the shows
The audience on the final night watched the Egyptian play 'Profile', performed by the "Layali Al-Masri" troupe. Nahed El-Tahan wrote the play, Enas Al-Masri provided dramaturgy and direction, and actors Mai Reda and Nashwa Mohammed performed.
A fusion of mythology and literature
The play presents an imaginative meeting between Medea—a mythological Greek figure who exacted brutal revenge on her unfaithful husband—and Amina, a character from Naguib Mahfouz's 'Cairo Trilogy'. In this portrayal, Amina is reimagined as a modern Egyptian woman who accepts her difficult life, dedicating herself to her family and running a TikTok cooking channel as a means of livelihood.
Differing views on marriage
The encounter between Medea and Amina, separated by centuries, highlights contrasting perspectives on marriage. Medea embodies anger and vengeance in response to betrayal, while Amina values preserving her home and caring for her daughters, overlooking her husband's marriage to another woman in his quest for a son.
Enriched performance
Staged in a realistic setting, the performance relied on dialogue to draw out the ideological divide between the two women. Video projections illustrated Medea's mythical journey from the sun to Earth and reflected Amina's engagement with social media. Music and sound effects helped transition between scenes and added emotional depth to specific moments.
Critical session
A post-performance critical session, moderated by Egyptian theatre artist Fady Nashat, saw participants commend the efforts of the team and the play's ambition in addressing the societal status of women.
Diverse programme
The eighth edition of the Dibba Al Hisn Duo Theatre Festival, which began on Friday, 23 May, featured five theatrical productions, including 'Profile'. Other performances included '17 Hours' by Sharjah National Theatre, 'Individual Salvation' by Syria's Tajamu Ashjar troupe, 'Life and Dream' by Morocco's Al-Shamat Theatre, and 'To Prepare a Boiled Egg ' by Kuwait Theatre. The festival also hosted the 20th Sharjah Arab Theatre Forum and held three workshops for school theatre facilitators in directing, scenography, and puppetry.
A festival founded to foster theatrical exchange
Established in 2016, the Dibba Al Hisn Duo Theatre Festival was launched in response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of expanding and diversifying theatrical activity in the emirate and building bridges of communication and knowledge exchange between Emirati and Arab theatre professionals.

12 ultra-luxe timeless pieces to invest in to wear now and forever

There is something undeniably magnetic about the way old money dresses—an effortless sophistication that whispers rather than shouts. This aesthetic, once the exclusive domain of generational wealth, has found an unlikely new audience: Gen Z. On TikTok, the hashtag #OldMoney has amassed over 2.5 billion views, with related tags like #OldMoneyAesthetic and #OldMoneyOutfits pulling in nearly a billion more. But this is not merely a fascination with wealth. It is a cultural shift, a rejection of excess in favor of restraint, and a longing for permanence in an era of disposable trends. To understand why this style resonates so deeply today, we must first trace its origins. The roots of old money dressing stretch back centuries, to the aristocratic circles of Europe where clothing was less about fashion and more about legacy. Families like the Rothschilds and the Windsors built wardrobes designed to last—Savile Row suits, cashmere sweaters softened by decades of wear, pearls passed down through generations. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bally (@bally) Their style was never loud; it was deliberate, understated, and above all, enduring. Across the Atlantic, American dynasties like the Rockefellers and the Kennedys adopted a similar approach. Think of Jackie Kennedy's pillbox hats, JFK's perfectly rumpled polo shirts, or the quiet glamour of Grace Kelly. These were not outfits assembled for a season but for a lifetime. What makes this aesthetic so compelling now is not just its association with wealth but its inherent rejection of modern fashion's excesses. In an age of fast fashion and viral micro-trends, the old money ethos offers an antidote: quality over quantity, subtlety over spectacle, timelessness over transience. The rise of 'quiet luxury' in pop culture, from the understated power dressing in Succession to Sofia Richie's wedding wardrobe has only amplified its appeal. This is not about flaunting wealth but embodying a quieter, more assured kind of elegance. Economic uncertainty has also played a role in this shift. With inflation and housing crises making traditional markers of success feel increasingly out of reach, Gen Z has turned to style as a form of aspirational expression. Unable to buy into the old money lifestyle, they are embracing its aesthetic, often through secondhand and vintage finds. View this post on Instagram A post shared by LOEWE (@loewe) The principles of old money style are deceptively simple. Fabric is paramount. Wool, silk, cashmere, and linen, nothing synthetic or fleeting. The color palette leans on neutrals: creams, navy, camel, and black, ensuring every piece can be worn interchangeably. Tailoring is non-negotiable; even the most basic white shirt looks elevated when it fits perfectly. Logos are absent, because true luxury does not need to announce itself. And perhaps most tellingly, the real old money move is shopping as if your wardrobe is already an heirloom—opting for vintage, secondhand, and pieces that will outlast trends. Swipe for finds that nail the 'old money' aesthetic The true power of this style lies in its accessibility. You don't need a trust fund to dress with intention—you just need to understand that real luxury isn't about what you spend, but how you choose. And in that sense, the old money aesthetic might be the most democratic form of luxury we have left. – For more on how to look smart and live smarter, follow Emirates Man on Facebook and Instagram Images: Supplied & Featured Image: Pinterest

