Further investigation on explosion in Ipoh handed over to police
He said that so far, initial investigations have been conducted but have not found any specific cause or evidence that can be linked to the incident.
'The investigation is continuing, but has not been found anything specific so we cannot comment further... and (now) the police are conducting the investigation because it is related to state security.
'There is only one agency (conducting the investigation), which is the police. 'What the police get is what will be reported to the state,' he said when met after officiating the 2025 International Culinary Competition at Bulatan Azlan Shah today.
He said the investigation would continue until the cause of the incident was found because it was the second time in Perak, and similar incidents also occurred in Selangor.
Meanwhile, Perak Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG) director, Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim, in a statement today, said according to his research, mysterious explosions have been reported all over the world for a long time without a definite explanation.
'This sound is described from the sky with a moderate to strong explosion, and sometimes shakes windows and walls of buildings.
'Mysterious explosions in Ipoh have occurred in 2012, 2018, 2024 and most recently on June 18, 2025 at about 10:30 am and have been determined not to be the result of quarrying activities, bomb tests or sonic booms from jet aircraft,' according to the statement.
He said initial studies by the Perak JMG showed that the area where the public heard the explosion was within the same range, from Chemor, Klebang, Meru in the north to around Tambun and Gunung Rapat, in the south.
'The Perak JMG will continue to conduct studies of the geological sources around Ipoh and so far have not been able to detect the cause,' according to the statement.
On June 19, Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin announced that police would hold discussions with various departments and related agencies soon, to find out the cause of the explosion and tremors.
Earlier, explosions and tremors were reported by the media twice in Perak, on October 21, 2024 and June 18 this year, which allegedly occurred in the areas of Chemor, Chepor, Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Manjoi and Sungai Siput at about 10 to 11 am.

Audience moved to tears during pantomime of FRU crash tragedy
IPOH: A sombre atmosphere filled the air at the Banquet Hall of the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building as attendees were moved to tears by a pantomime performance paying tribute to victims of the tragic Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) accident in Teluk Intan. The 15-minute performance, titled 'Sang Beret Merah' (The Red Beret), depicted the final journey of the FRU officers who had been assigned on duty during the Chitra Pournami festival in Teluk Intan on May 13, which later resulted in a tragic crash. Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, also witnessed the performance after gracing the Perak state-level Warriors' Day 2025 celebration earlier. Loud boom in Perak could've been natural, says state top cop
IPOH: While a natural explanation is likely, the cause of the loud boom and brief tremor that shook several parts of Ipoh is still being investigated, says the Perak police chief. Datuk Noor Hisam Noordin said the incident, which occurred at around 10.30am on June 18, sparked concern among residents in Chemor, Chepor and Tanah Hitam. 'Initial investigations have not found any evidence of misconduct or unscheduled demolition activity at quarries. 'We have interviewed residents from the affected areas and referred the matter to geologists and the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG),' he told reporters during a handover ceremony at the Senior Police Officers' Mess yesterday. 'There is no indication of any misconduct or unscheduled blasting activity. 'It's all natural causes but we are still conducting a thorough investigation,' he said, adding that a similar incident occurred on June 6 last year. 'Such events might happen only once every 10 years. But now we've seen two consecutive cases in June. 'We are studying this phenomenon more closely.' He added that authorities will be calling for a multi-agency meeting involving JMG, quarry operators, the armed forces and other related bodies to discuss the issue in greater depth. 'The public is advised to remain calm and not to speculate. There is no cause for alarm. People can continue with their daily routines as usual,' he said. On a separate matter, Noor Hisam said the police have recorded a statement from a teacher accused of posting offensive remarks about the tragic accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students on the East-West Highway in Gerik. 'We have already recorded the statement and seized his mobile phone to assist in the investigation. 'The investigation paper is almost complete, pending the medical report from the hospital. 'Once received, we will submit the case to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,' he said. Earlier, a Facebook account bearing the name 'Khalid Yunus' had sparked public outrage after it wrote that the 15 students had 'died in disgrace'. The post has since been deleted and the account holder has posted a public apology, claiming he suffered from schizophrenia. State education, higher education, youth and sports committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah later confirmed that the account belonged to a secondary school teacher. The Perak Education Department is also preparing a full report on the matter.
