For quite a few enthusiasts, a dream ride is an R34 GT-R, which must be how this little shop in Dubai is doing so well. Called Kanzen Motorsports, it modifies and restores not only R34s but R32s, R33s, and R35s as well as other JDM performance rides.Kanzen is a mechanical shop, not a body shop, so owners send their JDM cars from around the world there to have power-boosting and other performance-enhancing modifications installed.
When it comes to modifications, the owner tells YouTuber and automotive photographer Larry Chen the preference is to source new parts from the NISMO Heritage Parts program.
When that isn't an option, because not every component is available that way, the shop will clean up, then powder coat the originals. The result is an incredibly clean car that honestly looks better than when it first rolled out of the factory.
For those wanting a body kit installed or other cosmetic modifications as well, Kanzen does outsource that work, monitoring progress from its partner body shops.
Considering Kanzen is situated in a city well-known for its crazy number of supercars and hypercars, it might seem odd for it to focus on JDMs. After all, while there is a following, the perception is there isn't as much money to be made on them versus working on more exotic European rides.
But the shop seems to be doing well enough, thanks to its global reputation for quality work, which is only growing with time.
This shows that the JDM enthusiasm has spread well beyond Japan. People who are into that automotive subculture have been well aware of this trend for a while now, but for enthusiasts more focused on American muscle, European supercars, or other niches that might comes as a surprise.
If you're a JDM fan and in particular love Godzillas, this tour of Kanzen by Larry Chen is going to wow and inspire you, so check it out.

In China, Sedans Still Thrive

We all know how much the Chinese market shapes the global automotive landscape. Any changes have an immediate impact on the rest of the auto world. Not only does China lead the race to electrification, but the country is also making great strides in technologies like advanced driver assistance, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving. But even as China races to market with new innovations and even more exciting product, one thing remains unchanged: Sedans still rule. Even though the sedan has been largely overshadowed in by SUVs in markets like the US and Europe, the traditional four-door family car is still a huge success in China. Without that success, sedans might have already disappeared from the road entirely. Half of Global Sales According to research on global car sales in 2024, China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) accounted for over 50 percent of the world's sedan sales, with 7.89 million units (+1%). Despite modest growth, the sedan is still considered a status symbol among Chinese drivers, which is why nearly all Chinese manufacturers still produce them, unlike many European and American counterparts. The second largest market for sedans was the USA / Canada with 2.63 million units (+1%). Europe, surprisingly, is only in fifth place, behind the Middle East (1.15 million, including Iran) and Latin America (921,000). European consumers have always preferred hatchbacks, station wagons, and, of course, SUVs. Top 10 Markets for Sedans In 2024 Country Percentage of Cars Sold Are Sedans Algeria 60% Algeria 48% Egypt 47% Saudi Arabia 46% Iran 46% Azerbaijan 41% Malaysia 36% Bahrain 33% China 33% Tajikistan 33% Toyota Remains on Top Among manufacturers, Toyota maintains its leadership in the segment with nearly 2 million sedans sold in 2024. The Camry and Corolla models remain very popular, but the growth of Toyota's SUVs has negatively impacted sedan sales, which fell by 7 percent last year. Volkswagen Group also saw a decline of 4 percent, with 1.82 million units. In contrast, Chinese brands show massive growth: BYD is third with 1.51 million sedans sold (+78%), Geely is seventh with 919,000 units (+36%), while Changan and Chery increased volumes by 19 percent (312,000 units) and 60 percent (298,000 units), respectively. This "American Mind Can't Comprehend" Tweet Spiraled Out Of Control

Let's talk about those "European mind can't comprehend" and "American mind can't comprehend" tweets we've been posting for literal years now. They're about the size of our sodas. They're about our wild temperature changes. And there's a ton about our beloved PB&J sandwiches <3<3 Welllllll, a new one kind of spiraled out of control. It all started with @EdisonCarterN23 posting a picture of a tiny Fiat with the caption: "The American mind can't comprehend that 80% of car trips could be taken in a car like this." Then @FetusberryJam clapped back with: "the european mind cannot comprehend driving four hours and still being in the same state." That's when people from around the world got involved. This Canadian posted that you can drive for 23 hours in the province of Ontario: This Australian pointed out that you can drive for 29 hours without leaving the same state: This person pointed out you can drive for days and still be in Norway: Another person said you drive for 16 hours in Finland: Another from Australia: We have New Zealand clocking in at just over a day: 2 days for India: 2 hours to cross continets from Europe to Africa: It's almost 8 hours for Portugal: 20 hours in Sweden! Over two days for Chile: And here's one of the Roman Empire: Then, there are the jokes: "You can fly 16.5hrs in France and still be in France. The American mind cannot comprehend this," one person said. "Dude, you can drive 4 hours and still be stuck in London," another person said. And we have: "You can drive for 5 years in Scotland and still hit the same potholes." Lastly, it wouldn't be one of these posts without a bit of light American shade: "The American mind cannot comprehend not needing a car to do literally fucking anything." "American mind cannot comprehend fuel efficiency, safety, and making their cars not the size of a small house," another person chimed in. And laaastly: "'The european mind cannot comprehend-' i don't want to. i never want to comprehend anything american. thank god i was born in europe."

