‘When you know that your coach is backing you…': Indian pacer Akash Deep on coach Gautam Gambhir's backing

With the Shubman Gill-led Indian team taking a 180-run first innings lead against England in the second Test at Edgbaston, Mohammed Siraj's six-wicket spell coupled with Akash Deep's four-wicket haul was the highlight of the day for the Indian team. With India leading by 244 runs with nine wickets in hand in their second innings, India will once again look towards Siraj and Akash Deep to make dents in England's batting once the target is set. Pacer Akash Deep, who picked up four wickets in England's first innings, talked about how coach Gautam Gambhir motivated him to give his best.
'He (Gautam Gambhir) kept sharing his experience with me. What a player needs from a coach in terms of confidence, he has given me. And his confidence in me only has reflected in this match. When you know that your coach is backing you, then you get the confidence and it gets reflected in the match. He was telling me I don't even know what skills I have. So that's motivating when the coach says that. He along with Morne Morkel kept reminding me of my strengths,' Akash Deep told reporters after the end of third day's play.
The Indian pacer was picked in place of Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test with the Indian team management deciding to rest Bumrah. He picked up the wickets of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope off consecutive deliveries on the second day before he accounted for the fall of a well set Harry Brook and breaking the 303-run partnership between Brook and Jamie Smith.
The right-arm pacer would also talk about the kind of flat wickets the Indian team is encountering during the tour and the challenge. 'The kind of wickets and the kind of batting England has, it poses a challenge. As a bowler, you have things like disciplined bowling, bowling in your areas and bowling according to your plan in your hands on such kinds of pitches. So I believe when you keep things simple and go into the match with your plan and try to execute your plans, it's not difficult. Whether conditions are easy or difficult and whatever the batting is, it becomes easier for us. Result will come in favour one day and it will not come in favour the other day but sticking to this makes things easier for you,' he said.
England recovered after being 84 for 5 with Brook and Smith stitching together a 303-run partnership for the sixth wicket but Siraj and Akash Deep made sure that England lost quick wickets with the second new ball. Akash Deep also talked about his conversation with Siraj. 'We kept talking about what's working and what's not working. One thing which we kept talking about was that we have to maintain pressure as a pair. We will bowl in our areas and will not concede runs. Whether we get the wicket or not. With the first new ball, I was attacking and Siraj was stopping the runs. So it gave me the freedom to bowl freely. That was important,' said the Indian pacer.

No Pakistan In World Clubs T20 Championship Next Year, IPL Teams May...

Last Updated: Pakistan is likely to be excluded from the World Clubs T20 Championship, set to launch next year. No Indian Premier League side will play in the inaugural edition. Pakistan is likely to be excluded from the World Clubs T20 Championship, expected to launch next year. A source familiar with the developments stated that the winning team in the Pakistan Super League is unlikely to receive an invitation to the event, which is being expedited with the support of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its chairman, Jay Shah. 'TThe Pakistan Cricket Board was invited to send its CEO of the PSL for a meeting held on the sidelines of the cricket connect meeting in London last month but no one showed up," the source said. He mentioned that CEOs of most of the leading T20 franchise-based leagues gathered for the meeting, initiated by the England and Wales Cricket Board with ICC's backing. 'Discussions were held on the proposed World Clubs Championship, its window, format, schedule etc. (The) CEOs of the Emirates League, Big Bash League, The Hundred, SA20, MLC, Caribbean Premier League etc attended the meeting. Pakistan was also invited," he confirmed. Will IPL Teams Take Part? The source explained that initially, the World Clubs event will feature five teams, excluding any team from the Indian Premier League. 'Though the planned event has the backing of the Indian board but for the inaugural championship there will be no IPL participation." The source indicated that the World Clubs Championship is being fast-tracked to counter the planned Saudi Cricket League. Private investors are planning to fund the Saudi League with an initial investment of $400 million but are facing resistance as they aim to model their league after the Tennis Grand Slam events each year. The source noted that the recent meeting was crucial as CEOs discussed fixed windows for their events and the availability of NOCs for overseas players. 'The PCB didn't show up and strangely Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also not regularly attended ICC meetings." First Published:

'Akash Deep Cheated Joe Root...': Ex-India Selector Saba Karim On Controversial Dismissal During 2nd Test

Former BCCI selector Saba Karim said that India fast bowler Akash Deep 'cheated' England batter Joe Root to dismiss him during the second Test encounter. The dismissal sparked a massive controversy after commentators and certain fans were of the opinion that his backfoot was touching the return crease. Former England cricketer Alison Mitchell, while doing commentary on BBC TMS, said: "The delivery from Akash Deep - which we said was wide off the crease - his foot on the back crease is out. Looks like by about two inches. Maybe a little bit more. But comfortably. So his back foot, which needs to land within the line, just taps about two inches over the line. Not picked up!" However, Saba Karim decided to discuss the technical aspect of the dismissal as he said that when a delivery is bowled from the wide of the crease, the batter expects it to angle in. However, the ball from Akash Deep strengthened a bit and that ended up 'cheating' Root. "Akash Deep was talking about feeling cheated by the wicket as it was like an Indian wicket, but here he cheated Joe Root. When you are angling the ball in from wide of the crease, the batter is forced to think that the ball will come in only from that angle," he said on Sony Sports. Advertisement "If the ball straightens after pitching, what can the batter do? If you bowl such a ball to a great batter, it was definitely an unplayable delivery. Not only Joe Root, but 99.9 percent of the batters would have played like that towards the onside. Joe Root also tried that, and Akash Deep literally opened up Joe Root," Saba observed. What MCC Law 21.5.1 Says: Advertisement "For a delivery to be fair in respect of the feet, in the delivery stride (21.5.1) the bowler's back foot must land within and not touch the return crease appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery. (21.5.2) the bowler's front foot must land with some part of the foot, whether grounded or raised - on the same side of the imaginary line joining the two middle stumps as the return crease described in 21.5.1, and - behind the popping crease."
