Day after Uddhav-CM meet, Eknath Shinde accuses Sena UBT chief of ‘backstabbing' Fadnavis in 2019
'We are the witness to how Devendraji was abused. The people had voted (in 2019) to Shiv Sena and BJP. But you backstabbed Devendra ji. I know how many phones did Devendra ji do after the results, but it was never answered. Everyone has to pay for their deeds here itself,' said Shinde.
He was speaking at the legislative council while replying to the discussion on last week's motion moved by the Opposition.
Shinde's remarks came at a time when Fadnavis and Uddhav were seen exchanging cordial greetings to each other. On Wednesday. Fadnavis offered former ally Uddhav to join the Mahayuti while on Thursday both the leaders spent around 20-minutes chatting behind closed doors without the presence of any other leader.
Shinde went on to claim that while Fadnavis gave away the Mumbai mayor post to Shiv Sena in 2017, Uddhav paid him back with betrayal.
'Devendra ji was challenged (by Uddhav) by saying either it will be you or me. It was then that I decided to act.. .even Devendraji would be smiling now seeing the present developments,' he added, referring to the recent meetings between the two.
The deputy CM claimed that Uddhav hated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and therefore did not attend the programme where Modi was conferred with first Lata Mangeshkar award.
'I don't mess with people, but I do not leave those who mess with me,' he said.
Uddhav had termed the MNS as a party which was over during one of the poll campaigns. Referring to this, Shinde took a dig on the possible alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) saying that 'some are desperate to go with those whom they once called as finished'.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday warned that if Hindi was made mandatory for Classes 1 to 5 in schools in Maharashtra, his party will 'shut down schools'. The MNS remarks came a day after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stressed upon his resolve to implement the three language policy in school curriculum. He had, however, stated that the third language will be optional and would be based on the recommendation of the committee formed. Those living here must learn Marathi. If you want to live peacefully in Maharashtra, respect the language and the people. If not, expect a backlash,' he said. Urging his supporters to only use Marathi in public and private spaces, Thackeray added, 'Whether you are in a train, bus, taxi, shop, or hospital — speak in Marathi and make the other person speak in Marathi too.' The MNS chief claimed that the government's push for Hindi was not merely educational, but part of a broader political strategy to reshape the electoral map of the state. He alleged that constituencies from Mira-Bhayandar to Palghar were being deliberately transformed into non-Marathi-dominated zones. 'This is a planned demographic shift. Migrants are being settled here in large numbers to create voter blocs. Eventually, they will elect their own corporators, MLAs, and MPs, and you — the sons of the soil — will be pushed aside,' he told the gathering. Thackeray accused unnamed forces of attempting to politically and culturally align these areas with neighbouring Gujarat. 'They want to annex this entire stretch to Gujarat — it's not new, it's a long-running agenda,' he claimed. Taking aim at BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who had earlier made provocative remarks about Marathi speakers, Thackeray warned, 'Dubey, come to Mumbai if you dare. We will drown you in the sea. Don't test our patience.' Thackeray added that while MNS remained committed to Hindutva, it would never tolerate the forced dominance of Hindi in Maharashtra. 'We are staunch Hindus, yes. Mumbai: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde on Friday hit out at Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray , accusing him of betraying BJP 's Devendra Fadnavis in 2019 by playing "opportunist politics" akin to a chameleon that changes its colours. "Now, you offer a bouquet to Fadnavis, and also criticise PM Modi and Amit Shah, which shows a 'chemical locha' in your mind," Shinde said. Replying to the opposition's last week motion in the legislative council, Shinde said, without naming Thackeray, that Fadnavis made "40-50 calls" after the alliance of the undivided Shiv Sena and BJP retained its majority in the 2019 assembly elections. But there was no response to the BJP leader's calls, he said. Shinde said it was on his request that Fadnavis had agreed to cede Mumbai mayor post to Shiv Sena in 2017, after Sena won 84 seats and BJP 82 in civic polls.
