‘You don't know the population?' Tucker Carlson grills Senator Cruz on Iran; conservative rift deepens
A preview of Wednesday's Tucker Carlson Show shows a fiery on-air argument between conservative host Tucker Carlson and Republican Senator Ted Cruz. The two clashed over US involvement in the ongoing Israel–Iran conflict, at one point shouting over each other.
Cruz, who recently told Fox News it was 'very much in the interest of America to see regime change' in Iran, faced sharp questions from Carlson..
'How many people live in Iran by the way?' Carlson asked.
'I don't know the population,' Cruz replied.
'You don't know the population of the country you seek to topple?' Carlson pressed.
'I don't sit around memorising population tables,' Cruz shot back.
'Well, it's kinda relevant because you're calling for the overthrow of the government,' Carlson responded.
Their exchange grew more tense as they debated the ethnic makeup of Iran. 'I am not the Tucker Carlson expert on Iran!' Cruz shouted.
Carlson replied, 'No you're a senator who is calling to overthrow the country and you don't know anything about the country!'
Cruz accused Carlson of not knowing much either: 'You're the one who claims they're not trying to murder Donald Trump.' Carlson denied making such a claim and said he doubted Cruz believed that Iran was trying to assassinate Trump—arguing that if Cruz truly believed that, he would be pushing for direct US strikes.
Cruz is one of several lawmakers, both Republican and Democrat, who support a more active US role in the conflict.
Tucker Carlson has also turned against his former network and Donald Trump over their stance on the Iran–Israel conflict. Speaking on Steve Bannon's War Room recently, Carlson accused Fox News of pushing propaganda to promote military escalation.
'What they are doing is what they always do—turning up the propaganda hose to full blast and trying to knock elderly Fox viewers off their feet,' he said.
Carlson criticised Trump directly, saying the US president had become 'complicit in an act of war' following Israel's missile strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
When asked about Carlson's remarks during the G7 summit, Trump dismissed him with a jab: 'I don't know what Tucker Carlson is saying. Let him go get a television network and say it so that people listen.'
Israel launched a major offensive against Iran last Thursday, striking its nuclear sites and top military leadership. The attacks damaged key infrastructure and killed several nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missile strikes of its own, escalating tensions further. US president Donald Trump is now said to be considering a direct strike on Iran's underground nuclear facility in Fordow, as regional tensions continue to rise.

'India is set to become the world's third-largest economy… therefore, India must remain vigilant about its economic interests. Our farmers, our small industries, employment for our youth… their interests are paramount for us. The government is making every effort in this direction," he said while addressing a gatheirng in Varanasi. What's In The Opinion Piece? It said that the Indian economy is 'alive and kicking" as the country achieved a commendable real GDP growth rate of 6.5 per cent in the fiscal year 2024–25 (FY25), with nominal GDP growth at 9.8 per cent. The current account deficit (CAD) is projected at a mere 0.9 per cent in FY26, while the fiscal deficit is estimated at 4.4 per cent, according to a CareEdge Ratings report. It said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has undergone a transformative economic journey with a focus on infrastructure development and digitalisation. Everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact… The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani…" Gandhi said. Gandhi further alleged that the BJP government has destroyed India's economic, defence and foreign policy. 'PM Modi works only for one person- Adani. This (India-US trade) deal will take place, and PM Modi will do exactly what Trump says," he said. Trump's 25% Tariff Move Earlier this week, the US President had announced to impose a 25 per cent tariff on all goods coming from India starting August 1, plus an unspecified penalty for buying Russian crude oil and military equipment. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump cited India's high tariffs, stringent non-monetary trade barriers, and continued military and energy ties with Russia as the basis for the move. He had also criticised India's trade policies and its ties with Russia. In his post, Trump dismissed concerns over India's relationship with Moscow, stating, 'I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care." Iran Hits Back At U.S., Europe Over Terror Claims, Slams 'Baseless' Allegations And Hypocrisy
/ Aug 02, 2025, 03:09PM IST Iran has firmly rejected accusations from 14 Western nations alleging its involvement in overseas plots against dissidents. In a strongly worded statement, the Iranian embassy in Poland dismissed the claims as politically driven and lacking credible evidence. Tehran accused the West of hypocrisy—sheltering anti-Iran terror groups while blaming Iran for extraterritorial activities. The embassy cited Denmark's handling of the 2018 Ahvaz attack and Albania's support for the Mujahedin Khalq Organisation (MKO) as examples of selective justice. Watch
