Report: Vanderbilt forward Chris Mañon to sign two-way contract with Lakers

USA Today21-07-2025
The Los Angeles Lakers plan to sign 7-footer Christian Koloko and forward Chris Manon on two-way NBA contracts, sources tell ESPN. Manon, undrafted out of Vanderbilt, played for the Warriors in California and Las Vegas summer leagues. Koloko played 37 games for L.A. last season.
Former Vanderbilt forward Chris Mañon has reportedly agreed to sign a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Mañon averaged 6.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.3 assists and one block on 53.3% shooting from the field in 33 games last season as a senior. He finished in double figures six times, including a season-high 23 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Missouri on March 1.
The 6-foot-5 standout played the first three years of college at Cornell and was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection as a junior, averaging 12.5 points, four rebounds, three assists and 2.2 steals. He led the conference in steals and steal percentage (5.5).
Mañon played with the Golden State Warriors in the California Classic and NBA Summer League, averaging nine points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks on 44.2% shooting from the field in seven appearances. He finished with a 17-point performance on Saturday.
The 23-year-old will split his time next season between the NBA and the South Bay Lakers in the G League. He is eligible to be active for up to 50 games in the NBA and will earn $636,435, equal to 50% of the minimum salary applicable to a player with zero years of service.
Mañon will now have the chance to begin his career with the Lakers and develop within the organization. He is expected to be the third player signed to a two-way contract by the team, along with Eric Dixon and Christian Koloko.

Timberwolves sign forward whose only college choice was to walk-on after academic scholarship

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a new two-way player. His name is Enrique Freeman, and he's got one of the most inspirational stories in the NBA. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the signing on Friday morning. Freeman was cut by the Pacers after averaging 16.6 points per game in Summer League. Freeman's journey didn't always look destined for professional basketball. He had no college basketball offers out of high school in the Cleveland area, so he accepted an academic scholarship at the University of Akron and walked-on to the basketball team. Freeman grew four inches before his sophomore year of college and became a star in the MAC. After Akron, Freeman was the 50th overall pick in 2024 and played 22 NBA games as a rookie, averaging 2.1 points in 8.2 minutes per game. MORE: Bronny James reveals health issue caused by heart defect, cardiac arrest In the G League, he put up 16.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. And then in Summer League this year, he averaged 16.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 72.5% from the floor and 55.6% from 3. Freeman seems like the kind of late bloomer who can legitimately help a contending team. The Timberwolves won't need him to be a high-usage player, of course. But he can do so many different things on the floor that he should find a way to fit in when called upon in the NBA portion of his two-way contract. And he's worked so hard to get to this point. Sixers' VJ Edgecombe pulls up to Tyrese Maxey Foundation golf tournament

Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe was among the players who stopped by to support the Tyrese Maxey Foundation at a celebrity golf tournament on Friday. Edgecombe was spotted at The Union League Golf Club for a round of 18 holes, along with Justin Edwards, Kyle Lowry and Maxey. The tournament was part of the foundation's second annual "Friends & Family Weekend" in Philadelphia. Maxey will also host a basketball camp on Saturday, helping players aged 7-12 improve as overall athletes through game skills, intensive training, on-court instruction and more. Edgecombe was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, averaging 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals on 34% shooting from 3-point range at Baylor. He finished in double figures 27 times, including a season-high 30 points on Jan. 22 in a win over Kansas State. The third pick debuted with the Sixers in the NBA Summer League, averaging 21.5 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks on 42.5% shooting from the field. He was limited to two appearances due to a left thumb sprain. Edgecombe has had a brief opportunity to ingratiate himself with the team and city since joining the organization. He appears to be building good chemistry with his teammates, which should enable him to have a smooth transition to the NBA next season.
