Dubai-based mob boss Steven Lyons, 44. One onlooker said: 'Eddie looked like a broken man. He was pale and had to be led into the crematorium by a security team. 'His son was murdered and Ross was as good as his boy. 'The service was touching and, at times, funny. But nobody should forget just how dangerous Monaghan and Lyons were. 'They'd have just as keenly seen their rivals' parents cry at their funerals.' As early arrivals streamed to the venue a white van was seen dropping off elaborate floral tributes that read 'Friend', 'Nephew', 'Uncle' and 'brother'. 14 Hundreds of friends, family and underworld figures are gathering for the funeral 14 The order of service 'Celebrating the lives of Ross Monaghan & Edward Lyons' 14 Mourners carrying the coffins into Bishopbriggs Crematorium 14 Lyons associate Liam Boyle, pictured centre A violinist stood at the entrance playing the moving theme tune to the movie Braveheart as scores of mourners began arriving shortly before the 3pm send-off. Dozens of flash cars and SUVs, many with blacked-out privacy glass windows, poured into the car park with many more left outside in the street as huge numbers flocked to the service. Spanish cops insist hitman who executed Ross Monaghan & Eddie Lyons Jr killer WAS member of rival Daniel clan Security guards were roped in to keep a close eye on proceedings amid months of raging tit-for-tat violence between Scotland's rival crime clans. Two silver hearses arrived carrying the murdered duo's bodies with a Range Rover driving ahead and a family fleet of Mercedes following on. Close pal and Lyons associate Liam Boyle, 44, could be seen in the family cars with visibly distraught relatives of the men who both had wreaths saying 'dad' and 'son' placed in their respective hearses. Another flourish of white roses spelling the name 'Ross' could be also seen resting beside Monaghan's mahogany coffin as the vehicles slowly approached around 400 mourners waiting for the service to begin. Associates of the pair dressed in black appeared to form a guard of honour, standing in two lines as the cars approached the main building. The service was delayed briefly, given the huge number of cars pouring into the car park to say a final farewell to the infamous pair. An order of service with a Celtic-style engraving was handed out to mourners showing close pals Monaghan - sporting a greying red beard - and Lyons grinning for a photo taken in happier times. A quote from the Coldplay song Everglow was used in tribute to Monaghan, reading: 'Oh, they say people come, say people go. This particular diamond was extra special.' Pictures were included beside the ode dubbed 'Our Hero' that showed Monaghan wearing shades, enjoying a pint of Guinness and sharing a precious moment with his children. A gallery of pictures in tribute to Eddie included a snap with his dad when he was just a baby. It read: 'We hold your heart in our hearts. We love you always forever.' The mournful hit tune Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve played through speakers amid sombre summer rain as grieving relatives made their way inside the crematorium building. Eddie Lyons Snr, 67, was seen huddling closely with loved-ones as the coffins were carried inside to make their final journey. The coffins were placed side-by-side as dozens of mourners squeezed into the main building where many stood in the aisles with every seat taken. The service was streamed to a screen outside where hundreds more listened in silence with many sheltering from the downpour under umbrellas. 14 Tributes to Ross Monaghan in the order of service, featuring a lyric from Coldplay's Everglow 14 Loving family tributes to Eddie Lyons Jr 14 Floral tributes left outside the crematorium after the joint funeral The service heard the lifelong pals were born in the same hospital and formed a bond that would last until their final days. A eulogy described the impact their deaths have had on their loved ones, saying: 'For these two families, that grieving process has begun. 'This can be like the ocean. Some days it might be calm and they can almost cope. Other days it will threaten to overwhelm them and drown them. 'Everyone in this room has been touched by Edwards and Ross in some way. Let's take a few moments to remember them and in our hearts recall once more the things about each of us that they loved and admired and cherished about them. 'The sons, brothers, husbands, dads, cousins and the loyal and trusted friends.' The bodies were then interred to a cover version of the song Forever Young as a montage of personal photos showing Monaghan and Lyons as loved-ones will remember them most. Eddie Snr and close family members then left to the waiting motors with private security guards by their side as they left the funeral venue. We told how Lyons Jnr and Monaghan met their end after watching the Champions League Final in Monaghans, Fuengirola, on Saturday May 31. In the wake of the killings, associates of the Irish Kinahan cartel leaders gave their support to the families and promised them: 'We'll get this sorted.' Allies of fugitive kingpin Daniel Kinahan had also told grieving loved ones they intended to pay their respects at the funerals of the executed hoods. 14 Monaghans bar in Fuengirola, Spain where the two hoods were assassinated. 14 CCTV captured the moment a gunman pursued Monaghan inside the death boozer. We told how Monaghan was key in helping to cement the Glasgow-based Lyons' ties with the Kinahans, who have a £4million bounty on their heads in the US. A relative told The Scottish Sun: 'The family have had a few phone calls from them to say, 'Sorry for your loss'.' We told how alleged hitman Michael Riley is to fight extradition. The 44-year-old, of Huyton, Liverpool, appeared last month at Westminster Magistrates Court as part of a bid to have him shipped to Spain. Riley's full extradition hearing will be in October and is expected to last all day. The Lyons gang kingpins were drinking in Monaghans bar when they were gunned down in front of staff and revellers. A hooded assassin was captured on CCTV storming the boozer and shooting both men dead in a targeted double hit. We told how cops in Spain and Scotland gave conflicting information over who is believed to have ordered the slayings. Police Scotland first insisted they had 'no intelligence' to suggest the murders were connected to an ongoing turf war here. However, their Spain counterparts later said the man they want extradited over the killings was 'an internal member of the rival Daniel gang'. We told how a captured mobile phone holds the key to proving the alleged assassination is linked to their Daniel gang rivals, sources claim. Insiders say it contains data allegedly linking Riley to Daniel hoods who Spanish detectives reckon are behind the massacre. Career criminal Monaghan – who fled Scotland for Spain after a failed attempt on his life in 2017 – was tried but acquitted over the murder of notorious Glasgow hood Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll at an Asda car park in 2010. In August 2017, he and Lyons Jr, both members of the Lyons Glasgow crime family, were cleared of being involved in a brutal street attack on three men outside the Campsie bar in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow. The murders happened in the thick of a gang war in Scotland involving associates of caged kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, and his allies in the Daniel clan - the Lyons' arch-enemies. Dubai-based hood Ross 'Miami' McGill and a group known as Tamo Junto have been targeting Richardson's associates and Daniel's family members. 14 Ross 'Miami' McGill, a former Union Bears ultra, is waging war on associates of Mark Richardson
