AAP leader Anmol Gagan Maan on Saturday resigned from the Punjab Assembly and announced that she is quitting politics.
Maan, who was the MLA from the Kharar constituency, sent her resignation to Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.
In a post in Punjabi on X, she wrote, 'My heart is heavy, but I have decided to step away from politics. I request the Hon'ble Speaker to accept my resignation from the position of MLA. My best wishes remain with the party. I hope the Punjab Government lives up to the expectations of the people."
Maan, a singer-turned-politician, was elected from Kharar in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. She did not give any reason for her resignation. There was no immediate response from the Aam Aadmi Party as well.
Maan had joined AAP in July 2020 and was later made co-president of the party's youth wing. She sang a campaign song in praise of party leader Arvind Kejriwal before the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. In those elections, she defeated Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Ranjit Singh Gill in the Kharar seat by a margin of 37,885 votes.
After her victory, she was appointed as a minister in the Bhagwant Mann-led government and was given charge of tourism and culture, investment promotion, labour, and hospitality.
However, in September 2024, she was among four ministers dropped from the Cabinet. Maan, who hails from Mansa district, married advocate Shahbaaz Singh Sohi in June 2024.
Before entering politics, she was well known for her Punjabi songs such as Suit, Ghaint Purpose, and Sherni

India extends airspace closure for Pakistan planes till Aug 24

Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) India has extended the closure of its airspace for Pakistan planes by another month till August 24. In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22, India closed its airspace for planes operated, owned or leased by Pakistan airlines and operators, including military flights, with effect from April 30. The ban is part of various measures taken by the government against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. 'The Notice to Airmen (NOT AM) restricting Pakistani aircraft from entering Indian airspace has been officially extended till 23rd August 2025," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said. This extension reflects continued strategic considerations and is in line with prevailing security protocols, the minister said in a post on X late on Tuesday. Initially, the ban was to end on May 24 and the same was extended first till June 24 and then till July 24. The fresh NOTAM is applicable till 2359 hours (UTC) on August 23, which means till 0530 hours (IST) on August 24. Meanwhile, Pakistan has also extended by one month the closure of its airspace for Indian aircraft till August 24. On April 24, Pakistan banned its airspace for India until May 24, after the Indian government suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. The airspace curb was extended till June 24, then till July 24 and again by another month. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Emerges As Key Contender In Vice Presidential Succession Race Following Dhankhar's Exit

The unexpected departure of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the Vice Presidency has triggered immediate speculation about potential successors, with constitutional requirements mandating that replacement elections occur with minimal delay. Dhankhar's abrupt resignation on July 21, 2025, citing medical concerns, has left India's second-highest constitutional office vacant and political circles buzzing with candidate possibilities. Among the emerging frontrunners, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar represents perhaps the most intriguing possibility despite initial appearances of being an unlikely choice. Political observers and NDA allies, including Upendra Kushwaha, have suggested that Kumar might consider stepping down from his current role to allow generational transition in Bihar politics. This speculation gains credence from Union Minister Chirag Paswan's announcement regarding his intentions to contest upcoming Bihar elections, potentially creating space for Kumar's graceful transition to national office. Kumar's lengthy tenure as Bihar's chief minister positions him as someone seeking an honorable exit strategy while maintaining political relevance at the national level. His experience and regional influence could make him an attractive candidate for the ruling coalition, particularly given his established relationships within the NDA framework. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena emerges as another significant contender, despite serving only three years in his current position. The 67-year-old former corporate executive has been subject to persistent speculation about advancement to higher office, with sources suggesting preparations for a "bigger assignment." Saxena's tenure in Delhi has been marked by significant political influence, particularly in his interactions with the AAP government. His administrative approach has involved blocking various policy initiatives and appointment decisions by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's government, extending from Delhi Jal Board matters to broader governance issues. Political analysts suggest that Saxena's confrontational style with the Delhi administration played a role in shaping public perception battles that ultimately affected Kejriwal's political standing. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presents another compelling option, with his current tenure concluding on August 6, creating perfect timing for potential elevation. The 66-year-old former railway minister brings extensive BJP experience from Uttar Pradesh and has overseen the sensitive post-Article 370 transition period in the union territory. Sinha's supporters credit him with providing stability during a crucial period following the constitutional changes in Jammu and Kashmir. However, his tenure concludes amid security challenges, including the recent Pahalgam terror incident that resulted in multiple civilian casualties, which could influence his candidacy prospects. The constitutional mandate for swift election proceedings means that official announcements and candidate selections will likely occur rapidly. Each potential candidate brings distinct advantages and political considerations that will factor into the ruling coalition's decision-making process. The selection process will ultimately depend on various political calculations, including regional representation, experience levels, and alignment with current government priorities. As speculation continues, these three names represent the most credible possibilities for succeeding Dhankhar in India's Vice Presidency.
