Glasgow judo champion named winner at Young Scot Awards
The competition, which is the only national awards ceremony for young people in Scotland, is designed to recognise positive role models who are helping to inspire future generations.

Rebecca was awarded the accolade for her "outstanding work" to make judo more accessible and inclusive.
The young champion has used her martial arts experience to create female-only judo sessions at Clyde Judo Club in Paisley, hoping to create a safe space for women and girls.
These sessions became an immediate sell-out success, leading Rebecca to start up another set of judo classes for refugees.
Rebecca received her award from the event's headline sponsor sportscotland.
She said: "I'm absolutely buzzing to win this award.
"I've been involved with judo since I was eight, and it has given me so much confidence and community over the years.
"I wanted to pass that on, especially to women, girls, and people who might not otherwise get the chance to try it.
"Seeing the classes grow and watching people find their strength on the mat has been incredible.
"This is just the beginning."
The awards ceremony, put on at Platform in Glasgow, was a vibrant celebration of Scotland's young people.
Hosted by Capital DJ Katy J, the awards night also featured a live DJ, mocktail reception, and silent disco.

Katy J said: 'It's honestly such a joy to be part of the Young Scot Awards again.
"I always leave feeling so inspired by the energy, passion, and kindness of young people.
"They are doing the most incredible things, often quietly, without expecting recognition.
"That's why nights like this matter so much, to shine a light on their stories.
Natalie Don-Innes, Minister for Children and Young People, presented Ellie Hodge, 17, with the overall Young Scot of the Year award for her dedication to supporting students with additional support needs.
Kirsten Urquhart, chief executive of Young Scot, said: "These awards highlight the extraordinary impact young people have across Scotland every day.
"Rebecca and Ellie's stories are proof that when supported and celebrated, young people become powerful drivers of change."
The winners were also praised for their amazing efforts by Scotland's First Minister John Swinney.
He said: "Congratulations to the finalists and young people from every corner of Scotland.
"Thank you for what you are doing to help your communities, for your dedication, your enthusiasm, and for going above and beyond to make Scotland the place we want it to be – a place of connection, kindness and compassion."

It comes after the Beckham's launched a huge Netflix documentary about their lives away from the cameras. "That took me completely by surprise," she said of the Beckham documentary, adding: "Let's call it what it was: him trying to portray an image of perfection that was nothing like reality. "It felt unjust that my life was pretty hell, and his life kept going and kept blossoming. I've been accused of being a liar. I've had a lifetime of opinions around me, and I've definitely developed thick skin. "I think the public opinion now has softened, at least from what I'm gathering since the documentary came out with the Beckhams a couple of years ago. I think it is now because thanks to social media, there is a whole different following out there, which is a double-edged sword." But while she feels it's unjust, she admits some of the blame lies with her. In a press pack, Rebecca said: "I think I've definitely taken most of the blame – rightly so. It was part of my life. He was older than me, he was my boss. But I'm not someone to be silenced when I've been wronged, and that documentary took absolutely no responsibility. "When he said, 'It was so horrible to see my wife suffer,' I thought, 'Mate, think twice about the things you do.'" Like all the recruits, Rebecca faced a grilling in the show's Mirror Room. Jason Fox and Chris Oliver questioned her motives for being on the show before asking how she felt about her affair with Beckham now that she's had the time to reflect on it. In his Netflix 2023 documentary, Beckham didn't name Rebecca and failed to take any accountability. He just said: "I don't know how we got through it in all honesty," on a tricky time when he lived in Madrid. On being asked about Beckham on the Channel 4 show and what she feels about how things have played out, she added: "I was quite guarded at the beginning. I was trying to be guarded because it's not something I want to talk about the whole time. But at the same time I also wanted to be honest with them, so they were really good at getting through to me. "They're obviously professionals at this. I don't shy away from what I've been through, and I don't shy away from the decisions that I've made. They have shaped me into who I am, and I've really learnt a lot from the mistakes that I've made in my life and the things that I've done. And I really do think that being truthful is the only way to go in life. I'll stand by that forever. "It takes a lot of courage to tell the truth and to own up to mistakes that you have made, mistakes and times in your life you're not proud of. And it's very easy to just brush them under the carpet and move on. That's like the coward's way, I think, of living."

