New JUDGE DREDD Movie Being Developed by Taika Waititi and Drew Pearce — GeekTyrant

Mega-City One is getting a fresh dose of law and chaos. According to Deadline, Taika Waititi is set to direct a brand-new Judge Dredd movie, with Drew Pearce writing the script. The project has just hit the market, and while no deals are locked in yet, the creative talent attached makes this a major play for studios.
The film is being produced by Chris Kingsley, Jason Kingsley, and Ben Smith of Rebellion Developments, along with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, Jeremy Platt, Natalie Viscuso, and Pearce himself.
Judge Dredd was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, first appearing in the British comic 2000 AD. The story follows law enforcement officers in the sprawling dystopia of Mega-City One, where Judges act as judge, jury, and executioner.
Over the years, Hollywood has tackled the character twice, first in 1995 with Sylvester Stallone, and again in 2012 with Karl Urban's grittier take, which went on to earn cult status despite underperforming theatrically.
While details on this new version remain under wraps, insiders hint it will carry some of the lighter, offbeat tone that Waititi is known for. That suggests a fresh spin on the grim, violent world of the Judges, possibly blending satire and humor with the franchise's trademark brutality.
With Waititi behind the camera and Pearce ( Iron Man 3, Hotel Artemis ) crafting the story, this could be a very different kind of Judge Dredd film, one that plays into the comic's roots as both ultra-violent and darkly funny.
I just thought that Alex Garland's Dredd was awesome, and I would've loved to see that franchise continue with Karl Urban. While attempts were made, I never happened, so… now we're getting another reboot.
Would you want to see a Judge Dredd in the style of Waititi?

Ellen DeGeneres finally confirms Trump influenced her UK move: ‘We're staying here'

Ellen DeGeneres confirmed that she and wife Portia de Rossi decided to pack up and move to the UK because of President Trump's re-election win. The former talk show host, 67, detailed her new life across the pond during a conversation with British host Richard Bacon onstage in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Sunday, per the BBC. Admitting that she and the 'Arrested Development' alum, 52, initially only planned to stay in the UK for a couple of months, the pair pulled the trigger on a permanent move in November following Trump's historic win over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. 4 Ellen DeGeneres confirmed that she and wife Portia de Rossi decided to pack up and move to the UK because of President Trump's re-election win. @ellendegeneres/Instagram Following their trans-Atlantic move, the duo set up camp in the ritzy Cotswolds neighborhood, which is a known favorite among the Hollywood elite. 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here.'' The pair, who wed in 2008 after four years of dating, proved they were serious about uprooting their lives across the pond after buying a sprawling farmhouse in the hoity-toity area in South West England, nearly two hours from London, for an eye-popping $18 million — some $3 million over the asking price. Their new rural life includes tending to their horses, chickens and their dogs. 4 President Trump's historic win over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris took place in November 2024. AP 'It's absolutely beautiful,' the comedian said. 'We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture — everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life.' 'It's clean,' she went on. 'Everything here is just better — the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.' DeGeneres also hinted that she and de Rossi could be looking to get married again in the UK. 'The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage,' she said. 'They're trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it. Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.' 4 The comedian also hinted at a possible return into showbiz, though admitted it will be differently formatted to her former eponymous talk show. BACKGRID 'I wish we were at a place where it was not scary for people to be who they are. I wish that we lived in a society where everybody could accept other people and their differences.' Elsewhere during the chat, the comedian hinted at a possible return into showbiz. 'I just don't know what that is yet,' she said of her career plans, adding that her next project will not reflect the format of her eponymous talk show. 'I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I'm a little bit bored,' she added. While it appears as though the pair have taken to the English countryside lifestyle without a hitch, it's not all been smooth sailing for the duo there. Earlier this year, the couple clashed with their British neighbors over an extension at their multimillion-dollar home. 4 DeGeneres also hinted that she and de Rossi could be looking to get married again in the UK. BACKGRID Still, the hiccup didn't stop DeGeneres from selling one of her final properties in the US — prompting her to officially cut ties with her homeland. While it's not clear exactly why the pair decided on the Cotswolds, the region is a picturesque and wealthy part of England, with many British stars boasting country houses there.

