Free NEET coaching for Class XI and XII students of Corporation schools was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Sidhapudur Corporation Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore city.
District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, and Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran participated in the event and distributed study materials to students.
Addressing the students, the District Collector encouraged them to remain dedicated and approach their studies with humility. Stating that no barriers existed for government school students, he urged them to aim to clear the NEET exam in their first attempt. He noted that students from government schools had shown individual interest, and that the higher education enrolment rate had now crossed 96%.
Mr. Rajkumar said this was the second consecutive year the NEET coaching was being offered. He added that Tamil Nadu students were performing well in academics and that students belonging to the 7.5% reservation category need not worry about fees, as the government will cover them.
Corporation Commissioner said that last year the coaching started only in October, whereas this year it had begun earlier. 'Last year, eight students qualified through the coaching; four of them are likely to get MBBS seats and the others have chances in BDS,' he said. He also thanked the Times NEET Coaching Institute for providing the coaching free of cost.
A total of 126 students—25 boys and 101 girls —have been selected for the coaching programme. Transportation and food will be arranged for the students. The coaching sessions will be held twice a week.

Indian Army's Super-50 initiative helps 44 Manipur students clear NEET, JEE

IMPHAL: Indian Army felicitated 44 Manipur students who cleared JEE and NEET examinations this year after being trained at the Red Shield Centre for Excellence and Wellness, commonly known as 'Manipur Super-50', officials said on Wednesday. Defence spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla said that six out of these 44 students cleared both the NEET and JEE exams. Philem Jenin Singh is one of the Manipur state NEET toppers with a 97.06 percentile. Lt Col Shukla said that Manipur Super-50 is an initiative supported by the Indian Army in collaboration with National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO), aimed at providing free, high-quality coaching, mentorship and resources to talented students from underprivileged backgrounds in the state. This dedicated support has empowered many students to secure admissions in premier medical and engineering institutes across the country, transforming their aspirations into reality, he said. In NEET-2025, 37 students from the Super-50 successfully cleared the exam, marking a significant achievement for the programme. Despite numerous challenges, these students have displayed extraordinary resilience, dedication and focus, the spokesman said. According to Lt Col Shukla, many have been studying under difficult conditions, often amidst disruptions to normal life. Their success stands as a testament to their unyielding determination to pursue education, build a brighter future and be a responsible citizen. During the ceremony held in the Bishnupur district on Tuesday, Army and civil administration officials congratulated the successful students and interacted warmly with their parents, acknowledging the sacrifices and support provided by families. The hard work of the students and determination have brought pride to their families and communities, and their success reflects the positive impact of the Super 50 initiative, the official said. He said that their outstanding performance is a testament to their perseverance, as well as the focused mentorship and support provided under the Super-50 initiative. In JEE-2025, 13 students from the Super-50 qualified for the exam, showcasing the programme's academic excellence and commitment to nurturing future engineers. Prizes were presented to the achievers as a token of appreciation and encouragement. Parents expressed deep gratitude to the Indian Army for nurturing and guiding their children. The Indian Army reiterated its steadfast commitment to promoting education and youth empowerment in Manipur, emphasising that initiatives like the Red Shield Centre for Excellence and Wellness 'Manipur Super-50' not only transform individual lives but also contribute significantly to peace and progress in society, the defence PRO said. This event stood as a powerful symbol of hope, collaboration, and the limitless potential of Manipur's youth, he added. Bishnupur district Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar Ksh, and NIEDO Director Rohit Shrivastava were present in the felicitation ceremony. Adyar pavement work drags on for 2 months

Chennai: A pavement project on Gandhi Nagar 1st Main Road at Adyar, meant to be completed in three weeks, has stretched to nearly two months, with exposed cables, missing concrete slabs, and unsafe conditions forcing pedestrians on to busy roads. The 200m-long median walkway between the main road and service lane remains incomplete, leaving senior citizens and pedestrians to navigate a hazardous path. At multiple locations, trees have been encased in concrete with no space left for water percolation. Several slabs are stacked along the service road, eating into parking space and blocking pedestrian movement. "Workers don't come regularly. If the Corporation takes up a job, it should finish it," said Ramesh, an auto driver who frequently commutes on the stretch. The work needs to be completed urgently," said a local. Though the area falls under the bus route roads department, the pavement work is being handled by the zonal office. Assistant commissioner Heartin Rozario of zone 13 said steps would be taken to speed up the work. Ward committee chairman Durairaj attributed the delay to a CM event scheduled nearby. "Workers were diverted for arrangements. I will inspect the stretch and ensure the pavement is completed in the next two-three days," he said. Councillor of ward 173, Subashini Durai, did not respond to calls.
