Ian Pilcher's late goal helps San Diego remain atop Western Conference, tie Whitecaps 1-1

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Ian Pilcher scored his first goal in MLS for San Diego FC in a 1-1 tie with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night in a matchup of the top-two teams in the Western Conference.
San Diego (13-7-4) leads the conference with 43 points and the Whitecaps have 42. Minnesota United is third with 41 points.
Pilcher, a 22-year-old rookie defender, made it 1-1 in the 80th minute. Anders Dreyer's corner kick was cleared by Vancouver before Luca Bombino misplayed a shot from the edge of the area that rolled to Pilcher for a first-touch finish from near the penalty spot.
Yohei Takaoka had five saves for Vancouver (12-5-6).
The Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead on a own goal in the 40th minute. Édier Ocampo, on the counter-attack, had his shot from the edge of the area parried by diving goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega before Manu Duah's clearance attempt went into the net.
Sisniega stopped three shots for SDFC.
San Diego had 59% possession and outshot the Whitecaps 17-9, 6-3 on target.

Red Sox 3-for-1 trade proposal dumps Jarren Duran to NL West squad

The Boston Red Sox could be a team to watch at the trade deadline. While they are in a position to be buyers, they have an All-Star on their team that could be traded. Jarren Duran has been mentioned in trade rumors all season. He was an All-Star last season, but he has seen a decline this year, and may be the odd man out in the Red Sox's outfield. Roman Anthony is not going to be traded. Ceddanne Rafaela has already signed an extension, and Wilyer Abreu is younger with more club control than Duran. The San Diego Padres are a team in need of an outfielder, and they could become a trade partner for Duran. FanSided's Chris Landers proposed this trade that would send Duran to the Padres: Red Sox receive: RHP Jeremiah Estrada, LHP Boston Bateman (Padres' No. 5 prospect) and 1B Romeo Sanabria (Padres' No. 16 prospect) Padres receive: OF Jarren Duran "Estrada fills Boston's biggest immediate need, a flame-throwing righty to pair with Aroldis Chapman to help Alex Cora navigate late-game situations with more confidence," wrote Landers. "Beyond the nominative determinism, Bateman would offer another arm for the team's future without Walker Buehler and potentially Lucas Giolito, while Sanabria is close to the Majors and would be some insurance for Triston Casas."Duran has multiple years of club control, so he will not be cheap in any trade. However, finding a partner will depend on which teams can provide the Red Sox with talent that can help them now and in the future. Even with Duran's numbers being down from last year, he would still be an upgrade for many teams. More MLB:

Vancouver Canucks' door remains open to Jack Roslovic: Report

The idea that Jack Roslovic could yet be a Vancouver Canuck isn't going away. CHEK-TV's Rick Dhaliwal has once again suggested that the Canucks and the free agent forward continue to speak, though, the veteran reporter underlined, it's not a lock that Roslovic, 28, is Vancouver-bound. 'For those asking, not sure where this goes, but the Canucks continue to talk with UFA Jack Roslovic's camp,' Dhaliwal wrote on X on Wednesday morning. Roslovic is coming off a 22-goal season with the Carolina Hurricanes, which tied a career high. The Canucks have a strong desire to add another second-line centre option, but would Roslovic truly be up to the task? He was among the low-minute men on a very deep Carolina roster, even with his impressive production. He's been a useful enough centreman over his career, though generally has only scored goals in the low teens. Still, he's averaged about 40 points per 82 games played, which is a low-end second line performer. The Canucks currently have Filip Chytil pencilled in as their second line centre. He did a good job after coming to Vancouver in the trade for J.T. Miller, but the speedy Czech has a long and concerning history with concussions, including one suffered with the Canucks. You can appreciate why the Canucks would be interested in a more durable solution to their second-line problem. Hence their continued interest in Roslovic, as well as their interest in Mason McTavish, the Anaheim Ducks' restricted free agent. pjohnston@ Have the Canucks created enough cap space to sign free agent Jack Roslovic?
