Canadiens sign prospect Vinzenz Rohrer to entry-level contract
The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Vinzenz Rohrer to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Saturday.
The 20-year-old Austrian has spent the last two seasons with the Zurich Lions in the Swiss National League.
Rohrer had 25 points (15 goals, 10 assists) in 52 appearances in his second season with the team. He added seven points (one goal, six assists) in 16 post-season games in helping the Lions capture their second consecutive league title.
Rohrer also represented Austria at the world hockey championship, where he had six points (four goals, two assists) in eight games. Austria was eliminated in the quarterfinals by eventual runner-up Switzerland.
Before joining the Lions, Rohrer played two seasons with the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League, amassing 97 points (44 goals, 53 assists) in 118 games from 2021 to 2023.
The Habs selected Rohrer in the third round (75th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Tom Lynagh to start at flyhalf for the Wallabies against the British and Irish Lions
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Tom Lynagh will start at flyhalf for Australia against the Lions in the series-opening test on Saturday, 36 years after his famous father wore the Wallabies No. 10 jersey against the combined British and Irish team. Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt announced his squad Thursday to take on the Lions and was forced into some lineup changes after the narrow win over Fiji. The 22-year-old Lynagh will start his fourth test match in a new halves combination with Jake Gordon in the biggest moment of his short international career. 'With the short runway leading up to such a big test match, we know we must adapt fast and improve quickly from the performance we had against Fiji,' Schmidt said. 'We're very much aware of the occasion and conscious of earning the support from the public through the effort they see on the field.' The Lions won the series 2-1 on their last tour to Australia in 2013, avenging a 2-1 series loss to the Wallabies in 2001. Michael Lynagh was part of the Australian team that lost the 1989 series 2-1 to the Lions, and he went on to help guide the Wallabies to a World Cup triumph in 1991. His son was born in Italy, went to school in England and moved in 2021 to Australia, where he has flourished at the Queensland Reds and earned three test caps. There was a vacancy at No. 10 after Noah Lolesio was injured against Fiji. Tom Lynagh will be the first Wallaby to follow in his father's footsteps in playing against the Lions. Nick Champion de Crespigny will make his starting debut as blindside flanker and hooker Matt Faessler has won a spot in the XV in changes to the lineup. Lions coach Andy Farrell was set to unveil his squad later Thursday in a downtown Brisbane hotel. The Lions are 5-0 ahead of the three-test series since a 28-24 loss to Argentina in a warmup in Dublin. They had wins over all of Australia's Super Rugby franchises before Saturday's 48-0 demolition of an AUNZ invitational XV comprising Australians and New Zealanders in Adelaide. The Lions landed in Australia last month and have beaten Western Force in Perth, Queensland Reds in Brisbane, New South Wales Waratahs in Sydney and the Brumbies in Canberra. The second test is set for July 26 in Melbourne, followed by Sydney on Aug. 2. ___ Squads: Australia: Tom Wright, Max Jorgensen, Joseph-Aukuso Sua'ali'i, Len Ikitau, Harry Potter, Tom Lynagh, Jake Gordon; Harry Wilson (captain), Fraser McReight, Nick Champion de Crespigny, Jeremy Williams, Nick Frost, Allan Ala'alatoa, Matt Faessler, James Slipper. Reserves: Billy Pollard, Angus Bell, Tom Robertson, Tom Hooper, Carlo Tizzano, Tate McDermott, Ben Donaldson, Andrew Kellaway. ___ AP rugby:

Canadiens announce full schedule for 2025-26 season
The Montreal Canadiens will open their season as they usually do, against Toronto in early October, and finish the season at Philadelphia on April 14. The National Hockey League released its full schedule on Wednesday, and in the tradition of National Football League teams, the Canadiens published a video they thought was funny to go along with it. The Canadiens' video shows general manager Kent Hughes and executive vice-president Jeff Gorton pointing fingers at the other for failing to create a fun video on time, including ideas such as having Juraj Slafkovsky read out all 82 games in ASMR style , or a Minecraft-style video , or an infinite zoom . Realizing they don't have a video, Gorton says 'this is an emergency' prompting Canadiens emergency backup goaltender Patrick Chèvrefils, a Montreal cop, to introduce the schedule and sit while it scrolls on screen. The season begins Oct. 8 in Toronto, with the home opener Tuesday, Oct. 14 vs. the Seattle Kraken. The big road trips are Oct. 22-28 in the northwest, Nov. 26-29 in Utah, Vegas and Colorado, March 3-7 in California, March 28 to April 4 in the eastern U.S., and the annual holiday road trip from Dec. 21 to Jan. 4. The schedule also includes a break in February for the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy, where NHL players will be playing for their countries. This means there will not be the usual Super Bowl weekend matinée games at the Bell Centre. All 41 Bell Centre games will start at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. The Canadiens will play Atlantic Division opponents four times each, except for Florida and Detroit (three times each), Metropolitan Division teams three times each, and Western Conference teams twice each. Broadcast details will be announced later this summer, but national games, including Saturday and Wednesday evening games, will be broadcast by Sportsnet, some Monday games by Amazon Prime Video, and the rest by TSN2.