F1 Faces Backlash Over Environmental Impact of Madrid Street Circuit

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Formula One announced the construction of Madrid's Grand Prix street circuit, Madring, in April, set to be part of the calendar in 2026. However, aggrieved residents are opposing the construction of the circuit due to its impact on the environment. A protest is also scheduled for July 21, calling out the "felling, pruning, and transplanting of trees" that is being carried out to develop the circuit. The Madring replaces F1's iconic Imola next year, becoming the only European city to host a Grand Prix with the backing of the City Council and the Community of Madrid. The circuit spans 5.4 km, sporting 22 corners. While that might sound very interesting to Grand Prix enthusiasts, residents affected by construction activities and the event's potential environmental risk are not having it. An Instagram account by the name 'stopF1madrid,' linked to a website has firmly stated that "our neighborhoods are not a circuit," calling out the reported noise pollution the Grand Prix will generate, and the burden of a high carbon footprint that will reportedly be left behind. The movement comprises residents of affected neighborhoods, neighborhood associations, and representatives of political groups from the municipal opposition. The site stated: Arch to promote the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Madrid Car Experience, Madrid's motor show, at the Feria de Madrid Ifema, on 25 May, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. From May 22 until May 26, arrives... Arch to promote the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Madrid Car Experience, Madrid's motor show, at the Feria de Madrid Ifema, on 25 May, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. From May 22 until May 26, arrives at Ifema the car show to see the latest news and bets of the brands in an environment of entertainment, music and gastronomy. More"We want to stop MADRING. "A project that will only generate noise and mobility problems for thousands of homes in the Hortaleza district and surrounding IFEMA, as well as for educational centers and workers in the area. "Each Grand Prix generates a massive carbon footprint: more than 10 tons of CO2 are emitted per race." 700 trees are claimed to have "disappeared." Residents have highlighted three main problems from the Madring: 1. Extremely strong noise and air pollution "The preliminary studies themselves conclude that the circuit will generate noise levels far exceeding the legally permitted levels, and will also be a major source of air pollutants. In fact, for the F1 to be held, the City Council must temporarily suspend the ordinance on permissible noise levels." 2. Major inconvenience and problems for the neighbors "There are even plans to force those most affected to leave their homes while the races are taking place. Five months of construction work per year during the ten years the circuit will be open (three months of assembly, race days, and testing, plus a month and a half of dismantling) will be a real ordeal, not to mention the resulting mobility problems, disruption to public transport, and congestion." 3. Destruction of green spaces "Up to 700 trees have disappeared, in addition to the occupation of a livestock trail." Residents have also signed an online petition, calling for the stoppage of the Grand Prix at Madring. A thread on Reddit pointed out the anti-F1 protests over the felling of olive trees that were centuries old. Some reactions from the users are stated below: This user says nobody asked for a Madrid street circuit: "Good, F1 fans didn't ask for this track either. Nothing but support for the people over at r/Madrid." Comment byu/gabagoolafficionado from discussion informula1 Another user asked an important question: "The fans don't want a Madrid street circuit, the locals don't want a Madrid street circuit, the drivers don't want a Madrid street circuit. So who is this ACTUALLY for" [sic] Comment byu/gabagoolafficionado from discussion informula1 This user won't be watching the race in Madrid: "That's disgraceful. Might not watch this GP." Comment byu/gabagoolafficionado from discussion informula1 This user pointed out a similar concern. Should racing be limited to the circuits only? "One of Brazil's Stock Car street circuit races was cancelled because of the same reason. Totally valid IMO. How can you push for carbon neutrality when your sport is responsible for destroying nature." Comment byu/gabagoolafficionado from discussion informula1 F1 has been striving to become carbon-neutral by 2030. But with the scheduled protest against the race at Madring, it remains to be seen if the sport will be willing to address the concerns of residents affected by the project.
