TAPE execs told to appear for mediation in GMA Network's estafa complaint
In a copy of the subpoena dated May 5, 2025, respondents Romeo Jalosjos Jr., Romeo Jalosjos Sr., Seth Frederick P. Jalosjos, Michael N. Magtoto, Zenaida Buenavista, and Malou Choa-Fagar were directed to appear for mediation conferences scheduled on May 22 and May 29 at 12:30 p.m., pursuant to Department Circular No. 031, s. 2023.
"Failure to attend the mandatory mediation conferences will serve as a waiver of your right under the said Department Circular and the conduct of preliminary investigation shall proceed accordingly," the subpoena read.
In a statement sent to GMA News Online Monday, TAPE's legal counsel, Atty. Maggie Abraham-Garduque, said the production company only knew about the complaint through the news on May 22 and that they only received a copy of the subpoena on May 23, which was after the first scheduled mediation conference.
'On May 22, TAPE just learned of the complaint via news and when we checked the docket section ng [Office of the City Prosecutor], wala daw po. Then, May 23, TAPE received the subpoena for mediation kaya hindi sila naka-attend,' she told GMA News Online via text messages.
She also said that TAPE will follow and respect the proceedings and that they will attend the second mediation conference set for May 29.
She added that they will schedule a meeting with the board of directors of TAPE on Tuesday to discuss the possible offer of settlement.
'We will schedule a meeting with the board of directors of TAPE [tomorrow] to discuss the possible offer of settlement, if there is any, because this is the purpose of mediation, for parties to come up with compromise agreement to end the dispute and forego with the regular preliminary investigation in criminal cases," said Abraham-Garduque.
GMA Network, Inc. had filed a criminal complaint for estafa with abuse of confidence against officers of TAPE Inc. for the misappropriation of funds totaling P37,941,352.56.
The complaint stems from the respondents' failure to remit advertising revenues collected from clients, which had been contractually assigned to GMA Network under a 2023 Assignment Agreement. Despite multiple formal demands, the funds were not transferred to GMA because they were instead used for TAPE's operational expenses, in violation of the trust arrangement outlined in the agreement.

Warrant of arrest out for Cristy Fermin over Bea Alonzo's libel case
The Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued warrants of arrest against Cristy Fermin and two other entertainment personalities over Bea Alonzo's libel complaint. DFA: Some Pinoys among crew shown in Houthi video
Some Filipino seafarers were among the individuals shown in a video released by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who earlier claimed to have rescued crew members from the cargo vessel Eternity C after sinking it in the Red Sea, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Tuesday. 'Yes, meron,' DFA Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega told GMA News Online in response to a query on whether Filipinos were among those featured in the footage. However, De Vega said the exact number and identities of the Filipinos seen in the video remain unverified as of now. 'Ask DMW [Department of Migrant Workers] for confirmation as to their number or identities. Not all the 11 are Pinoys,' he added. On Monday, the Houthis released video clips and images showing 10 crew members they claim to have 'rescued' from the Eternity C, one of two commercial vessels struck by the rebel group earlier this month. According to the Houthi statement, 11 mariners in total were recovered from the sea, including two who sustained injuries and were provided medical care. One body found aboard the vessel before it sank was also brought to a hospital morgue. The attacks mark a renewed phase in the Houthis' campaign against ships they allege are linked to Israel — a campaign that had paused briefly but has since intensified amid the ongoing war in Gaza. A separate strike also hit another ship, the Magic Seas. EU naval task force Operation Aspides previously reported that 15 of the 25 crew members on the Eternity C remained missing, with four presumed dead. Washington has since accused the Houthis of kidnapping the missing crew, while Human Rights Watch described the attacks and unlawful detention of seafarers as potential war crimes. One Filipino survivor, Cocoy, had earlier recounted his ordeal in an interview, describing the moment a Houthi missile struck the ship. 'Akala ko po mamamatay na ako (I thought I was going to die.),' the seafarer said, noting that he was off-duty and resting in his cabin when the captain's voice boomed over the intercom of the cargo ship: "We are under attack". The July 6 assault on the Greek-owned Magic Seas broke a months-long lull in attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on Red Sea shipping, which began after the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. Crew members scrambled to reach the "muster station" at the center of the ship, considered the safest place should a projectile strike the vessel. GMA's 'Pepito Manaloto' warns against fake promos, FB pages using show's name
GMA Network's family sitcom "Pepito Manaloto" has issued a warning against fake promos and fake Facebook pages using the show's name. On Friday, the official and verified Facebook page of "Pepito Manaloto" advised the public to be wary of messages and texts containing links, as well as messages asking for personal information, such as one's name, address, and bank details in relation to a supposed promo by the show. "Huwag itong pansinin at huwag magbigay ng anumang detalye. Ang GMA Network at ang Pepito Manaloto production team ay hindi kailanman hihingi ng personal na impormasyon sa pamamagitan ng ganitong uri ng mensahe," the warning read. The official "Pepito Manaloto" page also shared screenshots of a fake Facebook page, named "Pepito Manaloto Surprises." "Huwag mag-like o mag-comment sa mga post na namimigay ng premyo," it warned. "Manatiling ligtas at mapanuri tayo sa mga natatanggap na mensahe." The official "Pepito Manaloto" page has asked the public to report such fake pages and stay vigilant.
