Netizens divided as friends party through grief at Beyoncé concert after heartbreaking loss

Two friends attend a Beyoncé concert after tragically losing their third friend and the internet is judging them.

A group of friends took the phrase 'life goes on' quite literally when they continued to attend Beyoncé's concert in Paris after one of their friends, who was initially meant to go with them, died.
A TikToker by the name of Victornotvicor has ignited a firestorm of debate among other TikTok users, who criticised his decision, along with his friend, to proceed with attending the concert instead of mourning their friend.
He shared a TikTok clip that shows all three friends jamming out to Beyoncé's 'Cozy' before suddenly transitioning to two of them at the concert, but there is one thing that has changed: one friend is missing.
The caption of the video reads: 'He would've liked that we went anyway', implying that one friend flatlined on the way to the concert, but the show went on anyway because that's what he would have wanted.
According to Victornotvicor's follow-up video, the friend who passed away had a pre-existing heart condition and started experiencing chest pains on the way to the concert.
Things took a turn for the worse when he fainted after getting off the train, and the paramedics confirmed he had stopped breathing.
'Going to a Beyoncé concert was a lifelong dream of ours. We were really excited, so we filmed the first part of the TikTok.
'We wanted to do the before and after transition at the concert, but by the time we got to the subway, he started feeling really strong chest pains and we were worried because it got worse. We called the ambulance, and by the time they arrived, he had fainted,' he said.
Yet, the two friends rocked on to Beyoncé, motivated by their deceased friend's love for the multi-award-winning artist.
'My other friend and I didn't know if we should go home, so we decided to go to the concert anyway because we really truly think that's what he would have liked and that's what Beyoncé would have liked in his honour,' said @victornotvictor.
The reactions were a mixed bag, with many TikTokers criticising the friends for prioritising the concert over their deceased friend's well-being. Some were shocked and questioned the genuineness of the friendship.
'Wait...on the way to the concert, he passed, y'all still went and finished the TikTok? All in one day?!? 😳,' asked @KrystalR.
Another TikTok user @GenevieveJ commented: 'Y'all definitely were just acquaintances because there's no way I would've been able to see through the tears for months.'
Additionally, the controversy highlights a broader issue, which is how social media has desensitised people to sensitive topics.
What is interesting is that many commenters seemed to agree with Victornotvicor's decision, saying they would want their friends to continue with their plans if they were in a similar situation.
'Why are people mad? I would want my friends to go if I died, y'all are crazy. Life doesn't stop when yours does. I'd haunt you from the grave if you didn't go to a Beyoncé concert just because I died,' said @evancurtisx.
This raises questions about how people process and respond to death and grief in the age of social media. Are they becoming more accepting of unconventional ways of grieving, or are they just losing touch with traditional norms?
The debate surrounding Victornotvicor's video serves as a reflection of how social media is changing the values and norms surrounding grief and mourning.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez tied the knot in a divided Venice

Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez tied the knot Friday at a sumptuous ceremony with the rich and famous. Image: Instagram/laurensanchezbezos Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez tied the knot Friday at a sumptuous ceremony with the rich and famous on an island in Venice's lagoon, out of the sight and sound of protesters. "This city seems impossible! It can't exist and yet, here it is!" an enchanted Bezos told a La Repubblica journalist Thursday who got close to the magnate as he whizzed around the canals by boat. But protesters had a different view, wondering how long Venice can endure: While the billionaires party, activists say the fragile city is sinking, overrun by tourists, and a victim of depopulation as locals unable to pay soaring rents are forced out. "No Kings, No Bezos" read a sign in green neon projected on the St Mark's Campanile tower on Thursday night. Serenaded Sanchez late Friday posted a photo on Instagram, under a new name, laurensanchezbezos, showing her in a long flowing white dress and him in black tie, though it did not provide any indication where it was taken. Bezos and Sanchez, a former news anchor and entertainment reporter, celebrated their nuptials with guests including Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom. The tech magnate, 61, and Sanchez, 55, are staying at the Aman hotel, a luxury 16th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal with a view of the Rialto bridge. Other A-list guests are staying at the Gritti Palace and the St. Regis. The couple exchanged vows at a black-tie ceremony on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore Friday afternoon, according to Italian media reports. The wedding is thought to have taken place in a vast open-air amphitheatre on the island, which sits across from Venice's iconic St Mark's Square. The newlyweds were to be serenaded by Matteo Bocelli, son of the famed opera singer Andrea Bocelli, reports said. Michelin-starred chef Fabrizio Mellino prepared the wedding dinner, while the cake has been made by French pastry chef Cedric Grolet, the Corriere della Sera said. Sanchez is alleged to have prepared 27 outfits to wear during the festivities. Video Player is loading. The guests reportedly lunched Thursday in the gardens of Villa Baslini, on the islet of San Giovanni Evangelista. The celebrations are set to end Saturday with a party likely at the Arsenale, a vast shipyard complex dating back to when the city was a naval powerhouse. Bezos and Sanchez are donating three million euros ($3.5 million) to the city, according to Veneto's regional president Luca Zaia, and are employing historic Venetian artisans. Venice's oldest pastry maker Rosa Salva is baking 19th-century "fishermen's biscuits" for party bags that will also contain something by Laguna B, renowned for its handblown Murano glass. Trump and her family visited a glass-blowing workshop on the small island of Murano on Wednesday, according to the owner. "They were amazed and enchanted by the magic of glass," Massimiliano Schiavon told the Corriere della Sera, adding that the family had a go at blowing glass. Venice, home to the oldest film festival in the world, is used to VIPs whizzing around in speed boats, and happily hosted the star-studded nuptials of Hollywood actor George Clooney in 2014. Some say this wedding too brings good business. Italy's tourism ministry said Friday it expected the wedding to bring the city nearly one billion euros, with about 895 million of that estimated to come from the "media visibility" generated. US reality TV personality Kim Kardashian (L) and Khloe Kardashian leave the Gritti Palace Hotel on the wedding day of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with Lauren Sanchez, in Venice on June 27, 2025. Image: Andrea Pattaro/AFP But critics say Bezos, one of the world's richest men and founder of a company regularly scrutinised for how it treats its workers, is different. "Tax Billionaires", read protest signs along canals. "In the time it takes you to read this, Jeff Bezos's wealth has increased by more than your monthly salary", they read in English and Italian. Environmental activists have also pointed to the carbon footprint of the mega yachts and dozens of private jets -- at least 95 -- bringing the rich and famous to the city. But Samuel Silvestri, a 55-year-old salesman, welcomed the extravaganza. "Over-tourism is caused by those people who come with a backpack and their own food, and contribute very little," he said, "not those who transform Venice into a mini-Monte Carlo. This marriage helps the image of the city." Italy's health ministry has issued a red heat alert for Venice for the weekend, part of a heatwave affecting much of southern Europe. AFP

Carte Blanche: Fake injectors

On Sunday, 29 June, the episode of Carte Blanche investigates the rise of fake cosmetic injectors operating in an unregulated and dangerous underground industry. In a society increasingly driven by the pursuit of flawless skin, unlicensed individuals with no medical training or oversight are administering fillers and Botox, putting countless lives at risk. These procedures, widely promoted across social media, have become part of a booming, illegal market where profit often takes precedence over safety. The exposé raises a critical question: What is the real price people pay, physically and emotionally, for cheap beauty enhancements? Carte Blanche is a South African investigative journalism television series that airs on M-Net every Sunday at 19:00. Its first episode aired on 21 August 1988 and over the last 34-plus years has earned credibility among South African viewers for its investigation into corruption, consumer issues, and current events.
