The market for active studio speakers shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. The latest brand to join the party is FiiO which has launched a brand new pair of high-end SP5 active speakers for desktop and nearfield listening. The SP5 speakers bring together the latest sonic engineering with audio innovations that FiiO says will redefine the quality consumers can expect from studio monitors for well under $1,000.
Engineered from the ground up with a dual power supply system, each of the SP5 speakers has its own 120W supply. This independent configuration provides a more consistent power delivery as well as minimizing cross-channel interference and boosting sonic stability to a level typically reserved for component systems.
At the heart of the SP5 is an independent 4-channel amplifier delivering 60W to the 5.25-inch Rohacell-cone bass driver and 20W to the 1-inch composite silk dome tweeter. The Rohacell driver has ultra-low distortion and tight and responsive lows. Paired with a rear cavity-enhanced tweeter with an internal magnet structure, the SP5 aims to deliver smooth highs without losing any of the detail.

The new speakers have a three-band bass and treble adjustment system with dual-frequency bass extension for precise adjustments to suit any listening environment or user's tastes. Whether the SP5 are used on a mixing desk, a desktop workstation or in a dedicated listening space, they can be tuned to suit the situation.
Featuring AUX, RCA, XLR and ​ USB Type-C inputs, the SP5 speakers are at home with both analog and digital sources alike and have independent volume memory, so each input remembers its own customized level settings. A low-noise, high-precision encoder provides stepless, electronic volume adjustment using a front-mounted control knob, resulting in zero loss of resolution.
The SP5 include full support for high-definition Bluetooth codecs, including LDAC and aptX Adaptive audio codecs for lossless wireless streaming with minimal latency. Users can control the speakers using the FiiO Control App, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. The app features 10-band PEQ tuning and complete speaker configuration, all from a phone, tablet or laptop.
