#SHOWBIZ: Ellen DeGeneres on UK move: 'Life is just better here' following Trump re-election

CHELTENHAM: Veteran American TV personality Ellen DeGeneres has made her inaugural public appearance in the UK, revealing that her decision to relocate to England was directly prompted by Donald Trump's re-election as US president.
Speaking to an audience in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, the comedian and host declared that life across the pond "is just better."
DeGeneres, 67, shared that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are contemplating a renewed marriage ceremony in England.
This consideration comes in light of recent legislative efforts in the US to roll back LGBTQ+ rights, a situation that, according to DeGeneres, can still make America "scary for people to be who they are."

During her conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon at the Everyman Theatre, DeGeneres also addressed the allegations of a toxic workplace environment that ultimately led to the conclusion of her long-running chat show in 2022.
While admitting she could be "very blunt," she largely dismissed the claims as mere "clickbait."
A prominent figure in US TV for three decades, DeGeneres is known for her daytime talk show, a self-titled 1990s sitcom, and her roles as host of the Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys, as well as voicing Dory in Disney's Finding Nemo.
After her talk show's cancellation, she embarked on a "final stand-up tour" in the US in 2024 before purchasing a property in the picturesque Cotswolds.
DeGeneres clarified that she and de Rossi initially intended to spend only three to four months annually in the UK, acquiring what they believed would be a "part-time house."
However, their plans drastically shifted. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in'," she said.
"And we're like, 'We're staying here'."
Since their November move, DeGeneres has offered glimpses of her new rural lifestyle on social media, sharing videos of her farm animals, which included sheep that have since been sold because they kept escaping.
"It's absolutely beautiful," she said about her new home.
"We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture - everything you see is charming, and it's just a simpler way of life. It's clean.
"Everything here is just better - the way animals are treated, and people are polite."

Indonesian boy goes viral for boat race moves, named tourism ambassador [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media has a peculiar way of turning the obscure into global trends, as seen in the case of an Indonesian boy whose commanding presence during a Pacu Jalur boat race went viral and captured the hearts of people worldwide. Rayyan Arkan Dikha, or Dika, 11, was recorded moving rhythmically at the tip of a long wooden boat during the Pacu Jalur festival in Kuantan Singingi. Wearing a black traditional outfit and sunglasses, his composed expression and deliberate gestures drew massive attention online, leading to countless remakes, memes and tributes. The clip quickly turned into a global trend, catching the attention of sports personalities and celebrities. American football star Travis Kelce, Formula One driver Alex Albon, and football players from Paris Saint-Germain were among those who uploaded their own versions of Dika's moves. According to BBC Indonesia, Dika had not planned the dance in advance, it came naturally during the race. As the Togak Luan, his role is to stand at the front of the boat and inspire the rowers with expressive movements while maintaining balance throughout the race. The Pacu Jalur celebration is one of Riau's most important cultural events. Longboats glide along the Batang Kuantan River in front of cheering crowds. The races are accompanied by traditional performances, music, and exhibitions on the riverbanks. In the viral footage, Dika is seen in a Teluk Belanga outfit paired with a Riau-style headcloth. His gestures include sweeping arms, rotating fists, and forward poses, all performed without breaking focus. Despite the surge in popularity, Dika has remained humble. The 11-year-old said he is happy to see people around the world enjoying and imitating the dance. "My friends always tell me I've gone viral," he told BBC Indonesia. In appreciation of his role in preserving cultural heritage, he was named a cultural ambassador last week by the governor of Riau, his home province.

#SHOWBIZ: Grammy-winning US jazz musician Chuck Mangione dies

ROCHESTER: American two-time Grammy-winning jazz flugelhorn player Chuck Mangione, best known for his 1970s cross-over hit "Feels So Good," died this week at age 84 at his home in Rochester, New York. The prolific musician and composer — whose career spanned five decades and 30 albums — died in his sleep on Tuesday, a local funeral home said. "Chuck's love affair with music has been characterised by his boundless energy, unabashed enthusiasm, and pure joy that radiated from the stage," his family said in a statement to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle newspaper. Mangione showed his appreciation for his audiences by sitting at the edge of the stage after his concerts, signing autographs for fans who stayed to meet him and the band, it said. Born Charles Frank Mangione in 1940 in Rochester, he was a virtuoso flugelhorn and trumpet player. He grew up in a household where his father exposed him to the jazz greats of the 1950s, including Dizzy Gillespie, a family friend who dined with them frequently. He began taking music lessons at age 8, and by the time he was a teenager, Gillespie was so impressed by his musical prowess that he gave Mangione one of his trademark "upswept" trumpets. His composition "Chase The Clouds Away" was featured at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, while his "Give It All You Got" was the theme music for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. Mangione's biggest hit was his 1977 single "Feels So Good," which reached No.4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammys. His album by the same name is a staple on smooth jazz radio stations. Mangione won two Grammys out of 14 nominations — the first in 1977 for best instrumental composition for "Bellavia," named in honour of his mother. In 1979, he won in the best pop instrumental performance category for "The Children of Sanchez." The latter, a soundtrack for the movie of the same name, also won a Golden Globe. In the late 1990s, Mangione's music attracted new fans after he played himself on the Fox TV cartoon show "King of the Hill" as a celebrity spokesman for the fictional "Mega-lo-mart," with the slogan "shopping feels so good." He also scored the music for the 1998 Valentine's Day episode.

REUTERS/Octavio Jones ISTANBUL, July 25 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, died on Thursday at the age of 71 in the US state of Florida, Anadolu Ajansi reported. The Clearwater Police Department said officers and fire personnel responded to a medical emergency involving Hogan in the morning. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital. There has been no official reason for his death; however, American entertainment news outlet TMZ reported it was due to cardiac arrest. bootstrap slideshow World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) offered condolences on X. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture's most recognisable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s," it said. US President Donald Trump paid tribute to Hogan, calling him a "great friend", and noted his political support. "Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart," Trump wrote on Truth Social. Hogan made an appearance at a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden last October. He entered to his iconic Real American theme song, waving an American flag. The wrestler then performed his trademark shirt-ripping act, unveiling a Trump shirt underneath. Hogan became one of pop culture's most recognisable figures, helping the WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s with his "Hulkamania" phenomenon. His six WWE championship reigns included a historic 1,474-day title run, one of the longest in company history. Hogan's legendary moments included slamming Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 3 and his shocking heel turn — joining the New World Order (nWo) in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1996. His 1988 match against André the Giant drew 33 million viewers with a 15.2 Nielsen rating — still an American television wrestling viewership record.
