Bersatu man pays RM10,000 compound for stoking racial, religious sentiments
PETALING JAYA : A Bersatu division leader has paid a RM10,000 compound to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for posting content on TikTok that stoked racial and religious sentiments.
In a statement, MCMC said it received the amount from Hulu Langat Bersatu information chief Shafiq Abdul Halim today.
'MCMC views seriously the misuse of digital platforms to spread content containing racial elements and religious extremism, or content that touches on national institutions.
'We remind social media users to always be ethical, courteous, and responsible when uploading or sharing content online,' it said.
Shafiq was slapped with the RM10,000 compound for posting offensive and extreme content involving racial and religious sentiments related to the Kuala Lumpur Tower dispute on TikTok on March 31.
The Bersatu man denied the accusations and said he was receiving legal advice on the matter.

Meanwhile, Perak Fisheries Department director Mohd Ghazali Manap said immediate action had been taken to remove all the dead fish from the affected area. 'This swift action was crucial to prevent secondary pollution and minimise the impact on other aquatic life,' he said, adding that further investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals or parties involved in the incident. — Bernama

Car driven by woman in her 80s crashes into parked vehicles and school fence near Sungai Merah bazaar in Sibu, no injuries reported
SIBU, July 12 — A car driven by an elderly woman in her 80s crashed into a school fence behind a priest's residence near the Sungai Merah bazaar early this morning. The incident, which occurred around 7am, reportedly began when the woman was reversing her vehicle near a coffee shop in the area. According to eyewitnesses, the car suddenly struck a table and several chairs in front of the shop before careening into two motorcycles parked by the roadside. The vehicle then collided with the rear of a four-wheel drive and a Perodua Kancil before coming to a halt after crashing into the fence of a primary school compound behind the priest's house. Fortunately, the driver escaped the incident unhurt. The crash caused minor damage to the fence and the vehicles involved.
