BBC Wimbledon fans slam 'terrible' commentary and demand presenter axed

Wimbledon came to a close this weekend, with the BBC airing the last of the finals.
The men's singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz was a particular highlight, attracting intense scrutiny online.
Andrew Castle was in the commentary box for the match, having been one of the main voices of the broadcaster's coverage of the biggest event on the tennis calendar.

Castle, now 61, was one of the UK's best, previously holding the title of Britain's No. 1.
Today, he's known for his commentary for the BBC coverage of Wimbledon, but his verbal asides aren't to everybody's liking.
Taking to social media, one viewer commented: "Why oh why do the BBC put Andrew Castle on lead commentary for the Men's Singles final every year, he's terrible. My ears have already start to bleed."
Another added: "Massive build up to this #WimbledonFinal and then BBC put Andrew Castle on commentary. Way to kill the match for me before it even starts."
"Wow Andrew Castle is so bad he is already trending internationally," noted a fan.
"Heart sinks when I hear the words '... and your commentator is Andrew Castle'. Ruins enjoyment of every match. @BBCSport needs to cut the chord," said another.
One fan said: "Andrew Castle being given such an important role in this final after all of the complaints about him in the semi is embarrassing. He really adds zilch to the commentary booth."
Sinner and Iga Swiatek celebrated their respective first Wimbledon wins at the Champions' Dinner on Sunday night.
Sinner is now a four-time Grand Slam winner, having also won the Australian Open in back-to-back years in addition to last year's US Open.
Women's world No3 Swiatek crowned her best-ever run on grass with a maiden SW19 victory on Saturday afternoon.
During the celebrations, Sinner joked: 'That's a problem. I'm not really good at dancing. But come on… I can handle it.'

Journalist '90%' CERTAIN with bombshell Alexander Isak update

Liverpool do want to sign Alexander Isak this summer but saw a bid rejected on Friday. Here's the latest. Liverpool have wanted to sign Alexander Isak this summer. They've had that plan since January, in fact, with the Swede viewed as their ultimate addition up top. The question has always been whether Newcastle United were willing to sell. At first it looked like they would but then the Magpies qualified for UEFA Champions League football. LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Isak, however, has pushed for the move, somewhat forcing Newcastle's hand and prompting a bid from Liverpool on Friday. It was rejected, though. Liverpool offered shy of £120m for the forward, with Newcastle rejecting it swiftly. Now there's a difficult position for everyone. Newcastle have an unhappy star player, Liverpool have no alternative, and Isak wants out. Sky Sports' Keith Downie has the latest on the situation as the story keeps on moving. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Alexander Isak's future One massive factor in play here is that Newcastle don't have a replacement ready. Their best shot at one is Benjamin Sesko, who appears near-certain to leave RB Leipzig this summer. Manchester United are also interested, however, and if he were to move there, Newcastle are left without any Isak successor. It's difficult to imagine them selling in that scenario, given the money would be largely worthless if there's no one to spend it on. Downie essentially says this is the situation. If Sesko picks Newcastle, Isak almost certainly leaves the club.

Liverpool AGREE transfer fee; Green light on five-year contract

Liverpool have agreed a transfer fee after the player gave a green light on a five year contract. He'll now fly out to complete the move. Liverpool continue to do unprecedented levels of business in this transfer window. They've already signed a wealth of players to reshape their first-team squad and certainly aren't finished. Alexander Isak is the dream arrival, even if Newcastle United rejected a formal approach on Friday. It's thought the Reds will wait and see what happens rather than try to force that one going forward. Shop the LFC Store LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Liverpool need to move players on, many of whom have already been replaced or don't have an obvious future with the club. Darwin Nunez is heavily linked with an exit, while Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott could be off. It's not clear whether Ben Doak will remain on the books, either, and Ibrahima Konate's expiring contract casts his future into doubt. One player does have a clear future, however, after Liverpool agreed a fee. Tyler Morton set to join Lyon There have been strong reports in recent days that Lyon wanted to sign Tyler Morton. L'Équipe now claims that deal is fully agreed. Lyon will pay €10 million in base fee, plus up to €5 million in add-ons. It's a relatively low price but after Morton barely played last season, an understandable one. Morton has already agreed to a five-year contract with the French side. He'll now fly out there to have a medical and formally sign his deal.

Jenna Ortega goes all out in goth glamour while promoting 'Wednesday' Season 2

'Wednesday' Season 2, Part 1 will be released on Netflix on Aug. 6. When it comes to gothic style, Jenna Ortega knows best. While promoting Wednesday Season 2 in Paris and the U.K. this week, Ortega stepped out in an array of high-fashion looks that exuded gothic glamour. With the help of Enrique Melendez, Ortega's celebrity stylist of 14 years, the Wednesday star has consistently been clad in couture, with fashion houses like Vivienne Westwood, Givenchy, Ashi Studio and Elena Velez lending dramatic garments for the occasion. 'I definitely feel like I have a bit more Gothic taste than I did when I was a teenager,' Ortega previously told Harper's Bazaar of her evolving style. 'I've always been into dark things or been fascinated by them, but I was a Disney kid, and the whole thing is being bubbly and kind and overly sweet.' That Ortega is once again serving up sartorial perfection — without leaning into convention — should come as no surprise. It seems no fabric is off-limits to the 22-year-old actress when curating her hauntingly romantic wardrobe: Snakeskin-printed latex and strands of blonde-dyed hair play just as crucial a role as Victorian ruffles and delicate lace when it comes to bringing her eerily elegant style to life. Ortega's propensity for dark femininity also comes through in her now-signature makeup look: a soft smoky eye and bleached brows. Below, here's everything she's worn so far during her press tour for Wednesday Season 2, which premieres on Netflix on Aug. 6. Ortega's latest look is the mauve Vivienne Westwood gown with a plunging ruffled neckline that she wore to the Wednesday Season 2 premiere in Paris on July 31. The romantic design was cinched by a sheer corset with exposed boning. On Thursday, while continuing to promote the show in Paris, Ortega debuted a daring garment from Elena Velez's fall 2025 'Leech' collection: a plunging, slinky beige frock covered in blonde strands of hair. For the London premiere on Wednesday, Ortega stepped out in a sheer, pale yellow frock from Ashi Studios' fall collection. The couture garment was made of snakeskin-printed latex and featured a body-hugging bodice, high-neck collar and frayed edges. Archival Donna Karan? Count us in. The same night of the London premiere, Ortega was spotted in a silky, champagne-hued gown from DKNY's resort 2004 collection. While in London, Ortega put an edgy spin on suiting in a subtly striped charcoal suit from Ann Demeulemeester's fall 2025 collection. The actress posted the ensemble to her Instagram on Tuesday. Ortega kicked off the Wednesday press tour with a sculptural number by Givenchy: a leather bullet bra with exaggerated sleeves, padded gloves and a long, high-waisted skirt. She sported the look during the show's launch party at London's Natural History Museum on Sunday. Solve the daily Crossword
