Operation Sindoor: Centre issued directions to block over 1,400 fake URLs on digital media
Union Railways and Electronics and IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that it was observed that certain social media handles, many operating from outside India, were actively propagating false and potentially harmful information during the Pahalgam terror attack and 'Operation Sindoor.'
"Under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000, the government issued necessary orders to block websites, social media handles and posts in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, and public order," he said.
On April 26, 2025, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had issued an advisory to all media channels to refrain from showing live coverage of defence operations and movement of security forces in the interest of national security.
During 'Operation Sindoor', a centralised Control Room was established for interdisciplinary and inter-departmental coordination. This Control Room functioned 24x7 and facilitated real-time information dissemination to all media stakeholders.
The minister further informed that this Control Room comprised nodal representatives from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with officers from various government media units, and officials from the Press Information Bureau (PIB). Social media handles and posts spreading fake news and misinformation were actively identified.
"Fact Check Unit under the PIB actively monitored social media platforms and online news sources in real time to detect fake images, edited videos, misleading narratives, and any manipulated content targeting the operation's objectives, government agencies, or security forces," said Vaishnaw.
The Unit debunked Pakistani propaganda against India and the Indian armed forces and fact-checked many posts countering such content. Additionally, the links related to disinformation or false news concerning 'Operation Sindoor', fact-checked by the FCU, were promptly shared with concerned intermediaries for appropriate action.

SHOCKING! This Muslim nation slaps terror charges on 7-year-old boy for sharing video of..., name is..., not Saudi Arabia, UAE
Representational Image Balochistan Independence: In a despicable case of human rights abuse, Pakistan Army officials have slapped terror charges on a 7-year-old boy in Balochistan after he shared a video of a human rights activist on his YouTube channel. What is the child accused of? According to details, the child, a native of Turbat in Balochistan, uploaded a video of rights activist Gulzar Dost on the video-sharing platform, following which a case was registered against him by Pakistani military officials under anti-terrorism laws. The shocking case has sparked outrage in Balochistan, as well as across Pakistan, with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) condemning the incident, calling it a gross misuse of anti-terrorism laws and blatant abuse of power by the country's armed forces in the conflict-torn region. How human rights watchdog responded? 'The registration of an FIR under anti-terrorism laws against a 7-year-old minor child in Turbat, Balochistan is highly reprehensible and a serious violation of human rights. The move is not only contrary to the spirit of the law but also in gross violation of national and international obligations related to the protection of children. Terming the mere sharing of a video as terrorism shows a blatant misuse of power,' the HRCP said in a statement. The rights watchdog has raised serious concerns about child rights and the legal obligations of the Pakistani government to protect them, urging Islamabad to take a serious cognizance of the matter, and introduce reforms. Calling the situation in Balochistan 'worrisome', the HRCP has demanded the revocation of the FIR against the child, and asked for protection to the family from harassment and abuse by Pakistani military officials. Court extends police custody of Mahrang Baloch, other BYC activists Meanwhile, in yet another move underscoring Pakistan's continued repression of peaceful Baloch activism, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta on Saturday extended the police custody of Mahrang Baloch and several organisers from the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) for another 20 days. The order was issued despite growing criticism from rights advocates and legal experts over the ongoing detention. According to Dawn News, the court's latest decision comes after several months of repeated extensions in the detention of Mahrang and other BYC leaders, who were arrested in March following a protest against alleged enforced disappearances.

Using ‘Bangladeshi for Bangla' an insult to Bengali culture: Trinamool
The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has taken strong objection to a letter by the Delhi police describing Bangla, or Bengali, as a 'Bangladeshi' language and called for strong protests on Sunday (August 3, 2025). A letter on July 29 from the Officer-in-Charge, Police Station Lodhi House, to the Officer-in-Charge, Banga Bhawan, requested the translation of documents containing text written in the 'Bangladeshi language.' The communication was in connection with an FIR lodged in Delhi in connection with eight persons suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals residing in the national capital. Ms. Banerjee said calling the Bengali language a Bangladeshi language is 'scandalous, insulting, anti- national, and unconstitutional! This insults all Bengali-speaking people of India. They cannot use this language, which degrades and debases us all.' Anti-Bengali government The Trinamool Congress chairperson took to social media and called for 'immediate, and the strongest possible protests against the anti-Bengali Government of India, who are using anti-Constitutional language to insult and humiliate the Bengali speaking people of India.' The West Bengal Chief Minister also emphasised that both the 'national anthem and national song are written in Bengali.' The language which crores of Indians speak and write, and is recognised by the Constitution of India, is now being described as a 'Bangladeshi language.' The development comes while the Trinamool Congress has been calling for Bengali Asmita over the targeting of migrant workers in BJP ruled states. The Trinamool leadership has called for protests in the form of a 'language movement' scheduled to continue till next year's Assembly polls. Undermining cultural identity The party's general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, said it was 'not a mere clerical error,' but another 'calculated attempt by the BJP to defame Bengal, undermine our cultural identity, and equate West Bengal with Bangladesh for narrow political propaganda.' 'To call Bangla a foreign language is not just an insult — It's an attack on our identity, culture, and belonging. Bengalis are not outsiders in their own homeland,' he said. The Trinamool Congress leader demanded the immediate suspension of Investigating Officer Amit Dutt, and a formal public apology from @DelhiPolice, @BJP4India, and the Home Ministry led by @AmitShah. 'Bangla and Bengalis are Indian. Bangla is our pride. We will not allow our identity to be trampled upon,' he added. Several other leaders of the West Bengal ruling party took to social media. The party also held a press conference where Education Minister Bratya Basu and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that by falsely branding Bengali as a 'Bangladeshi language' — the @BJP4India is pushing its anti-Bengali agenda to dangerous extremes. Weaponising language BJP leader Amit Malviya accused the West Bengal Chief Minister of 'weaponising language and stoking sentiment over a lawful police action against Bangladeshi infiltrators.' 'Let us be absolutely clear: all illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas will be dealt with strictly, as per the law of the land. No political grandstanding or vote-bank politics will come in the way of protecting India's sovereignty and national security,' he posted on social media.
