Germany starts hunt for more air defenses as Zelensky pleads for Patriots
Berlin aims to potentially surpass the sum of 1 billion euros which it collected with a similar initiative last year, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told reporters in Brussels.
He was speaking before a meeting of the Ramstein group of some 50 nations set up by the U.S. to coordinate military aid. It has been co-chaired by Germany and Britain since Washington decided to no longer lead the group.
Washington was represented by its NATO Ambassador Matthew Whitaker, with U.S. Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth expected to join a day later for a meeting with his NATO counterparts.
Addressing the gathering at NATO's Brussels headquarters online, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky repeated his calls for more air defenses to protect Ukrainians, in particular for Patriot or similar systems.

Foreign Ministry defends Rajji's Brussels participation, denies meeting with Israeli official
Lebanon's Foreign Ministry pushed back Wednesday against Israeli interpretations of Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji's participation in a European Union regional conference, saying claims he engaged with his Israeli counterpart distort the facts. In a statement, the ministry clarified that Rajji did not meet or speak with the Israeli foreign minister during the Brussels gathering. EU council sanctions Iran individuals over human rights violations
The European Council said in a statement on Tuesday it had imposed sanctions on eight people and one entity from Iran over "serious human rights violations" and "transnational repression." The statement said they are responsible for abuses on behalf of Iranian state bodies outside of Iran, in particular extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions and killings, as well as enforced disappearances of people deemed to be opponents of or critical of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