Abu Dhabi's CMA and Fingerprint Media sign deal to boost Arabic productions

The three-year collaboration will boost the local Abu Dhabi production slate by an average of two projects per year and source a minimum of 50 per cent of crew from the local ecosystem to facilitate the Arabic productions. Abu Dhabi's Creative Media Authority (CMA) has entered a three-year strategic partnership with Fingerprint Media Production, the content company founded by director Dr Morcous Adel and actor-producer Eyad Nassar, to advance Arabic-language film and television production in the emirate. The agreement aims to strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as a regional hub for Arabic content, with a plan to deliver two new productions per year and draw at least 50% of crew from the local talent pool. It also includes two Arabic industry workshops annually, two work experience placements each year for young creatives, and three full-time roles created under the partnership. CMA will support the initiative through the Abu Dhabi Film Commission's rebate scheme, offering a minimum of 35% back on eligible spend, and provide office space at Yas Creative Hub. Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, said: 'We are focused on delivering extensive strategic partnerships with leading Arabic content producers, including Fingerprint Media Production, from across the region as these will drive increasing production in Abu Dhabi and ensure sustained growth for our creative industries.' Khalid Khouri, Director of Industry Development at Creative Media Authority, added: 'One of our key focuses is to ensure a year-round slate of production from Arabic production teams as we work to ensure Arabic TV and cinematic content utilises all that Abu Dhabi has to offer. This collaboration with Fingerprint Media will contribute to enhancing Abu Dhabi's appeal to attract more Arab films and series. Over the next three years, we will witness six Egyptian productions being filmed in Abu Dhabi.' Fingerprint Media, known for creating impactful Arabic narratives, has already wrapped production on Misuse, a six-part anthology drama filmed in Abu Dhabi. The show explores societal challenges such as privacy, love, family and the dangers of technology and social media misuse. Each episode features a different story, director, and cast, including notable Arab actors such as Eyad Nassar, Heidi Karam, Haggag Abdel Azim and Rasha Mahdi. Director and producer Dr Morcous Adel, owner of Fingerprint Media Production, commented: 'Our operation is built on creativity and collaboration and our new partnership with the Creative Media Authority in Abu Dhabi is aligned with our core foundation. We look forward to shooting many more projects from Abu Dhabi as the support we receive in terms of the rebate from the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, the creative ecosystem, the choice of on-ground talent, government support and expertise – and of course – the variety of filming locations is very favourable and unrivalled in the region.' Stars actor and producer Eyad Nassar, owner of Fingerprint Media Production, noted: 'After the success of filming our latest drama series in Abu Dhabi, we have experienced firsthand the support and infrastructure which exists in the emirate and we look forward to creating more content to delight Arabic audiences from our new base.'
