Clarivate Unveils the 2025 Journal Citation Reports

LONDON, June 18, 2025 /CNW/ -- Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a leading global provider of transformative intelligence, today released the 2025 update to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This is the 50 th anniversary of the industry-leading annual reports, which provide a comprehensive overview of the world's leading and trusted academic journals, offering academic institutions, researchers, and publishers the ability to gauge journals' trustworthiness and impact.
Only journals that have met the rigorous quality standards for inclusion in the Web of Science Core Collection are featured within the Journal Citation Reports, which ensures users can confidently rely on the information and descriptive data provided. The annual reports provide a rich array of publisher–neutral data, metrics, and analysis to enhance user understanding of journal performance, including the widely recognized Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and the Journal Citation Indicator.
Key highlights for the 2025 release:
The JCR includes data from a total of 22,249 journals across 254 categories
Over 6,200 of these were published via gold open access
Scholarly journals from 111 countries are recognized and receive a JIF, including 14,591 in the sciences and 7,559 in the social sciences, as well as 3,368 journals in the arts and humanities
618 journals receive a JIF for the first time
This year's release excludes citations to and from retracted content when calculating the JIF numerator, ensuring that citations from retracted articles do not contribute to the numerical value of the JIF. However, retracted articles will still be included in the article count (JIF denominator), maintaining transparency and accountability. This policy affects 1% of journals.

OTTAWA, ON, July 25, 2025 /CNW/ - Newfoundland is taking a bold step forward in food waste innovation through a growing partnership between local municipalities and Canadian clean-tech company Food Cycle Science (FCS). With no green bin infrastructure currently available on the island, five communities - Gander, Corner Brook, Pasadena, Conception Bay South, and Portugal Cove–St. Philip's - have launched residential food waste diversion programs using the FoodCycler ®, a countertop appliance that transforms food scraps into a dry, shelf-stable by-product that's easy to store, transport, or repurpose. These programs show how rural and remote communities can lead the way in sustainability by embracing decentralized, technology-driven solutions, without waiting for large-scale infrastructure. By offering households a simple, high-tech way to manage food waste at home, municipalities are reducing the burden on landfill systems while cutting down on hauling costs and emissions. In Gander's 200-household pilot, participating households are diverting an average of 255 kg of food waste per year, keeping the annual equivalent of 4,430 garbage bags out of the regional landfill and preventing an estimated 63.1 metric tonnes of CO₂e emissions annually. " Our FoodCycler pilot program proved that giving residents a simple way to manage food waste at home can make a big difference," said Brian Hudson, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Pasadena. " It takes pressure off our whole waste system - less hauling, fewer emissions, and less going to landfill. If scaled community-wide, the impact would be significant." LYNCHBURG, Va. — BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) announced today that work has commenced to fabricate the reactor core for the Pele microreactor at its BWXT Innovation Campus in Lynchburg, Virginia. Pele is a 1.5-megawatt demonstration microreactor for the Department of Defense Strategic Capabilities Office. The technology is expected to begin producing electricity in 2028. Article content Article content 'This is a tremendous achievement for the BWXT team and for the advancement of groundbreaking nuclear energy technology as a reliable, resilient source of electricity and heat for multiple applications.' Article content The Pele microreactor is gas-cooled and designed to be transportable. The reactor and its associated systems fit into four 20-foot-long shipping containers, making it ideal to be delivered to forward military bases and other installations, providing resilient and reliable electricity for up to three years without refueling. Article content Pele will be powered by TRISO fuel, a specific design of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel that can withstand extreme heat and has very low environmental risks. BWXT has completed fabricating the TRISO nuclear fuel for the reactor and will ship it to Idaho National Lab in the months ahead. Article content Rolls-Royce is developing the power conversion module at its LibertyWorks facility in Indianapolis. The power conversion system is a critical component that enables the microreactor to reliably produce mission-assured electric power in remote or contested environments. Article content Project Pele began in 2016 following a DoD study that identified a growing need for additional power resources for the military in the future. The SCO awarded BWXT the contract to build the prototype reactor in 2022. Article content Executive Order (EO) 14299, 'Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security,' signed by President Trump in May, calls for a program using advanced nuclear technology for both installation and operational energy. The EO directs the DoD to commence the operation of a nuclear reactor, regulated by the United States Army, at a domestic military base or installation no later than Sept. 30, 2028. The Pele reactor has the strongest potential to fulfill that objective. The two latest patents highlight key innovations from Cognizant's AI research: U.S. Patent No. 12,282,845 (issued on April 22, 2025) covers a method for Multi-objective Coevolution of Deep Neural Network Architectures, aimed at improving model performance and resource efficiency. The method's application ranges from medical image classification to natural language processing.
