Jadeja scored twin fifties (72 and 61*) for India in the Lord's Test but failed to help Shubman Gill-led side get the better of Ben Stokes & Co.
The third Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England ended with a 22-run win for the hosts on Monday (July 14). In reply to the 193-run target set by the English team, India, despite an unbeaten 61-run knock from 181 balls by Ravindra Jadeja, could only manage to score 170 runs in 74.5 overs. Jadeja, who tops the ICC Test all-rounder's ranking, tried his best with the bat to keep India's chances alive of securing a famous win at the Home of Cricket, but he failed to seal the deal.
Despite not being able to help India get the better of England in the Lord's Test, Jadeja earned a lot of praise for his knock from fans and experts of the game, but his twin half-centuries (72 and 61) were not enough to help him bag the Player of the Match award.
Instead, the POTM award in the third India-England Test was won by England Test captain Ben Stokes. The 34-year-old all-rounder, who shared the dressing room with Jadeja during his time as a Chennai Super Kings player in IPL 2023, scored 44 and 33 runs in two innings of the Lord's Test and picked up 2 and 3 wickets.
In the first innings, he added 88 runs for the sixth wicket with Joe Root (104) to help England post a total of 387 runs, and in the second innings, he dismissed Akash Deep (1), KL Rahul (40), and Jasprit Bumrah (5) to win the match for the home team.
The POTM award on Monday also helped Stokes become the first player in the world to win four POTM awards in Test matches played at Lord's.
Stokes has won 11 POTM awards for England in 114 Tests played so far. Only Joe Root (13) and Ian Botham (12) have won more POTM awards for the English team in the five-day format of the game than Stokes.
Most POTM awards for England in Tests
The overall record of winning the most POTM awards in Tests is in the name of former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. Kallis played a total of 166 Tests from 1995 to 2013 and won 23 POTM awards.

The Glorious Boredom Of Test Cricket

The Glorious Boredom Of Test Cricket Partha Sinha Jul 18, 2025, 20:38 IST IST The ongoing India-England series is a quiet resurrection of the classical form of the game There was a time, not too long ago, when cricket started to resemble a badly dubbed action film. Overloaded with explosions, starved of script. The game got faster, louder, and somehow emptier. In trying to make cricket more 'watchable', we quietly removed the cricket from cricket. T20 was the gateway drug. IPL was the overdose. What remained was a sport that dressed like cricket but talked like TikTok. Bollywood's mascara on baseball's pace. Everything became a number. Strike rates, economy rates, impact scores. If you couldn't clear the ropes every five balls, you were baggage. Bowlers were reduced to radar guns. And fielding? That became LinkedIn with turf burns. Dives done more for the CV than the scoreboard.

Olivia Smith becomes women's football's first £1m signing as Arsenal complete record transfer from Liverpool

The first £1m transfer in women's football has been completed with Arsenal completing the formalities to sign Canadian forward Olivia Smith from Liverpool. The European champions move to sign the 20-year-old, who has become the first to break the seven-figure barrier, eclipses the £900,000 that Chelsea paid to acquire American defender Naomi Girma from San Diego Wave in January. The first player in men's football to command a million-pound price tag was former England forward Trevor Francis when he moved from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest in 1979. But the figure seemed too far before Arsenal made the record signing. 'It's my dream to compete for the biggest titles here in England and in Europe and I'm excited to get started and contribute to doing that here with Arsenal,' Smith said in a statement. Smith who is known for her versatility had a wonderful time at Liverpool even though the club struggled last season. Capable of playing up front or in the wing, she netted nine goals to claim the club player of the season. Though Liverpool were not keen on the transfer, Arsenal eventually succeeded after placing a record bid, with which the Reds are looking to strengthen their squad after a seventh-place finish last season. Arsenal, bolstered by the Champions League title, are going strength-to-strength and their signing of Smith is seen as a clear signal to send a loud message that they want to dominate the league. Arsenal's director of women's football, Clare Wheatley, said: 'We're thrilled to bring Olivia to Arsenal. She's one of the most talented young players in the game and has huge potential for further development here.' Arsenal's faith in Smith isn't misplaced. After becoming the youngest to represent Canada at 15, Smith moved to Sporting Lisbon in 2023, where she scored 16 goals in 28 games. Post her success in Portugal, she moved to Liverpool before Arsenal set their sights on her. 'It's a privilege and an honor to sign for Arsenal. The atmosphere the supporters create at Emirates Stadium is incredible and I can't wait to have that behind me now,' she said. Apart from Smith, Arsenal which is the most decorated club in English women's football, have also signed winger Chloe Kelly from, Taylor Hinds and Anneke Borbe – all on free transfers ahead of the new season.