Netflix show boss fires back after raunchy TV series is labelled 'vulgar'
The showrunner of a wild new Netflix show has defended the program after viewers branded it 'vulgar viewing. The Hunting Wives was released earlier this month, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by May Cobb, with Brittany Snow, Dermot Mulroney and Malin Åkerman among the star-studded cast. It follows Sophie (Brittany) who moves to Texas with her family and becomes very close to mysterious socialite Margo (Malin) and her group of wealthy friends. Her new life is thrown into chaos when she's warned that she has 'no idea what these people are capable of', with a dead body turning up soon after. The must-watch thriller has divided viewers, leaving many hooked over the 'bonkers' plot, while other turned off just minutes into the first episode. Amid the huge reaction, showrunner Rebecca Cutter shared her excitement at highlighting a 'fun' series focusing on women unapologetically behaving badly. 'It's so fun, and juicy and sexy. Everyone is behaving so badly,' she told the New York Post. 'I wanted to do an exploration of women behaving badly, unapologetic sexual conquest running rampant, and just something fun.' One specific plot that had some viewers up in arms was the affair between Margo and her friend's son, 18-year-old Brad – which takes a turn when she gets pregnant. 'It was important to find an actress, not necessarily that was willing to do nudity per se, but that really felt comfortable with the sexuality and owning that power that she has,' Rebecca said of the steamy scenes. 'I think there's a fantasy of freedom or power that maybe we don't feel so much as middle-aged women. 'I just think TV has evolved. The first anti-heroes were all men. 'Now, there can be more female anti-heroes and I certainly think Margot Banks falls into that category.' 'It's rare. I also think it's real. I have single friends [who are] women of a certain age…young men always are interested in them….that is a very real thing,' she added of portraying their romance. 'And so, I think that that's cool to show.' Rebecca's comments come after viewers rushed online to share their thoughts about the Hunting Wives – which currently commands a Rotten Tomatoes score of 82% from critics, compared to 68% from fans. Although many described the series as 'a soapy good time' and 'super trashy fun', some were left taken aback by the plot. Rotten Tomatoes user Z H posted: 'Vulgar viewing. I couldn't make it past the first 20 minutes of the first episode. More Trending 'In those 20 minutes a woman uses paper towels as a maxi pad, and makes eye contact with a young man while he is masterbating in front of his girlfriend. Gross [sic].' Mark M agreed: 'Entertaining enough but felt mostly like a bad soap opera that leaned heavily into unnecessary, perverted sexual content. Countless cringe-worthy scenes.' Ayr rugby chiefs lodge fresh plans as they seek approval for phase three Millbrae redevelopment

Top brass at Ayr Rugby Club have lodged fresh proposals for the multi-million pound redevelopment of their home at Millbrae. With work now complete on phases one and two of the ambitious project, rugby chiefs now hope to get the green light so they can plough ahead with the latest stage of the club's transformation. Phase one involved improved access to Millbrae, while phase two involved the installation of an all-weather pitch. Now phase three involves the refurbishment of the Millbrae clubhouse. Agents in this latest proposal are Jewitt & Wilkie Architects and central to the plan is the building of a new strength and conditioning gym. Also included in the design plans are a golf simulator room, club merchandise shop, multi-use rooms and more. General internal and external alterations to the Millbrae clubhouse are also being proposed in order to make the club's base one of the most modern around. The design and access statement said: 'Ayr Rugby Football Club (ARFC) propose to carry out an extensive Clubhouse refurbishment as part of a third phase in their redevelopment of Millbrae. 'Planning approvals have been granted by South Ayrshire Council for a new access road (Phase 1) and an all-weather pitch (Phase 2) and this application marks the third phase of the Club's redevelopment, which was made possible through the £3m Macdonald Legacy Award.' The statement continues: 'A third planning application (Phase 3) was submitted to South Ayrshire Council on 5th August 2024, which proposed internal and external changes, with a Strength and Conditioning Gym and Café extension to the north of the Clubhouse. 'This application was withdrawn due to the club's strategy to provide 'sports-based facilities' based upon detailed studies of alternative locations for new facilities to derive the optimum solution for the available funds. Much of the internal Clubhouse refurbishment remains the same in this submission.' The works involve the following: • Gym Extension to meet Sportscotland and Scottish Rugby Union criteria for strength and conditioning. The gym will also serve as a daytime 'leisure' provision to the local community and to provide valuable income and activity within the Club. • Upgrading and increase in capacity of male, female and accessible toilet (baby changing) facilities. • 'Clean' and 'Dirty' changing facilities for the new all-weather and existing grass pitches to meet Sportscotland and Scottish Rugby Union requirements for male, female, disabled and gender-neutral users. • New referees' changing for male and female match officials. • Refurbishment and internal alteration of bar, lounge and functions area, with associated works to the kitchen area. • Upgrading of the thermal fabric of the Clubhouse including the installation of energy efficient heating, lighting, ventilation and foul/surface water management systems. • New PV panels and low carbon heating installations. The proposals represent an overall increase in area of the existing Clubhouse of 288sqm. The design statement adds: 'The Clubhouse extension, refurbishment and external works serve to create a contemporary environment to reflect Ayr RFC's established achievements and ambitions, however, to respect the Club's rich history and tradition. 'The upgrading and extension will create a sporting complex to support an even greater community and commercial involvement and to provide facilities that met, or exceeded the standards required by the Scottish Rugby Union and Sportscotland. 'In addition to the support of existing uses, the addition of the strength and conditioning gym, club merchandise shop, golf simulator, multi-use spaces and enhanced facilities will increase capacity, participation and provide a facility used all year round and not just within the rugby calendar.' The proposals are listed as 'pending consideration' on South Ayrshire Council's online planning portal and a decision on them is expected around the middle of September.