Season 04 Episode 01: "Pretty Woman" - A glamorous stranger convinces Mandy of the importance of the correct paperwork. S04 E02: "Mad Mandy: Fury Road" - Something is holding Mandy back. But what is it? Can she overcome it? Does she even know what it is? Is there anything she can do about it? S04 E03: "Seed" - Mandy's dreams are shattered by the arrival of a mysterious night-time visitor. S04 E04: "Mand On The Run" - An old friend brings a chance of redemption for Mandy, but also misfortune, death, danger and destruction – a heady mix, especially for a Tuesday afternoon. S04 E05: "Wormhole" - For once, Mandy has the perfect job. The hours are fine, the pay is good, the fag breaks are reasonable. There's only one problem: people. Yes, them again. Can Mandy outwit them at last? S04 E06: "It's Not You, It's Mandy" - Mandy is forced to confront a dramatic change to her whole way of life, and she must look for meaning in places where she's either been too tired or too bored to look for it before. The series is now in its fourth series - did you think audiences would take Mandy into their heart as much as they have? No, it's complete surprise to me I think it would just be a pilot that would disappear without trace … Some viewers have reacted to it in unusual ways. I've heard that at least four of them have turned vegetarian after watching an episode of the last series where Mandy gets a job in an abattoir, so that's good. Especially for cows. And what is it, do you think, that keeps them coming back for more? There's nothing else on? I suppose it's always nice, after a hard day's work, to see someone have a worse time that you and still come through without serious mental health issues or HR getting involved. Will Mandy ever be capable to hold down a permanent job? I think that would ruin the whole premise of the series, if she suddenly could do a job realisably well? Nothing would happen! It would just be Mandy sat at a desk. How do you think Mandy evolved as a person through the past four series? She hasn't evolved at all, that's what makes her charming. She's learned nothing. Just keeps making the same mistakes, like all of us. Will you ever have a use for Mandy's leopard print outfit? I wear it whenever I do a big shop. Where does the inspiration come from, for the most obscure situations that Mandy finds herself in? They're all based on absolute fact. A lot of them are inspired by things that have happened to me. I've had a number of jobs that I've been fired from. Some I haven't even lasted an hour in. Acting's about the only job I've lasted more than a week in. So I have to stick with it. Which episode for you is the standout for this series -or is it too hard to pick? There's bits of all the episodes that I think are great. But I can't tell you what they are because they'll spoil it. And also I can't remember them clearly. You made this series a cruelty-free production – what can you tell us about that? We decided to use only cruelty-free make-up products that haven't been tested on animals. We warned all the actors what we were doing and none of them had a problem with it. I think there should be a special logo at the end of the show to prove it. Most of the actors were amazed that some products aren't cruelty-free. Some, well-known brands still test on animals and most people aren't aware of that. Have you ever passed your driving test? If not, good luck finding a driving instructor. No, I haven't passed my driving test. Although I have done 1000s of hours of lessons. I just don't think I'm one of nature's natural drivers. I'm waiting for the self-driving cars to kick in now. Lots – including "Strike: Ink Black Heart", "Human", UEFA Women's Euro 2025 and loads more! We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Ben Barnes: Fallen hero Tim wants new start in 'The Institute'

Photo courtesy of MGM+ NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Prince Caspian, Westworld and The Punisher alum Ben Barnes says Tim, the character he plays in the new supernatural drama, The Institute, is a troubled man seeking redemption. "We meet him at quite a heavy moment in his life. He's looking to kind of press re-start on his life. He used to be a police officer and he's made some decisions which weigh really heavily on him and he feels very shameful about," Barnes, 43, told UPI in a recent Zoom interview. "He's lost a lot, including a marriage, because of it and I think he's trying to find some peace in his life, and finds himself near this Institute, and something starts to not add up for him about this new community that he finds himself In and, so, he starts snooping and uncovering things and realizing, eventually, the full horror of what's happening." Based on the book by Stephen King, new episodes of the MGM+ show air Sundays and follow Luke (Freeman), a teen genius, who is kidnapped and awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did, possess unusual abilities and are told they are needed to save the world. Goodbye front half for you! Don't miss the latest episode of #TheInstitute now streaming on #MGMplus MGM+ (@mgmplus) July 20, 2025 "Luke is sort of at a crossroads," said newcomer Freeman, the 19-year-old son of British acting royalty Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington. "He has MIT calling and a future ahead of him, but, also, he has everybody back in Minneapolis and he doesn't want to let anybody down," Freeman said of Luke. "So, I think he's sort of living his best life as a 14-year-old. He's got a brilliant opportunity ahead of him and, I'm sure, in his head, he's thinking it will work itself out." While they find themselves navigating unusual circumstances, Tim and Luke seem authentic, three-dimensional and easy for viewers to relate to. "It is probably easier for Tim at the beginning because he's grounded in very real things. It's sort of a quiet beginning for Tim," Barnes said. "For Joe, to play a character who is sort of snatched up into such a horrific environment, to be so unsettled so fast into the show [is more challenging]," Barnes added. "But I think you're always going to be rooting for the person who's being treated in an unjust way and rooting for the person who's trying to help that person and support that person, so I think we were helped by the structure of the story in that way." Barnes went on to say the fact both characters have firm grips on their moral compasses also make them likable. "They know which way True North is and they know what's right to stand up for and those are the things that they kind of really have in common," Barnes added. "They can't help but stand up for the things they think are right and I think once you start to sense that in someone, when you're watching a show, you can't help but be on their side." King is famous for telling stories that are not just entertaining or disturbing, but that also explore important existential issues. The Institute, for example, takes a deep dive into concepts such as free will, authoritarianism and sacrifices required for a greater good. "There are lots of scenes where there are questions being asked that are not being answered and I think Stephen King is such a master of allegory -- like using telepathy to signify communication or telekinesis to signify those sort of hidden powers that we all have, even the most vulnerable of us, to kind of be hopeful and to fight against unchecked systems," Barnes said. Barnes, who has been professionally acting for more than 20 years, was ready to help Freeman if he needed anything, much the way Tim wanted to be there for Luke. "He's just born to do this," Barnes praised his co-star. "But [I wanted us] to be able to work through things together and discuss dynamics of the story or if he ever felt uncomfortable about situations, or committing to moments or whatever it might be," Barnes added. "We became a good source of support for each other, through the course of filming, being the two Brits out there [in Nova Scotia], away from home for those months filming the show together." The show co-stars Mary-Louise Parker, Robert Joy, Julian Richings and Martin Roach.
