Delhi sees light rain, cooler weather, cleaner air
'Generally cloudy skies will persist throughout the day on Saturday, with chances of very light to light rain in several parts of the city. This might be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning,' said an IMD official.
Scattered rain continued in parts of Delhi until the early hours of Saturday. According to the IMD, a 'trace amount' of rain was recorded at the Safdarjung and Palam weather stations between 11.30 pm on Friday and 2.30 am on Saturday; other weather stations like Ayanagar recorded 23 mm of rain, and Ridge recorded 0.4 mm during the same period.
The IMD considers up to 15.5 mm of rainfall as light rainfall, 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm as moderate, 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm as heavy, and 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm as very heavy rainfall.
Delhi's minimum temperature dropped by a degree to 27.0°C on Saturday. The maximum temperature is also expected to decrease gradually in the coming days and hover around 30–32°C by the middle of next week, as compared to 36.9°C recorded on Friday.
Air quality improved to the 'satisfactory' category by Saturday morning and was logged at 91 (satisfactory) at 9 am, compared to the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 136 (moderate) recorded at 4 pm on Friday, according to Central Pollution Control Board data.
IMD forecasts suggest similar weather conditions will continue, but no alerts have been issued for the weekend or the subsequent days.

IMD's forecast suggests the upcoming shift in the monsoon axis will pull in more moisture-laden winds into Delhi-NCR. Isolated heavy spells are expected on both July 28 and 29. Meanwhile in Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature, however, stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the maximum temperature is likely to go up to 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to be around 26-28 degrees Celsius.

Weather Office Predicts Thunderstorms With Rain In Delhi Today
New Delhi: The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, two notches above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Light showers were reported in parts of the city early morning, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.8 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above normal, it added. More rains are expected today, according to weather forecasts. In an X post, Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President of private weather forecasting agency Skymet, wrote, "Delhi, get ready to be drenched in monsoon showers on July 28 and 29. The LPA (low pressure area) will move south of Delhi over the northeast." The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain on Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures predicted to hover around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Relative humidity was recorded at 59 per cent at 5.30 pm on Sunday. The air quality was in the 'satisfactory' category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 87 at 4 pm, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.

Bengal to get more rain; South Bengal districts on Yellow alert

The weather bureau predicted light to moderate rainfall with possible thunderstorms in South Bengal districts like Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and Kolkata. State capital Kolkata experienced overcast conditions on Sunday, but there was only 0.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.2 degree Celsius on Sunday. Humidity levels were on the higher side, ranging from 83 per cent to 100 per cent. Meanwhile, the IMD has put North Bengal districts like Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar under an Orange alert (Be Prepared), expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) on Sunday. Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, and Kalimpong are under a Yellow alert and are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall. Warnings have been issued for possible lightning and local flooding in low-lying areas across the region. In its bulletin, the IMD also stated that a 'trough runs from cyclonic circulation associated with the well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood to northeast Bangladesh across northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and north Gangetic West Bengal between 0.9 to 5.8 km above mean sea level.' Under the influence of this strong monsoon flow, widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely to continue over West Bengal, with heavy rainfall activity expected at one or two places in some districts over the next few days.
