Let's take a look at pass-rushing in the AFC South.

Houston Texans
Few were better than the Houston Texans at rushing the passer last season. The combination of Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr accounted for 148 pressures and 23 sacks last season. Hunter actually led the NFL in pressures, while Anderson finished tied for 17th according to Next Gen Stats.
Tim Settle added another five sacks himself along the interior as did Derek Barnett, Houston's rotational pass-rusher. In total, the Texans racked up 241 pressures and 49 sacks, ranking second in pressure rate (37.8%) and fourth in sack rate (7.7%).
Indianapolis Colts
It's a steep fall off after the Houston Texans. While the Texans were near the top of the league, the Colts managed just 193 pressures and 36 sacks sacks on the season. The team's 31.4% pressure rate ranked 26th, while their 5.9% sack rate ranked only slightly better at 23rd.

Unlike the Texans or Jaguars, the Colts lack a true pass-rush specialist and rather have a pressure by committee. Even more so now after the loss of Dayo Odeyingbo, their top pass-rusher from last season. It's up to second-year Laiatu Latu to take a sophomore leap.
Tennessee Titans
Statistically, the Titans and Colts are very similar teams when it comes to rushing the passer. The Titans tallied 170 pressures and 32 sacks, notching a 31.1% pressure rate (27th) and a 5.9% sack rate (24th).
Also similarly to the Colts, the Titans lost their best pass-rusher in Harold Landry, who led the team with nine sacks. The Titans does retain Jeffrey Simmons, their dominant interior defender, so the team will look to lean on him even more this coming season.

Jacksonville Jaguars
It's strange finding the Jaguars 30th in pressure rate (28.3%) and sack rate (5.2%), despite boasting two top-15 edge rushes from last season. In fact, the Jaguars were the only team to have two players inside the NFL's Top-15 for most pressures.
Despite Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker's best efforts, it simply wasn't enough. The Jaguars interior pass-rush and averseness to blitzing left Hines-Allen and Walker on their own to create pressure far too often. With the addition of Emmanuel Ogbah, and some reshuffling along the defensive line, there's no reason to ever see the Jaguars this low again.

Texans lock up second-round OT Aireontae Ersery ahead of training camp
Aireontae Ersery is now signed, sealed and delivered as the newest signed member of the Houston Texans. According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Texans and their second-round offensive tackle have agreed to a four-year deal worth up $9.2 million. As of now, the full guarantees of the contract have yet to be released. With Ersery signed, the Texans have agreed to terms with all nine players of their rookie class ahead of Wednesday's start of training camp. As the second of two second-round picks, Ersery's arrival is significant since multiple second-round picks remain unsigned heading into training camp because of contract details. Earlier this offseason, the Texans made history by signing Iowa State wide receiver Jayden Higgins to a four-year fully guaranteed deal worth $11.8 million, making him the first second-round pick in NFL history to have a fully guaranteed contract. Since then, it's delayed a majority of second-round picks from reaching deals for weeks. Drafted 48th overall out of Minnesota, Ersery is expected to compete with both Blake Fisher and Cam Robinson for starting reps at either left or right tackle. He had worked out on both sides of the trenches during OTAs and is expected to do the same through training camp until one player steps up to lock down one side of the offensive line. The third-team All-American in 2024 with the Golden Gophers, Ersery allowed only one sack and one quarterback hit last season. He played mostly left tackle in college, playing seven snaps at right tackle and three at guard over his three seasons in Minneapolis. 'The biggest thing with Ersery is getting acclimated to learning what it takes to be a pro," Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said last month. "I see Ersery, he's steadily gotten better at the things off the field, of finding his routine, and also on the field, just seeing his footwork, his pad leverage, is getting better, it's improving.' While Ersery may or may not start in his rookie season, he's expected to be a long-term piece on the offensive line protecting Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud. The Texans return to the Methodist Training Center for the start of training camp on Wednesday morning.

Jaguars LB Dennis Gardeck placed on active/PUP
The Jaguars placed linebacker Dennis Gardeck on the active/physically unable to perform list, the team announced Saturday. Gardeck, who signed with the Jaguars last month, can return to the 90-player roster once he passes his physical. He tore the ACL in his right knee on a punt play in a game for the Cardinals against the Chargers last October. It is the same knee he injured in 2020. Gardeck finished his seventh NFL season with 20 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception. Gardeck made the Cardinals' roster as an undrafted free agent out of Division II Sioux Falls in 2018. He totaled 156 tackles, 17 sacks, two interceptions, seven pass breakups and three forced fumbles in seven seasons in Arizona.

50 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.50
The Houston Texans are officially 50 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has worn No. 50 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 50 No. 50 currently belongs to second-year defensive end Solomon Byrd. Mostly found on the practice squad in 2024, the former seventh-round pick did appear in two games last season and recorded a tackle. He's going to need a promising training camp to earn a spot on the active 53-man roster, but given his work ethic, perhaps Houston keeps him around as an option for the practice squad a second straight year. With Byrd barely playing over his lone season with the Texans, he's obviously not the best player to don No. 50, which begs the question: who is? Best Player: Tyrell Adams With the passing of Braman, we want to give a shoutout for his efforts during his time in Houston and the impact he's made to those in the area. On the field, however, Adams was the most consistent player and led all players in tackles who donned the jersey with 141 stops, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Picking are slim, but Adams was a reliable special-teams option and a decent No. 4 linebacker for three seasons. He started 14 games and averaged roughly 7.8 tackles per appearance. It's a solid number for a linebacker who was projected to be a practice squad player. And among the long 2020 COVID-19 season, Adams was one of the few defensive bright spots, notching 120 tackles and a career-best 12 starts. One solid season for the Texans did enough of the heavy lifitng to earn him the accolade over Anderson and Braman, though both made solid cases.
